Additional observations St. John Maron Church began in 1988 as a mission of Our Lady of Mt. Lebanon-St. Peter Los Angeles. It is part of the Maronite Catholic Eparchy (diocese) of Our Lady of Lebanon. It is under the authority of Bishop Robert Shaheen, who lives in St. Louis, Missouri, and is in communion with the Holy Father. The mission has since celebrated its liturgy at different locations since its founding; Father Bakh became administrator of the mission in 1989. It became a parish in 1999.
Father Bakh was a Physics student at of all places Berkely when the Lord called him to His Priesthood. He is very orthodox and a very loving priest.
God used the evil of the Arson’s fire to give the Maronites and even better location and Church building. Praise God and His Mother!
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
Kenneth M. Fisher
Wasn’t Danny Thomas from Lebanon and a Catholic? Was this the sort of church he and his family attended?
Yes, Maryanne, Danny Thomas was a Lebanese American and a Catholic. I’m not sure if he was of this rite. I believe he was Melkite Rite. There is a Melkite Catholic Church in either the San Fernando valley or San Gabriel valley, and I think that is the church he attened. I think the church is named St. Micheal’s, but I am not certain. There are also Chaldean Catholics in the middle east. Many of these rites are as old if not older than the Roman Rite.
FINALLY a church in which no one on this site is wailing and weeping about the lack of a TRIDENTINE MASS.
what a relief!
Max, enough of your hostility about The Mass of All Times it is very offensive.
De gustibus non est disputandum. (In matters of taste, there is no argument.)
Besides, The Maronite and Melkite rites do not have a history of using Latin in their Mass. So, no need for “wailing and weeping” as you say Max. They have a lovely Mass in Aramaic and or Arabic.
We are very proud of our heritage and our church. I urge you to come and visit our church. You are able to sample our mass by watching this video taken the Sunday we had our annual festival, or visit our Facebook page “stJohn maron church.
