The interior of Christ Cathedral has once again been transformed in appearance as construction continues. Nearly 60 construction crewmembers are working in the space each day. Here’s what’s going on now.
– Massive scaffolding has been erected on the east, west and south balconies
– Cleaning and painting of the space frame at the east balcony is now underway
– Structural demolition is 95 percent complete
– The worship-level floor strengthening is almost finished
– The undercroft plumbing lines and structural beam work is in process
Following all of this, the uni-struts will be attached to the framing and the quatrefoils installed. Next up will be the installation of the lighting, sound equipment, fire sprinklers and mechanical equipment. The scaffolding will be in place into early next year.
From Orange County Catholic.
Wacky project, brought about by a wacky bishop, who lived in lala land regarding his grasp of economics and the mission of the Church. Catholic People, this is a Protestant monstrosity, and cannot be remade as a Catholic church. In any event, the artist renderings show a building that is, at best, a sort of “Protestant-Catholic” Church. But, hey, studies of Catholics today show very little difference in their understanding of differences between the faith of Martin Luther, and Catholicism.
The Vatican II heretics have largely won, erasing the grand and glorious institutional Church started by Christ. But, not quite . . .
The millions spent on this renovation is contrary to the values of the Gospel. Think of what those millions could do for the poor, addicted, homeless people living on the streets of OC.
Meanwhile, Our Lord is relegated off to some side chapel while “Centering Prayer” is being taught! Please do not donate to this never-ending money pit! Too ashamed to place our Lord in the most prominent position but never too ashamed to ask the laity for money to enable the mistreatment of the Source and Summit of our faith.

Catherine,
Please note that the link in your commentary is for a church in Tennessee: not California.
And it’s an Episcopalian church to boot!
Covfefe,
I neglected to mention that. Thank you for the clarification. :)
The Danger of Centering Prayer
“Centering prayer is essentially a form of self-hypnosis. It makes use of a “mantra,” a word repeated over and over to focus the mind while striving by one’s will to go deep within oneself. The effects are a hypnotic-like state: concentration upon one thing, disengagement from other stimuli, a high degree of openness to suggestion, a psychological and physiological condition that externally resembles sleep but in which consciousness is interiorized and the mind subject to suggestion.”

My God…
Isn’t this project done yet? The diocese got a magnificent deal on a magnificent campus. Rather than simply restore the Chrystal Cathedral (an award winning design), they had to completely redo it on the inside. To put their thumbprint on it at great expense an ruination of a great design.
