Father Francis Stevenson, pastor of Corpus Christi church in Tahoe City, gave a 12-minute homily December 26 on our unhappiness with our families, including the story of Father’s father, who deserted his family when Father Stevenson was four years old.
Here are the words of the 15-second excerpt:
“And they will say because of certain problems – people, the family, marriage, men and women – it’s all bankrupt, it’s all bad. We need to get rid of it. I don’t know how you’re going to do that, but there are some people who would like to change species.”
I don’t see how that’s a homily if its not during Mass. This 15 second clip feature is dumb.
I’m sorry but this is idiotic. First of all, it’s not a homily. It’s a rant in the middle of a (beautiful) country road. Second of all, who can say something worthwhile in a 15 sescond soundbight – and do we really trust the editors to sift through the hours it would take to find them? Thirdly, the content. He makes a straw man argument that people want to get rid of marriage or family. Nobody that I know of wants to get rid of the concept and practices of marriage and family. In the end, this 15 second homily, at least, is nothing more than a rant by an angry man shaking his fist at the sky for things that don’t exist here on earth.
Of course there is an agenda to destroy the family by the forces of evil, Satan, and all those who want to “redefine” natural marriage between one man and one woman to include unnatural arrangements like men and men and woman and woman which is contrary to the Natural Law. It is destined for failure because it is an abomination before God and it is destructive to any children who might be unfortunately a part of this disordered arrangement.
My friends: watch the entire homily on YouTube. It is a beautiful homily rich in insight about living the Catholic Christian life in the modern world. Fr. Stevenson is a wise and humble priest who is a dedicated servant to Christ and his Church.
