Please note the response from the story’s subject at the bottom of this text.
The following comes from a late Sept. email from a Calif. Catholic reader.
Very interesting given the sensational subject, the level of documentation, the close-to-home setting, and the rawness of the scandal.
You are familiar with the $60million+ Crystal Cathedral that the Catholic diocese of Orange has purchased and is refurbishing to be the new diocesan cathedral.
In this official video from the diocese on the “catholicizing” of the cathedral, at 1:35, communications director Ryan Lilyengren says: “We see ourselves as a center point for many faiths to come together and engage.”
This is Ryan Lilyengren’s Facebook page.
In his Likes, you can see that he is a fan of Obama’s Organizing for America, as well as Huntington Beach #380 F. & A.M. – Masonry. This is the Masonic Lodge in Huntington Beach.
Indeed, in photos on the Lodge’s Facebook page, you will find multiple photos of Catholic diocese of Orange communications director, Ryan Lilyengren, celebrating his induction into various Masonic orders. Ryan has even “Liked” these photos, with captions such as “Congratulation to Brother Ryan Lilyengren, our newest Master Mason!”
The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith issued a clarification explicitly affirming that Canon 1374’s prohibitions apply to Masonic organizations: “The Church’s negative judgment in regard to Masonic association remains unchanged since their principles have always been considered irreconcilable with the doctrine of the Church and therefore membership in them remains forbidden.
“The faithful who enroll in Masonic associations are in a state of grave sin and may not receive Holy Communion. It is not within the competence of local ecclesiastical authorities to give a judgment on the nature of Masonic associations which would imply a derogation from what has been decided above.”
The following email was received by California Catholic yesterday, Oct. 8.
The reader of Cal Catholic who sent the news tip notes, “Ryan ‘Liked’ the Masonic Lodge and the Freemasons on Facebook as of last week when I sent you that email. He has apparently un-Liked them on his Facebook now.”

I want to assure you that this is indeed not the case. For a brief time, years ago, when I was a practicing member of the Presbyterian faith community I was indeed a part of this group. I no longer am a member.Since that time I have been welcomed into the Catholic faith and have dedicated my life to sharing the immense love of Christ with the world. I can assure you that I am dedicated to living and upholding the Magisterium of the Catholic Church.I trust that you will reach out to verify the accuracy information concerning me personally and our diocese in the future. In Christ,Ryan Lilyengren, APR, MADirector of CommunicationsOffice: 714-282-3075Mobile: 714-305-5413– –Together we Journey, Together in Faith
My, my, my, the bishop of Orange does it again….
Earlier this year, the bishop appointed a person who works for a pro-abortion, pro-SSM assemblywoman who, of course, is a Democrat. (Checking the diocesan site and the announcement, which states the politician name, has mysteriously disappeared.)
Wonder when the bishop will schedule the Da Vinci Code to been seen on the grass at the new cathedral?
Bishop Kevin Vann installed as Bishop of Orange in December 2012, is not as bad as former Diocese Bishop Tod Brown.
The Crystal Cathedral was purchased by the Orange Diocese on Feb. 3, 2012 – by the previous Bishop.
I have no problem with the truth, but it is most helpful if people are accurate about which Bishop they are discussing.
(Dates can be found on wiki regarding most Bishops and when they took office of a particular Diocese or on the Diocese web site..)
In the new renderings of the Crystal Cathedral –
1. Where is the Tabernacle which is required to be placed in a most worthy place with the greatest honor ( CCC 1183) ?
2. Where is the Sacred Art ?
Dave, why do you keep beating this horse. More than once, it has been pointed out to you that the tabernacle is a most conspicuous location behind and above the cathedra. It is a beautiful Tabernacle and in a lovely, prayerful chapel open to any one. Watch the video. The art will come, as the chapels are completed. Watch the video. Remember that nothing in a Catholic church is supposed to take away from the centrality of the altar. Catholic “rules” also state that the Tabernacle should not be on or behind the altar in churches that are, for lack of a better word, tourist attraction or that are used often for non liturgical events. St. Peter’s in Rome is a good example.
Bob One, you are far too mean to Dave– he sounds like a good, sincere Catholic! Don’t try to justify a non-Catholic “cathedral,” forced on us by Church leaders who do not care much about our True Faith, and cause good Catholics to suffer so greatly! I agree with Sue Zappa’s comments. Good, sincere Catholics, and their families– suffer terribly! Many of our modern churches are a TOTAL FARCE!! Nothing but false, political, “ecumenical” nightmares! And they do NOT inspire authentic Catholic worship of God! They are for modern “ecumenical politics,” and for “politics of dialogue and compromise with the modern, unbelieving world.” In other words– these churches are really NOT FOR WORSHIP, FOR TRUE, BELIEVING CATHOLICS!! Yet– it is the poor, believing, tithing Catholics— (NOT heretical Church leaders!)– who pay for these false churches!
The tabernacle should always be in the centre for all to see. If the Tabernacle is not in the centre of the main part of the Church, then that takes away the central dogma of Jesus being the centre of the Catholic Church.
Yes, removing the Holy Eucharist to a side chapel was made the norm during Vatican Council II. What is so unnerving about it is that the Altar kind of sucks. The Altar is a sacramental and has no importance other than it being a stupid table. The lively part of the Mass is the Eucharist– not the Liturgy of the Word, which is kind of weak depending upon the translation and dilution of the “Word” from idiom to idiom. The “Word” was made flesh and dwelled among us making the Eucharist the ONLY focal point of the Mass. For those who argue the importance of the Altar, I would like to know what that importance is about. It is an inanimate object that cannot convey life. Yes, the Eucharist is the focal point of the Mass and of Christian living. Saint Peter’s is pretty much an architectural joke built on virulent vanity and worthy of hell itself. Jesus Christ was born in a stable. I am pretty sure His place would be with His flock and not on a table that glorifies Euro-Centric racism. #TheCatholicFaithIsAllAboutTheEucharist
“Bob One”: You, like all Liberals, make an argument, and then say “we are done; debate over”. The most recent pronouncement like this in the Church came from apostate Cardinal Chuckles-Bravo Dolan, when asked about application of Canon 915 to pro-abortion politicians. No, Bob One, and No, Cardinal Dolan, the debate is not over (and the “beating of the horse” continues) regarding application of the True Faith.
You are not believers, and expect the rest of Catholics trying to assert their Faith to be lead like sheep into whatever crazy pen of ideas you assert. Sorry, that approach will not work anymore. No demands by clergy for “obedience” will quiet the growing demand that those within the Church live by its principles and doctrines.
Of course, this expectation is why we have things like the Synod, so nutty professor theologians, like Cardinal Kasper, can give us the Looney-Tunes version of how the Church is supposed to act after centuries of believing in a different way.
Who does the Church turn to next — Professor Irwin Corey?
I’m surprised that the comment by Robert Hidalgo oct 9 at 1:18 AM didn’t spark more discussion. I think you miss a couple of important things that make the altar not just “a sacramental and no imporance other than being a stupid table”.
The altar is the altar of sacrifice. Just as the cross was the altar of sacrifice during the passion, the altars in our churches are the place where the unbloody sacrifice of Calvary is made real for Jesus’ followers.
The altar is an altar of remembrance. All catholic altars have within them a fragment from a saint, symbolizing that our Church is Apolostic and built on our ancestors. It is a rememberance and recognition that the earliest Christians were persecuted for their faith, and so the People of God met in the underground catacombs and celebrated the Sacrifice on the graves of their beloved, who had faith that the tomb could not contain them, but they believed in eternal life.
The altar is a table of nourishment. Let all who are hungry eat and all who are thirsty drink.
It has always been the case in the great churches for the Blessed Sacrament to be in a separate chapel – that is true of all the major basilicas of Rome including the Pope’s own cathedral church of Saint John Lateran, as well as St. Peter’s whose design with a Blessed Sacrament chapel in a side transept is based on the original fourth century configuration.. Thus the practice was followed in the United States. In St. Patrick’s cathedral, the Blessed Sacrament in reserved in the apse chapel of Our Lady behind the High Altar. Only after the Council of Trent did the Blessed Sacrament begin to be placed at the altar, beginning in England at the instruction of Cardinal Pole. Before that it was not uncommon for the Blessed Sacrament to be suspended from the ceiling in a hanging Pxy usually in a side chapel.
Bob One- you are wrong.
We don’t worship the Altar. That would be idolatry.
We worship God/Jesus who is in the Tabernacle.
CCC: ” 1183 The tabernacle is to be situated in churches in a most worthy place with the greatest honor.
The dignity, placing, and security of the Eucharistic tabernacle should foster adoration before the Lord really present in the Blessed Sacrament of the altar. ”
When the Tabernacle is removed, people act before and after Mass like they are in a ball park- noisey, disrespectful; and dress disrespectfully as well.
Most people never go to other rooms to see the Tabernacle.
When you go to visit someone, do you expect to sit in their living room, while that person is out on the front porch?
This is the analogy used by Mother Angelica.
Read the CCC words above again.
Shuffling the Tabernacle off to the side
or out of site is NOT “in a most worthy place with the greatest honor”,
nor does it “foster adoration before the Lord really present in the Blessed Sacrament of the altar.”
When plans are being made for a new or newly renovated Church always ask the people in charge –
1) Where is the Tabernacle;
2) Where is the Sacred Art ?
These must be part of the plans.
Ask the Bishop if the Parish Priest can not answer you.
(And go armed with the CCC.)+
Don’t you think that if the authors of the documents meant for us to put the Tabernacle “in the center” or “on the altar” that they would have been articulate enough to say EXACTLY THAT? Instead, they chose other words, to indicate that in some churches, maybe most, the tabernacle deserves a place of honor that will be a place of adoration of the Presence of Christ, rather than a place of artisitic admiration. Please do read the CCC and other Church Documents, and please do not read into them things that are not there.
That is so true, Linda Marie! It is always the traditional, faithful Catholics who donate all the money and time to the Church…and have to put up with architecture that is not in keeping with the faith at all…some of them, like the monstrosity in Oakland, and the Nazi bunker in LA are an affront to anyone who cares about beauty, harmony and eternal things.
Earlier this year is still 2014, which is Bishop Vann, of course.
Has it occurred to anyone that he might not actually be Catholic in the first place and therefore not be subject to the same rules as Catholics are?
Jane anyone who is not Catholic can not speak for a Bishop in the ommunications department of a Diocese.
If is my opinion that non-catholics should all work for Churches or organizations of their own beliefs.
Anything else is hypocritical, since they would be expected to support something they do not believe in.
.
Janice missed Jane’s humor.
“Has it occurred to anyone” that Masonry is inherently evil and that supporters of evil do not enter the Kingdom of Heaven? Catholics and non-Catholics alike are subject to the same rules, ultimately.
Any Catholic who joins the MASONS is automatically excommunicated.
The MASONS try to keep their true goals and membership secret and out of the public realm of information.
It should be no surprise that some join the Catholic Church with the goal of destroying it.
In fact, Saul Alinsky, author of “Rules for Radicals” recommends this.
https://www.crossroad.to/Quotes/communism/alinsky.htm
Someone needs to report to Bishop Vann that his communications director Ryan Lilyengren is a MASON,
and supports “Huntington Beach #380 F. & A.M. – Masonry”.
Lilyengren needs to be fired.
Let him find a job within his own Mason organization not the Catholic Church.
I hope I am wrong, but I am afraid you would be wasting your breath complaining to Bishop Vann!
God bless, yours in Their Hearts!
May God have mercy on an amoral Amerika!

“Bob” is correct. The history of the Orange, CA Diocese is one that is consistent with the “New Church” where being Catholic is not really much different than belonging to the local Lion’s Club (or Rotary or any of the others). Even apostate groups like the Masons are OK if we “feel good” and have a “good conscience” about it, and still “love everybody”. Doctrine enforcement is “judgmental” too, so none of that. How much does anyone bet that nothing, nothing is ever told to Mr. Lilyengren, particularly the part about not receiving communion. In fact, as virtually no Catholic bishop enforces Canon 915, it is likely that Mr. Lilyengren will continue to take communion, as long as his conscience is pure about it. And, of course, another knee-slapper is the comment from Lilyengren about the CC being where “many faiths come together”. You see, the Catholic “Faith” is now becoming a sort of polyglot, where everyone has a place, no matter what they believe. Just take a look at the absolutely insane coat of arms of Abp. Kim (Kuala Lumpur) which includes symbols of each religion on a truly ecumenical “Tree of All Religions”; Mr. Lilyengren would feel right at home in Malaysia. In fact, that has been the intent for the CC all the time — not to create a “Catholic” place of worship, but to house an ecumenical “Eucharistic hall” where everyone, no matter what, can be happy and accepted (as long as they are not “Triumphalists” or anything that excludes anyone). Who knows, perhaps soon, all can simply come in off the street and receive communion, no belief needed. The crazy direction of the Vatican is simply to throw away the Faith, at least the Faith that requires discipline, sacrifice, and humility. Yup, rest easy Mr. Lilyengren, no one in the Church cares what you do.
St Christopher. Sometimes your posts are difficult to read because you do not hit the return (enter) key at the end of a paragraph.
For the interested – here is a link showing “absolutely insane coat of arms of Abp. Kim (Kuala Lumpur) which includes symbols of each religion on a truly ecumenical “Tree of All Religions”;

To see the Bishop’s Coat of Arms one will need to zoom in.
Apparently this Bishop thinks he can teach all religions.
Ahhh, technology!
This Bishop putting the Tree of all Religions in his coat of arms is the latest appointment by Pope Francis.

After all, just pick from the Tree of all Religions whatever Faith rocks the divine within you, dude. :(
A wolf in the sheep. Where is the shepherd?
He may not know. It is the responsibility of Catholics to keep Diocese Bishops informed, since they are not mind-readers.
CCC: 907 “In accord with the knowledge, competence, and preeminence which they possess, [lay people] have the right and even at times a duty
to manifest to the sacred pastors their opinion on matters which pertain to the good of the Church,
and they have a right to make their opinion known to the other Christian faithful,
with due regard to the integrity of faith and morals and reverence toward their pastors, and with consideration for the common good and the dignity of persons.”
well Yeah! and who’s going to do anything about it.
Here is a quarter, call Francis and see if he cares.
The canon that is cited applies mostly to Masonry in Europe which is heavily anti-Catholic. It does not apply to “blue lodge” masonry in the United States.
Yeah Steve…And which “American” lodge do you belong to?
In 2006, the Vatican upheld the formal excommunications by Bishop Bruskewitz. with support from Bishop Vasa of all those joining:
Call to Action, Planned Parenthood, Hemlock Society, Freemasons, Job’s Daughters, DeMolay, Eastern Star, Rainbow Girls and Catholics for a Free Choice.
The Bishop stated: “Catholics who wish to return to full communion with the church must repudiate their membership in the groups by sending a letter to the organization and having their names removed from any rosters or mailing lists. Then they can seek out the sacrament of reconciliation, where their priests can guide them in confession and penance. “
I must admit confusion regarding the Masons, as it was never discussed in any Catechism I ever encountered, and I only heard of the prohibition from the ‘news’ papers a few years ago.
Q – Is it possible for a Mason to renounce and repent (even if they did not know it was wrong at the time) joining a lodge and then confessing and asking absolution after learning about the prohibition and leaving the Masons?
I know of several who wanted to – and may have tried – but does it work, or are you ‘once in -never out’?
Michael,
In the true Catholic Church, there is no sin that cannot be forgiven other than the sin against the Holy Ghost!

Yes, Freemasonry has been prohibited and stated as such in all the Catholic Catechisms. Yes, a Mason can repent. Here’s how: Go to Confession and tell of your association that may harm Jesus’s work of salvation in the world. Promise to avoid it and not do it again. You do not have to tell about initiations, or any Freemasonic business. Confession is not about that. Confession is about restoring the grace of Christ to you. And then, just stop attending Masonic everything. You may want to inform the Freemason lodge that you wish to cease your membership. You do not have to be mean about it. They are human beings as well. They do good work in the world, but the reasons for it are to destroy Jesus Christ’s work of salvation in and for the world. I am sure the Freemasonic lodge understands this. Just stop; let God do the rest. :D

Where actually did you come up with this? In a word it’s false.
I am not from California, I am from Michigan but I want to say things in the church are no different anywhere else in the country. The “Catholic Church” is not “one faith” or “one form of worship” any longer, people change Catholic parishes as much as they do different faiths, simply because each parish IS a different faith. As a person who has experienced the pre and post Vatican II church I can clearly see how the (suspected mason) who was in charge of the reworking of the Sacred Liturgy did accomplish his goal of protestantizing the church, and has totally destroyed whatever unity she once had, and our hierarchy has no clue as to how to bring her back together, a task not all that difficult if discipline is used. There are simply too many “options” in the church in the post Vatican II era, where as in the pre-Vatican II there was one way to do things and we could go to any parish and have a common experience, “church hopping” became popular in the late 1960’s. and early 1070’s, so keep hopping until you find what you like, just be willing to travel to get it, if what you like is good old fashioned Catholicism.
Being formerly from MI myself, I can tell you MI is much worse than many, but not all other States.
Deardon (a buddy of Cardinal Bernardin) and heretic Gumbleton, and the LCWR nuns did more damage than you can imagine.
In fact the heretical “Call to Action” was started in MI in the mid-70s, and Gumbleton (retired) is the only Bishop who supports it.
As others have said, read your Bible and CCC, because you sure don’t get the truth from all Bishops and all Priests.
I don’t think all the Priests are bad, but they did have terrible formation in their seminaries.
I can’t remember who said it, but they wrote of how there were the most demons around monasteries and seminaries because that is where the most need to fight goodness was. There are some really strong Catholic voices in Michigan…Michael Voris, the Dominican Sisters of Mary in Ann Arbor, Ava Maria radio (where Ava Maria Univ. started) Fr. Larry Richards, Steve Ray, Al Kresta and so many more! Of course there’s going to be strong opposition to anything that threatens the cozy relationship of satan to the secular world.
if you have kids grandkids take them to do the first five saturdays before the world turns their heads.
Ryan needs to be fired immediately!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don’t think he’s Catholic.
All the more reason to fire – Ryan Lilyengren.
It is a small world. Stephen Brady of Roman Catholic Faithful brought clear evidence (of the internal corruption and sexual abuse that was being committed by then Bishop Daniel Ryan as well as the names of other openly homosexual clergy) to his (then pastor) Father Kevin Vann. Nothing was ever done. Father Kevin Vann was soon rewarded for his silence. There was a sudden fast track promotion to a monsignor and then a bishop in Texas and then here. Google RCF Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam Bishop Daniel Ryan
Bishop Kevin Vann cannot remain silent about the communication director for the diocese belonging to anti-Catholic organization that plots against the Church. This is as OUTRAGEOUSLY CORRUPT & SCANDALOUS as Father Rod Stephens being permitted to be the Director of Liturgy and Evangelization while he was openly living with his homosexual partner.

BISHOP LUCAS HELD RECEPTION AT MASONIC TEMPLE
Freemasonry is the Mother of Modern Apostasy, said Pope St. Pius X
By Michael Chapman
This article was first published in Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam, Winter 2001/2002, The Roman Catholic Faithful, http://www.rcf.org.
https://noticetheravens.blogspot.com/2006/08/bishop-lucas-held-reception-at-masonic.html
‘In 1996, Bp. Fabian Bruskewitz, Diocese of Lincoln, Neb., advised all Catholics who belonged to the Masons or other anti-Catholic groups to quit those organizations. Otherwise, said Bp. Bruskewitz, they would face “interdict,” which would bar them from Holy Communion. Bp. Bruskewitz also noted that Catholics could be excommunicated for membership in the Masons, as well as in Planned Parenthood, Call to Action, and Catholics for a Free Choice. At least six bishops and about 5,000 priests and nuns are members of Call to Action, reports Newsday. The Masonic Information Center in Silver Spring, MD, has said that “thousands” of Masons are Catholics. The Knights of Columbus in Lincoln have worked with Masons over the years on a variety of joint events, according to Newsday.
983 Code of Canon Law, Canon 1374, says: “A person who joins an association which plots against the Church is to be punished with a just penalty; one who promotes or takes office in such an association is to be punished with an interdict.”
What if your mission in life was to show others the joy of knowing Jesus Christ?
What if your mission was to tell people that all their mistakes can be forgiven, even the mean ones that they did on purpose?
What if your mission was to be so sweet and so decent and so innocent that all were attracted to Jesus by knowing you?
What if your mission was to model God’s love and His forgetfulness of our sins?
The link is close. Now what bishop Vann?
I prayed that the Orange County Diocese would lose out in the bidding for the Crystal Cathedral but unfortunately my prayers were not answered. In my opinion, buying the Crystal Cathedral is a capitulation to Protestantism! As a Catholic Cathedral it’s a subversion of our great Catholic traditions! There’s one more serious complaint I have about this Diocese; the pro-life activities are virtually dormant and in desperate need of revival. Where is the prolife leadership??? Writers for Life at prolifedigest.com.
Please look at 4:12 until 4:16 into the above link for the official video of “catholiicizing” of the Cathedral. The video gives the impression that there will not be kneelers. Will kneelers be installed later?
This is very important to know because if there are not going to be any kneelers then the Masons will once again be congratulating Master Mason Lilyengren for working on the “de-cathollicizing” of another Catholic Church.
Douay-Rheims Bible
Hosea 4:6 My people have been silent, because they had no knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will reject thee, that thou shalt not do the office of priesthood to me: and thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I also will forget thy children.
More proof that the modern Catholic Church is a shell of it’s former self!
I guess word got back to Ryan, he’s blocking public viewing of his facebook page
Aww that’s too bad. You all were enjoying talking behind his back and making him out to be the devil incarnate, weren’t you?
When information is publicly displayed, then it’s free game and isn’t this what we should always expect of our bishops and the people he surrounds himself with?
I’m not sure of other people’s experiences, but this bishop doesn’t even have the courtesy of answering his emails.
And when an announcement of a politician’s assistant to one of the bishop’s committees goes “missing,” it naturally makes one wonder.
Anonymous coward,
You will not agree, but a Mason working within the Catholic Church may very well be a devil incarnate!
God bless, yours in Their Hearts!
May God have mercy on an amoral Amerika!

Ah, anonymous…still at work I see. Writing a post that can be read by many people is hardly talking talking behind someone’s back. Jesus did say however, that he who is not for me is against me…if someone is pretending to be one thing that is diametrically opposed to another thing, that certainly isn’t being Christlike, is it? Sometimes we simply need to follow the direction of our thoughts and arguments to their conclusion. What is gossip? What consititutes being ‘devil incarnate’?
This is absolutely outrageous that a “Master Mason” (per the Mason website link, assuming that is correct) is the Communications Director for a Roman Catholic Diocese! What, oh, what, is happening in our Church?! It is like we have all gone crazy and no longer can differentiate between good and bad, right and wrong…instead we get excuses, or get made to feel that we who open our mouths and cry out are somehow “mean spirited” in pointing out grievous error such as that illumined by this article…
And here this story appears on October 7, the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. May Our Blessed Mother, who crushes all heresy and exposes all error, crush the head of the filthy serpent who seeks to destroy the Roman Catholic Church! Pray the Rosary and come to know what Truth is in your hearts. Sr. Lucia of Fatima, time and again, repeated Blessed Mother’s admonition to “pray the Rosary”…it is our personal safeguard against the “diabolical disorientation” that has infiltrated the Church. We need the help of the Holy Spirit to see clearly in these dark times where some have turned away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and demonic instructions, through the hypocrisy of liars with branded consciences (1 Tim. 4:1-2)…
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us! Sorrowful & Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us!
With Vatican II much of the teachings or input from Masonry has infiltrated the church. Indeed, the entire push for “modernism” stems from the Masons and their “associates” in the Vatican.
So now what? Will the Bishop have the courage to correct this “over site”. Or, is he part of the problem and continue what is happening in many Dioceses of the church throughout the world.
Remember what happened at Fatima when when Hindus were allowed to have a “religious” ceremony around the alter at Fatima.
Some priests speak out about there not being a Hell. Certainly purgatory is out. Oh! but wait…there,s more… Vatican II has taught us that truth itself can change with the times. Oh please! even Truth is not sacred anymore. When will Catholics speak out against the modernization of the Church. Let’s see…when is the last time you have heard a homily on sin at your parish?
I can see why the Crystal Palace is going to be a place where ecumenism will be celebrated in a cum-by- ya fashion….that’s because Catholics may stop putting money in the coffers and go somewhere else that is Roman Catholic.

With this Jesuit as pope nothing will be done. The modernist conquest of the church is complete. The faithful will do nothing either, and we all know it
I checked the photos of the Huntington Beach mason chapter and found the above picture from the year 2010. I guess Ryan has had an amazing and fast conversion since then(wink, wink) would like to know the date he entered the church when he was hired and when he left the masons. All to fast in my opinion. Entering the Church is usually a two year program which means he has been practicing the faith for two years or less.
Also checked Ryans past employment on linkend and found he worked as director of media relations and communications in the Orange Diocese for 6 years from April 2005 to 2011 before he left for Kaiser Permenente. He is back on the job with the diocese for the last year and seven months, he is also the executive director of the Orange County Catholic newspaper. So he was working in the diocese as a Mason for many years and only recently converted and left the masons organization.
To knowingly bring him back to the diocese doesn’t reflect well on judgment of the current bishop. During his first stint, Lilyengren spent most of his time playing the cover-up game, defending priests like Monsignor John Urell, who instead of investigating claims of sexual abuse chose to chastise those who were reporting it for making waves.
False charity and false ecumenism has been used for many years to undermine Church teaching to the detriment of many souls. This is a current example. How “joyful” must the Diocese of Orange be when they “energetically” pay a nice salary to practicing Master Mason Lilyngren to be the Director of Communications for the Catholic Diocese of Orange? How can it be considered “loving” to help someone lose their soul by energetically handing over a nice big paycheck to a person who swears loyalty to an organization that has secretly sworn to be an enemy of the Catholic Church?
We realize that Mr. Lilygren is not a priest but this is a very influential position in the Diocese. Isn’t that like the chief priests paying another type of Judas a nice salary, (on top of the thirty pieces of silver already sworn to be paid by the Masons ) for being the Director of Communications for the diocese while Mr. Lilygren belongs to this organization that secretly plots to work against the Catholic Church? Would the Apostles have wanted Judas to be their Director of Communications if Judas would have posted a Facebook photo of himself being congratulated for collecting the thirty pieces of silver on a public forum? Who is caring about Mr. Lilygren’s soul? Certainly now Ryan Lilygren MUST be removed or the diocese of Orange is energetically complicit in his actions.
A public apology is in order from the Diocese of Orange since Mr. Lilygren publicly posted his affiliation with this organization that has secretly sworn to work to destroy the Catholic Church. This is another example of diabolical disorientation “establishing a relationship with the smoke of satan.”
Meanwhile, faithful priests like Father Guarnizo and Father Michael Rodriguez are removed and treated “SOURLY” by their diocese for simply remaining faithful to “all” of the teachings of the Catholic Church. These priests have also chosen the better part!
… one priest I know was gotten rid of by his Bishop by being sent to serve the soldiers in Iraq. This was precisely the grace that led this priest to discover Tradition and seek to understand ‘why’ there is such a disconnect in diocesan practice vs Church teaching.
What a grace it was to be sent into a ‘war-zone’. But Father came back with a very clear understanding that the real war was right here in the Church. I thank God Father survived his SOUR treatment and is now working to build up the Church!
Actually – Sometimes all ‘we’ need is Plain Talk from our Leaders, in a vernacular that makes the point clear – even if one does not speak ‘church talk’ very well.
My Grandfather (moms side) was a Mason, and when one of his Great Grandchildren (not mine) had a serious medical issue that no one could afford to get help for, he got his Great Grandchild in to the Shriner’s Hospital Program – and it made a world of difference in the life of the child.
I am not suggesting that works of Mercy can absolve anyone; and acknowledge that it is by God’s Grace Alone and not anything (save Faith) on our part, that we May be Saved…
But I have always had a special place for the admonition of James 2:14-16, where he says “What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds?”
Still working that one out for myself – insights are welcome.
Michael, this is a great post compared to almost all of your others. I think that what made this one good is the plain talk. It wasn’t full of made up words, derogatory name calling, turning every subject into some specific definition of gay behavior. It was straight talk and seemed to come from someone who could, if he wanted, sound sincere instead of braggadocio Thanks.
Agreed.
Michael McDermott,
My aunt (my father’s sister) belonged to Masonic organizations. She had one son who I have written about on CCD. This is my cousin who died from AIDS. My aunt sounds like you grandfather in her many good deeds.. When my father met my mother and converted to Catholicism my aunt was very angry. She tried to talk my father out of marrying my mother and it was not because she did not like my mother, it was because my mother was Catholic. My aunt later divorced her husband and she never had my cousin baptized in any faith. My aunt was constantly helping others but I believe her interior hostility toward Catholicism was undeniable. So while she might have been giving of her time to help others, there was always this very strong sense of her underlying disdain for Catholicism. . My aunt never belittled our faith to us because she knew that my father and mother would hold her accountable and my aunt loved my dad and did not want to lose contact so she kept quiet but we knew the disdain was there. When my cousin was seven years old my aunt allowed the mailman to take my cousin for weekend trips. My aunt thought it would be good for my cousin to have a male influence on her son because his father rarely visited my cousin. My father pleaded with his sister to not let my cousin go for weekends with this mailman but my aunt did not listen and continued to let my cousin go with this mailman for weekends. Years later it was revealed that my cousin was molested by the mailman and my father was very angry that his sister had refused to listen to his warnings. My aunt had convinced herself that a lurking evil looked like a good and my cousin paid the price for her blindness.

I have written about my cousin’s repentance and baptism but I have not shared about his mother (my aunt’s) final days. She was dying of cancer and she knew that our relative was a Catholic priest. My aunt loved us and she always went out of her way to show all of us very kind acts. Our family members tried to see if she would let a priest come and talk with her and she refused because that disdain for Catholicism was still there right up until her last day on earth. The day before she died we visited her and this is when our family asked her if she would like to have a priest come to see her and she flatly said “No.” But guess what happened Michael? The minute after my aunt said no, there was a knock on her door and it was her current mailman and she told us to let him in so that she could spend some time to say goodbye to him. Imagine turning down the graces from a Catholic priest at the hour of your death while then inviting in the mailman. The fact that she was once again letting another mailman distract her did not go unnoticed by those who were there. It reminded us of how she previously ignored my father at a very crucial time too. She didn’t listen to my father and my cousin was molested by a mailman and now she was letting another mailman distract her from preparing herself moments before she was about to face God.

Michael you brought up good deeds and my aunt’s were too numerous to count. I believe that there was a planted seed of hatred towards Catholicism and I believe that her utter disdain of Catholicism was fostered and fueled by her close affiliation with Masonic organizations.
My aunt had a Catholic neighbor and this neighbor prayed the daily rosary for the conversion of my cousin. As I have written before this is my cousin who repented and was baptized three months before he died of AIDS. Right as my cousin was dying he opened his eyes and looked up and said. “Who is the beautiful lady?”
So Michael McDermott when you write “I am not suggesting that works of Mercy can absolve anyone; and acknowledge that it is by God’s Grace Alone and not anything (save Faith) on our part, that we May be Saved…” I think I understand what you are saying. We do want all of our loved ones to share eternal life, especially when we are aware of their many good deeds. My aunt who was a member of Masonic organizations said no to receiving those necessary graces from a Catholic priest right up until her death. My cousin who had no affiliation with the Masons responded to the graces that were offered and he cooperated with those graces and he sincerely repented for his sins while choosing to be baptized 3 months before he died. Sacred Scripture tells us that “many are called but few are chosen”… perhaps because only a few choose to actually respond and cooperate with those generously offered graces.
WOW! Thank you for this posting, Catherine.
“…perhaps because only a few choose to actually respond and cooperate with those generously offered graces.”
This is very true. Our Lord is so very merciful, but never takes back His gift of free will.
God bless
Anyone can do good some works, no matter what their other beliefs are.
Good works all by themselves will not get someone to Heaven.
FreeMasons at their higher Master levels even keep organizational secrets from their own lower level members.
They do not believe in Jesus Christ (or the Bible).
They believe in the “great Architect”.

Catholics may NOT belong to the Masons (aka FreeMasons) under any circumstances.

What good is it if a man has good deeds, but no Faith ?
For starters, I would recommend the following, all of which I have read: PROOFS OF A CONSPIRACY, John Robison (1798); MASONRY UNMASKED: AN INSIDER REVEALS THE SECRETS OF THE LODGE, John Salza (2006); SECRET SOCIETIES AND SUBVERSIVE MOVEMENTS, Nesta H. Webster (1924); ILLUSTRATIONS OF MASONRY, Capt. Wm. Morgan (1827); BEHIND
THE LODGE DOOR, Paul A. Fisher (1994); CHRISTIANITY AND AMERICAN FREEMASONRY, William Whalen (1958); SECRET SOCIETIES AND THE KINGSHIP OF CHRIST, Rev. Denis Fahey (1927); FREEMASONRY: MANKIND’S HIDDEN ENEMY, Bro. Charles Madden (1995); NEW WORLD ORDER: THE ANCIENT PLAN OF SECRET SOCIETIES, William T. Still (1990); GRAND ORIENT FREEMASONRY UNMASKED, Msg. George E. Dillon (1885); HUMANUM GENUS, Pope Leo XIII (1884).
Did anyone read the article and then read the letter from the accused, who said that he left the Masons when he converted to Catholicism. With that letter, the article should have been removed from the site, lest it create all of the hatred that it did.
Bob One,
There is that word hate again. Bob One, You were never accused of hating Cardinal Burke even when you have taken every opportunity to attack him and make fun of him for wearing traditional vestments or criticize him for upholding Church teaching in a manner that does not suit you. You initially made it clear from your very early postings on CCD that you are always more interested in anything that spells watered down Catholicism. On one hand you claim to care about the poor while you still applaud the wasteful $30,000 dollars a year that it will cost to wash the windows of the great real estate deal that is “masquerading as a Cathedral” This pleases you because it is a much larger venue to water down the traditions and teachings of the Church. Perhaps partial birth abortion advocate Loretta Sanchez will be invited back to speak like she was invited to speak at St. Callistus with the approval of an auxiliary bishop sitting and smiling right next to her. No wonder you don’t find it alarming that Mr. Lilygren is the Communications Director.
Our Legion of Mary instructor taught us that the Catholic Church used to wait many many years before a convert was given any type of position of authority or influence. It might make you feel nice inside to undermine Cardinal Burke while selectively accusing others of hate but you are wrong. No one hates anyone but it is more than obvious that you dislike the TRUTH. You are certainly a jack of -all -trades of comments about watered down sounding philosophies but an ace of none that remotely resemble the clarity or solid teachings of the Catholic Church.
Catherine, the word “hate” might be a bit over the top, but it doesn’t help anybody that you are defending as “Truth” all the vitriol hurled towards this guy on this website because he used to be but is no longer a mason. If you were really interested in the “Truth”, as you so blithely call it, you would have agreed with Bob One that the article ought to be withdrawn as it is is misleading at best and a lie at worst. Instead, you nit pick with BO about his choice of words. Maybe your interest is not in the “Truth”, but in attacking another human being because he has a different agenda than yours? I don’t know, it just makes me wonder.
A beautiful story posted about the merciful graces that are attached to those who have a devotion to the Mother of God will compel her enemies to hiss.
SHE IS AT THE VERY CENTER OF THE BATTLE
“We can see that from the beginning of the Scriptures (Genesis 3) to the end (Revelation 12), the Blessed Virgin Mary is in enmity and in battle against satan, his demons, his works, his attacks, his distortions, and his lies.
Saint Irenaeus said, “Mary is directly involved in the victory of Christ” (cf. Against Heresies, 3:22). In a unique and particular manner, the Blessed Virgin Mary is united to and participates in the victory of Christ “who will crush his [satan’s] head.”
I WILL PLACE ENMITY…
“The word “enmity” signifies mutual opposition. The enmity is absolute, irrevocable and complete because that is the nature of the opposition between the offspring of the Woman (Jesus) and the offspring of the devil (sin, the fallen angels and those who consciously and voluntarily propagate sin, evil and death). For this reason, the lineage of the Woman and the lineage of satan must be in complete opposition, which is made clear by the word “enmity.”
Anonymous, stop attacking people.
You attack anyone who supports the Doctrine of the Faith.
This is a Catholic web site; don’t you have anything better to do on a site that promotes your anti-Catholic beliefs ?
Dottie, if you actually listened to what I write here you might actually begin to see the vitriol offerred up here on CCD for what it is: People who are so insecure about their relationship with Christ that they have to tear each others’ throats apart clawing their way to heaven. Apparently that is your spiritual path as well. God help you.
Bob One, hatred is wanting someone to go to Hell.
Love is wanting someone to go to Heaven.
Who wished any specific individual to go to Hell on this site ?
Are you always this confused ?
Thanks bob one, No, I did not see that until you pointed it out.
October 29 – Our Lady of Follina (Italy, 1150)
The Madonna and the Mason
In 1901, I went to visit a priest in Warmia, Poland. In his house I noticed a beautiful painting of the Virgin Mary. Surprised, I asked where that beautiful Madonna came from. He said: “One day I was called by a dying man whose name I had never heard before, even though after sixteen years here I got to know all the souls in my charge… I entered the house of the sick man, someone took me to him, and he told me: “Father, I am a Mason. I wanted you to come so I could give you this picture of the Mother of God. I do not want it to go to my heirs, the other Masons. All my life I have venerated the Madonna, she’s all I have left of my Catholic religion.”
I thanked him and added: “It would be even more beautiful if you also gave your soul to God to repair the past.” He asked me: “Is that actually possible?” – “Of course,” I answered. “All you need to do is retract your membership from the Freemasonry and confess your sins.”
The dying man agreed, retracted his membership by signing a statement with a trembling hand, and received the sacrament of confession with great compunction. Reconciled with God, he died a Christian death.
