The following comes from a Jan. 14 story in UTSanDiego.
About 1,000 people packed into a church hall in El Cajon on Tuesday night to celebrate Pope Francis’ historic assignment of a former Assyrian bishop to the Chaldean Catholic Church.
“The grace really overwhelms,” Bishop Bawai Soro said shortly before the reception at St. Peter Chaldean Catholic Cathedral. “I’m still processing what it means for me to be joining the colleagues in the church. It’s a unique experience.”
The appointment was the culmination of about eight years of effort, and it was not without controversy. Soro joined the Roman Catholic fold — which includes the Chaldean church — after breaking from the Assyrian Church of the East, for which he served as a bishop in San Jose. Religious leaders of the Assyrian community there sued Soro, claiming that he had illegally taken over a church building and other property while trying to convert the congregation to Catholicism.
Soro lost the three-year-long suit and moved to San Diego, where he was taken in by the Most Rev. Sarhad Yawsip Jammo, head of the western U.S. Diocese for Chaldean Catholics.
While Soro said he was following his faith, others in San Jose accused him of embezzlement and misconduct. At least one person continued the accusations this week on a religious blog following the announcement of his papal appointment.
But on Tuesday, Soro’s new status was cause for celebration in El Cajon, where a large number of Iraqi immigrants of Chaldean Catholic faith live. From 40,000 to more than 50,000 Chaldeans live in the city and surrounding communities.
A well-dressed crowd of men, women and children squeezed into the church hall to hear Jammo speak about the appointment during a three-hour reception. For them, the message was about religious unity.
“From the Chaldean community, we are completely rejoicing and so thankful,” said Mark Arabo, a leader of the Iraqi community in El Cajon and president and CEO of the Neighborhood Market Association….

Wow well what do you know? Interesting…..
I pray for the SSPX will be next to re-unite soon too.
“I pray for the SSPX will be next to re-unite soon too.”
Sweet Abeca, I am also praying and many others are praying for this too!
Catherine you and I are gathered here in His name……God hear our prayers. : )
It is a mistake to call Eastern Catholics “Roman Catholics” or to refer to the Universal Church as “the Roman Catholic fold” as this story does. The Catholic Church is a communion of churches including the Western (Latin) and Eastern churches. Latin Catholics are called Roman Catholic, but not Eastern Catholics.
Dear Father Coiro: I don’t know you, but I am sorry you got slammed by Catherine for posting this helpful clarification.
I’m grateful for you taking the time to educate the faithful about the rich diversity in the Catholic Church!
Suzanne you are not helping Father in humility. There is nothing wrong for a child of our Lord’s to ask and clarify. Nothing, she did it respectfully! I was taught by a devout holy priest, he said it was OK to ask questions that may concern the faithful, as long as it was done in charity and respect, which she did! It is you who took it personal, as if she committed a sin in doing so.
Ye think that those running our church are perfect? Better think again. Ye forgets that when the faithful ask, it only helps our priests continue to be holy and help them work on their humility. Too bad you had to add a wicked tone to Catherine’s asking. To bad you had to show your true colors.
Suzanne,
Please explain why Catherine’s posting was disrespectful! I read the one above and I am at quandry as to why you think it was disrespectul! Am I missing something?
May God have mercy on an amoral Amerika!

She won’ answer. People that get offended so easily are led by pride and have a hard time answering. She’ll reply below most likely attacking.
Fr. Gregory Coiro, O.F.M. Cap., writes, “It is a mistake to call Eastern Catholics “Roman Catholics” or to refer to the Universal Church as “the Roman Catholic fold” as this story does. ”
With all due respect for the holy priesthood, Fr. Gregory Coiro, isn’t it a much greater mistake when shepherds threaten to call the police on any faithful Catholic, whether they be Eastern or Western, especially when it is a Catholic who is simply asking that the teachings of the Catholic Church be guarded and defended? Is is true that you threatened to call the police on Kenneth Fisher a Roman Catholic, who courageously speaks up against the “mistakes and errors” that unsuspecting Catholics will hear at the Religious Ed Congress? Kenneth said that the police showed up, shortly after you said you were going to call them. I see that you are able to publicly address a “mistake” in print on a computer so why would you ever threaten to call the police on those who simply want to stop the continuous flowing river of heterodoxy that is invited to speak at the R.E.C. each year? Father Coiro do you love all of Christ’s lambs? Why do you *speak up* about an “mistake” in an article but threaten to have Catholics arrested who do not want the “mistakes” and “errors” taught to any Catholic, being Eastern or Western?
Interesting, I didn’t know this. Catherine is charitable enough to ask you to clarify. Father yes please let us know. We are concerned Catholics, we love our faith. Mr, Fisher is also a concerned Catholic.
It seems like an opportunity to bring up old wounds in public and therefore an attempt to embarrass and humiliate Father Coiro, rather than ask him in private, which might have been the more charitable route.
Seemingly more charitable to Fr. Coiro, perhaps, but not more charitable to those Catholics who have been scandalized. Fr. Coiro not only has the grace of his vocation, but he is a grown man well and able to express himself. Let him draw on the grace of his vocation and express himself clearly to the flock so as to truly LEAD.
Enough coddling. Too many treat priests like babies, dismissing their strength, their intelligence, their masculinity, their grace of vocation, etc. That is clericalism at its most grotesque.
Our priests are called to be leaders of MEN. So saying, since the wound has caused damage and is no longer private, why not address the question? It is often a great grace when one is called upon to defend their position.
AM, you don’t come to my defense when I question other priests who come on here, even when they say absurd things in the present moment. So perhaps you might want to rethink the two faced nature of your support for those who have questions for priests, yet you jump to defend Catherine when she attempts to publicly embarrass a priest for an incident that not only didn’t appear here, but happened years ago. Either priests aren’t to be coddled, or they are to be coddled. But it shouldn’t depend upon your view of the discussion at hand. A little consistency might help you make your points, but instead you resort to whichever tactic is convenient at the moment even when it destroys your own credibility.
YFC, when did you question a priest? If it was Fr. Karl, I do not question your questioning him, but rather your notion of branding what he says as ‘absurdity.’
As to being two faced, look a mirror. Better still, look to your own posts as compared to the Gospel and the Catechism and what seems to lay in your own heart. I will take the fact that you are addressing what you perceive as my inconsistency or two-faced nature as a tremendous compliment. Thank you. And I mean that sincerely. For you have given me a gem. God reward you!
Even so, I will try to opt for an increase in consistency as you are a resident expert on staying consistent in your support of homosexual sex/marriage while quoting the Bible that you simultaneously attempt to dismiss. And that’s my gem for you, YFC, the CCD master of inconsistent consistency. That is why I would never look to you as the measure of credibility – despite your generosity in giving your opinion.
God bless.
Fr. Coiro, is right on this issue. I myself have tangled with a well known radio Catholic who said that Roman Catholics can not fulfill their Sunday obligation by attending an Eastern Church Mass. This supposedly well versed Catholic even continued to tell me I was wrong after I quoted him from Canon Law and from the Catechism of the Catholic Church. After I got off the air with this gentleman, I called on one of our then hidden advisors, His Excellency Bishop Mark Hurley, now deceased, and told him what had happened (Bishop Hurley was also a featured speaker on that radio channel). The Bishop emphatically told me that I was right and that so called expert was wrong.
The Roman Catholic Church is the largest of the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church, but all are equal under the Bark of St. Peter. One of the Popes, Popes, Pope Sixtus, was a Maronite!

Ann Malley made excellent comments to help YFC reflect on his actions here…..YFC I hope you just reflect, its better to remain silent and reflect. Doing so may help prevent one from saying foolish prideful things.
YFC you commented in consideration of Father. That is good of you. I don’t think Catherine meant anything bad either by it as well. It was just an honest question. Maybe some of the faithful had asked him but didn’t get answers. Remember if Father decides to reply, it will in his reply and an opportunity to turn this into real dialogue not into what you thought it may turn into just because it was asked here on a small Catholic website.
Bad will can’t always be hidden dear one. If someone is of good will, even if false charges are presented, a holy person, will not display bad will but may respond in charity as well.
I wonder why people took this as a personal attack, when it is not. I just don’t see any wrong in her question. If something was unjust, it does need to be addressed and sometimes you never know how the Lord works and how He will place us in situations that may help us be meek and humble of heart.
Abeca, thank you for this post. I think you have to take Catherine’s criticism of Father C in the context of her style. She consistently brings up postings from many of us she disagrees with, often YEARS after the fact, so that she can take it out of context and criticize the intentions of a poster. She even does this when a person has not even posted on the topic she is talking about. She does this all the time. It is one of her M.O.s.
YFC the beauty of God’s gifts in every person, is their style….no matter how you may disapprove, it is still His gift and His reason for it.
Moses was a stutterer….but God still wanted him to speak to the king who was slaving his people. One may not have liked his delivery but it was still God’s will.
Also you wish to use this opportunity to poke at Catherine….She addressed a question to a priest. Not you. It was done in charity. Now it’s up to Father if he will handle this one on his own. If you ask me, you are doing precisely what you accuse Catherine of “bring up old wounds in public and therefore an attempt to embarrass and humiliate” …..you just did that to Catherine but I doubt she feels embarrassed or humiliated because she knows who she is dealing with. You assume that Father will have those emotions….well if he did, then Father needs to continue to seek our Lord and His cross and ask our Lord to help him answer His children so he can feed Christ’s sheep.
Also YFC yes in private is good too but I still don’t think calling the police is private either. : )
Lets just say that I wish Father would have been that charitable to Mr, Fisher, talking to him in private and listening to his concerns that are real concerns that does affect us all.
“With all due respect…”
Catherine, when you start a proclamation with those words, I know darned well that fire and brimstone are about to gush from your mouth — or keyboard.
You love to dig up very old stuff to use against people.
Why not spend your time doing something useful — like volunteering at a homeless shelter? Or at a parish?
Your time at your computer seems to result in lots of venom.
P.S. Father Coiro is correct on what he writes — correct, and helpful.
Far too many Americans are ignorant about Eastern Catholics, and so his post was informative.
Yours, Catherine, was the usual attack and slam.
Why is discovering the Truth considered an attack and slam, Suzanne? You suggest Catherine opt for volunteering or working at a homeless shelter. That’s very well and good, but have you considered that perhaps Catherine does not have the option of serving the Catholic community in such a way? Perhaps addressing these other very serious matters – those that cause much confusion within the flock – is the apostolate given her by God.
Catherine’s question to Fr. Coiro could present the perfect opportunity for him to explain his position. You do not give Fr. Coiro the credit for having the ability to defend his position – one which may very well be justifiable. Our priests are not babies to be sheltered by you. They are called to evangelize the world and as such are well accustomed to having to answer just such questions. Do not deny them the opportunity for it is instructional and part of their vocation.
Instead, you seem to opt for just shutting up and working at the soup kitchen. This allows rumor/suspicion to flourish. So why not answer the question?
Susanne you said “was the usual attack and slam”….your baring false witness…you need to go to confession!
“I’m grateful for you taking the time to educate the faithful about the rich *diversity* in the Catholic Church!”
“Why not spend your time doing something useful — like volunteering at a homeless shelter? Or at a parish?” Translation = Please go away and do anything else except expose us!
“You love to dig up very old stuff to use against people. ” Translation = Please stop exposing the darkness to the light!
As far as digging up things written on CCD or other public websites…Mark 4:22 For there is nothing hidden which shall not be made manifest: neither was it made secret, but that it may come abroad….Douay -Rheims
I am sorry to see that you and YFC are upset by Catholics who do not support the word *diversity* in the fashion that you and YFC do. Father Coiro has publicly posted on CCD and gone to the mat on more than one occasion in strong defense of Cardinal Mahony’s handling of the sex abuse scandals and he also defended Cardinal Mahony’s right to select the new Pope. Many disagree with that Suzanne so when Catholics are going to be threatened with arrest by our own priests for defending the faith, it is important for Father Coiro to let us know if this is true. Kenneth Fisher posted that this happened and I know he would never lie about this.
Catherine why are you dragging me into this rant against diversity? Isn’t it about time that you minded your own business, instead of harping about posts and incidents that were done years ago? Why don’t you instead harp on your own sins you committed this morning?
YFC,
Could you please stop dragging the word Catholic into your harping rants that purvey perversion as a fellow norm. Homosexual acts offend God.
THE FOUR SINS CRYING TO HEAVEN FOR VENGEANCE
1. Willful murder (including abortion) : And the Lord said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood is crying to me from the ground.” (Genesis 4:10).
2. The sin of Sodom: Then the Lord said, “Because the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is great and their sin is very grave, I will go down to see whether they have done altogether according to the outcry which has come to me.” (Genesis 18:20-21).
3. Oppression of the poor: “You shall not afflict any widow or orphan. If you do afflict them, and they cry out to me, I will surely hear their cry.” (Exodus 21-23)
4. Defrauding laborers of their wages: “You shall not oppress a hired servant who is poor and needy, whether he is one of your brethren or one of the sojourners who are in your land within your towns; you shall give him his hire on the day he earns it, before the sun goes down (for he is poor, and sets his heart upon it); lest he cry against you to the Lord, and it be a sin in you.” (Deuteronomy 24:14-15).
So called “YFC”,
Why don’t you spend time on meditating on your unatural SINS of the flesh, or at best “support for those that do them” St. Paul to the Corinthians?
You sir are a hypocrite. I was was involved in the sins of the flesh, but I never tried to justify them to anyone, and I could not justify them to myself, so by the Grace of God and His Mother, I eventually woke up. Wake up YFC while it still is not too late!
May God have mercy on an amoral Amerika!

“Digging up old stuff to use against people,” is the slur used when proof presents itself, Suzanne. For when there is no ‘digging’ there is the, you cannot prove it, I never said that whitewash – or rather, blackwash.
So go ahead and busy yourself at the soup kitchen. That seems to be your charism. But there are other charisms out there. You might want to respect that instead of labeling something that makes you uncomfortable as venom.
Suzanne what makes you think that Father will respond? Don’t you think that Catherine knows very well that he won’t reply. It was meant for him to reflect on his actions. Reflection is good! You speak for father as if already know that he will react as you have. A father who loves his children will not rationalize as you have here.
How dare you stop Father from growing more. You fall into tricks of the evil one. Don’t assume that there was malice on Catherine’s questioning? I wonder if the one seeing malice is actually the one who holds much more malice than many of us can understand.
Suzanne, you use the words “you know darn well” ….really do you think we all think like you or assume as you?
I don’t have that kind of malice in me, neither does Catherine…..so I don’t understand you nor do I know darn well as you claim you think she knows….
Those words “With all due respect…”….I use them to make sure the person knows that I mean to speak in respect, it is not in malice intend as you, it is to remind the person that I know with whom I am addressing and am choosing my words because I do respect them and value them. It is done to help them consider my words without jumping the gun….just like you have here. You seem to assume Father will react as you have and you assume ill from Catherine’s comments…
Dear Catherine,
My recollection of the incident to which you refer (It occurred about 15 years ago) is that the then-attorney for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles instructed me to inform the demonstrators that they had to keep moving or their gathering would violate the law and the police would be notified. I delivered the message but I do not recall summoning the police. Someone else may have done that, or the police may have decided to look into the matter themselves since they had a substation nearby. In any case, the demonstrators were within their rights to express themselves and the Archdiocese of Los Angeles acted within its rights to insist that the law be observed.
Thank you, Fr. Coiro, for responding to Catherine’s question. I can appreciate your position, especially since it appears you were just the messenger. Not fun that.
And yet, how sad it is when family matters come to such a head that police need to be called and the citing of civil law and ‘rights’ replaces the law of love and truth that should rule instead. I wonder if we’ll ever stop turning to Pilate when faced with uncomfortable truths.
God bless and thank you again for responding.
Thank you Father for replying. God bless you for not taking it personal.
In response to Father Gregory Coiro, O.F.M. Cap
Pope Francis recently stated: “The digital world can be an environment rich in humanity, a network not of wires but of people” said Pope Francis adding, “The internet in particular offers immense possibilities for encounter and solidarity. This is something truly good, a gift from God.” ….Los Angeles Times, Tom Kington Jan. 23, 2014.
Dear Father Coiro, Thank you for taking valuable time to respond to the question that I had asked you. The Holy Father is right about the opportunity to dialogue and work for the solidarity of truth. I understand that you might not have recalled summoning the police at that time approx. 15 years ago. Many things were taking place around that particular time, including the hiding and shuffling of serial predators within the Church. It has also been brought to my attention that there was more than one occasion where the faithful had the police called on them or were threatened to have the police called on them. Father Coiro we can see in the story above about the Chaldeans the time and effort and admitted controversy that was involved in achieving religious unity in Christ I do believe it would be a healing opportunity to dialogue about the controversial circumstances that still do exist and and the ones that were also taking place around that time.
Continued for Father Coiro from January 29, 2014 at 3:09 pm
Father Coiro, Why is there very swift and unjust actions taken against faithful Catholics for defending the truth or penalties sought against dear Mother Angelica who has done so much to evangelize and bring the Cathollic faith to millions without years of horrific sex abuse scandal being attached to her very good works? Mother Angelica spoke up about the teachings of the Catholic Church in defense of the Real Presence and for this, like the “demonstrators” who had the police called on them, Mother Angelica was also unjustly treated for defending the fullness of Truth. Father Coiro, are we to learn from history about unjust laws and mistakes or is Church history just being allowed to repeat itself in the same cruel fashion where Jesus Christ, the Son of God was the first example of being unjustly persecuted and eventually put to death for simply speaking the Truth. Cardinal Mahony and many shepherds were complicit with horrific injustices when they failed to *immediately call the police* on the most heinous of all criminals who sexually preyed on and destroyed the faith of many innocent children and their families. No Father Coiro, the police were never immediately called on these dangerous serial predators and children continued to be raped, molested and some victims even committed suicide. Instead of using this valuable time to protect children and guard the deposit of the faith, during this disgraceful time in Church history Cardinal Mahony busy assailing a faithful nun with ease and vigor in demonstrating and seeking another unjust persecution or unjust conviction.

Father Coiro, Rome did not seek to discipline or persecute Mother Angelica for simply upholding the truth, meanwhile we know that Cardinal Mahony hid the evil in his own backyard and shuffled cesspools of putrid corruption while he busied himself in seeking to have an interdict placed on faithful Mother Angelica for courageously standing up to his many years of recklessly undermining Church teaching and because she rightfully defending the Real Presence. You now have informed us that it might have also been Cardinal Mahony’s then well-paid attorney who perhaps advised priests such as yourself to call the police on brothers and sisters in Christ or “demonstrators” as you have referred to them. The Blessed Mother and John the beloved apostle were probably also called “demonstrators” at that time while they remained faithfully standing at the foot of the Cross. You ARE right though when you state that these brothers and sisters in Christ were *demonstrating* their true love and their faith in witnessing Christ still being crucified. The same is happening today within the Church. Father Coiro, you have vigorously defended Cardinal Mahony’s handling of the sex abuse scandals on CCD, even after the behind the scenes shuffling of these many serial predators have been publicly revealed in legal documents. I understand your obligation of obedience to those in authority but I also understand that Pope Francis is correct if we can use the internet to address these injustices and heal wounds.

Father Coiro, What truths were these “demonstrators” and Mother Angelica trying to communicate that found them or caused them to be found worthy of such unjust treatment by swiftly calling the police on them or swiftly seeking an interdict from the Vatican to be placed on dear Mother Angelica. The truth is Father Coiro, “No servant is greater than the Master” and this is why faithful religious and faithful laity are being persecuted by those who no longer believe that truth.
What falsehoods are still being allowed to be taught by apostates at the REC? Why is there no immediate swift action to stop these attacks on the truths of our faith? Why is there only swift action taken when used to call the police on those who do not want the “mistakes” that are being taught within the Church? The prevailing message then was: No police will ever be called for serial molesters and rapists and still for today, there will be no immediate action taken or serious penalties for apostates or heretics within the Church, just the swift calling of police and serious penalties for those who have upheld and who do uphold the teachings of the Catholic Church.

Dear Catherine,
Thank you for that informative post with the article link, although I couldn’t get your link to work. Here is a working link: https://natcath.org/NCR_Online/archives2/1998a/013098/mahony.htm
I would like to ask Fr. Coiro why the Enforcement of Canon law is discussed and applied to someone such as Mother Angelica and the police called on faithful Catholics, but Canon law is never enforced or applied to Pro-abort politicians such as Jerry Brown, Nancy Pelosi and so on?
Thank you for this thorough reply, Catherine. It is critical to understand the particulars when seeking truth.
God bless!
And thank you, Loraine, for the link correction.
God bless!
Father Coiro looks like you have a lot of reflecting to do. I applaud Catherine for her nurturing of your soul. Looks Like the Lord loves you so much, that he sent you someone who is outspoken and I hope you see it as charity too.
Dear All,
I have no intention of getting into a rehash of Mother Angelica’s attack against Cardinal Roger Mahonys Catholicity. Suffice it to say, Mother Angelica was wrong. The understanding of Real Presence in “Gather Faithfully Together” is that of the Catechism of the Council of Trent. Read Raymond Arroyo’s biography of Mother Angelica and you’ll see that even the late Cardinal John O’Connor of New York told her that she was wrong.
My original post in this thread was to clarify that there are millions more Catholics in the Universal Church who are not called Roman Catholic even though they are in full communion with the Roman Pontiff. The Eastern Catholic Churches are a little-understood treasure among Latins.
There are gifts in which our Lord gives each and everyone here. A good priest once told me that when he was in error in some way, he hated being corrected, but he knew deep inside, that he had to welcome that correction or even any valid concerns from the faithful, he needed to change on how he viewed them, in order to grow more closer to Christ and His cross.
He then no longer saw them as threats but as loving actions from God’s children, who wanted nothing more but a stronger relationship with him in Christ.
A good Shepherd of Souls will accept loving corrections. That is the experience I had with my beloved late Archbishop Lawence Khai and other Bishops. Likewise a loving servant will accept counter corrections, if they come about, from the Shepherd he seeks to serve.
May God have mercy on an amoral Amerika!
Viva Cristo Rey!
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
Kenneth M. Fisher
Excellent post, Abeca. And true for all of us.
Thank you Ann. You are right, it applies to us all. Even more so when a good priest is guiding us and helping us turn away from him. : )
Correction I wrote turn away from sin…..guiding and helping us turn away from sin…..sorry guys
Well!
The fan club sure banded together to give me a sound thrashing when I pointed out how fond they are of…well…giving people sound thrashings.
I supposed they need something to keep them busy.
On the up side, they made it clear that their “love fest” is about as attractive and loving as a pit bull attack on the WWW.
It’s not about trying to look attractive, Suzanne. It’s about seeking the truth and learning to understand each other’s position. It would have been good for us to understand Fr. Coiro’s pov.
Often as a parent I have to do things my children don’t understand – often not until they’ve had children of their own do they understand. But when asked an honest ‘why’ isn’t it better to explain? That’s not seeking permission on behalf of the parent. Nor is asking a ‘slam’ from the child.
Why is truth and honest questioning so feared?
I do not know who you are or what you’ve posted in the past, Suzanne. Rather I’m reacting to what you’ve posted in the here and now. What you wrote to Catherine about her question was a rather nasty and you know it judging by your assessment of pit bulls and love fests. And here too you comment on others needing something to keep them busy – obviously you have the same need otherwise you wouldn’t be here.
So what is your issue with Fr. Coiro answering a question?
My ISSUE, dear, is that Catherine digs up ancient posts and uses them to interrogate people as if she were The Grand Inquisitor.
Thank you for getting back with a non answer regarding Fr. Coiro. Your cutting tone says a lot, despite you not answering the question.
God bless
Thank you both, Ann Malley and Abeca for your supportive and very logical and truthful posts. If a poster is going to write something whether it be in 2011 or 2014 on a public website while claiming to be in “full communion” then it is more than fair or appropriate to ask posters to please explain why they posted something that causes confusion or lack of trust or something that undermines the Church or runs contrary to the consistent teachings. One of the best methods that faithful pastors, retreat givers and good Catholic schools have always used to guard the faith is to have simply come across a statement or even look into articles that have been published by a person that has been invited to a parish retreat or school to speak. They would often have to pre-address the invited speaker in order to ask them why they wrote something that sounded like it was undermined the Church’s clear teaching. Many good pastors have disinvited a speaker based on a statement or articles that they had once publicly written. The pastor would question the invited speaker about the article and the invited speaker would often still hold confusing ambiguous views of the Church’s teaching. That is not an Inquisition, that is guarding the flock I highly doubt that Suzanne would turn over all of his/her financial dealings in a blind faith before he/she made sure that the individual was trustworthy in matters of guarding one’s bank account. When it comes to the salvation of souls, it is ALL the more important and it is the charity of clarity that answers questions. If someone is ashamed of or trying to hide what they have publicly posted in the past because the evidence shows a duplicitous quality or a rejection of Church teaching then this gives them the opportunity to explain why they wrote something and even an opportunity to stop writing confusing, ambiguous or undermining posts. God bless you both!
Thanks for your post, Catherine.
Suzanne is just proving his/her own hypocrisy by dredging up historical nomenclature to blacken you – talk about digging. Kind of like the Inquisition he/she cites as being used to silence dissent/diversity in the Church. The old ‘takes one to know one’ pops to mind.
Suzanne,
I have noticed that you are constantly using the same shiboleths that the separated brethren use against those of us who actually do engage in apologetics! Ask youself why is that?
Suzanne, I am big boy, so go ahead and address your invective against me, but be prepared for reasoned rebuttal.
May God have mercy on an amoral Amerika!
Viva Cristo Rey!
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
Kenneth M. Fisher
Kenneth, dear, first of all you need to learn spelling.
Our country is “America,” not “Amerika.”
As for reasoned rebuttal, I’m not that interested in your rebuttals, or even your buttals, so don’t waste your time.
And your frequent use of exclamation points (!) suggests you might want to switch to de-caf.
You and your fan club members have already made up your minds that you are infallible, so there we have it.
Lil’ Wayne spells it that way.
Suzanne I am not surprised by your response here….the fan club? really? Wow, well I guess if I was to choose a fan club, I would hope that it was one that was joined with Christ and His cross for the sake of my salvation and for others. Its a pity how pride gets in the way of spiritual growth.
Its nothing personal, I just wish you left out the ill assumptions towards Catherine’s questioning to clarify and her noble actions to defend a devout gentleman like Mr Fisher. It was noble and for the love of our priests, she must love this priest enough to ask. If our Lord loves us so much enough to correct us, what makes you think that others who Love Jesus, will not learn from Him on doing exactly what He wills.
I have come to know there is a lot of Priests in the World who are not interested in the Faith, but are interested in Careers and are down right heretics.
You can know them by their homilies. When they preach, they speak stuff you do not understand, in code. But when they go into specifics, you see their true colors.
Like a Sermon I heard recently went like this. Ya, know, the Wedding at Cana, Our Lord did not really make that wine, the most probable thing that happened was, he had his friends bring some more wine to share, and that is the bigger miracle our Lord wanted to teach.
Phhhlease…… Heretics.
Mchicha Wacheza something as serious as that, needs to be brought up for correction, I hope you called that priest and spoke about his error to him and followed with a letter to his bishop as well.
It is real charity/love to lovingly address a priest when he is teaching heresies and or needs correction.
Abeca,
You loving suggestions to address his obvious errors to the priest have been well taken, but been there and done that, even to his “bishop”! However; my sister in Christ and His Mother, we must keep doing it for God will not judge us on whether we succeeded, but on whether or not we even tried, Blessed Mother Thesesa of Calcutta!
May God have mercy on an amoral Amerika!
Viva Cristo Rey!
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,

Whatever else you can say about him, Father Coiro is the only one who actually posted on the topic. Fatherr Coiro is the priest that CCD ran a story about his calling out of Catholic politicians who support abortion.

“Whatever else you can say about him, Father Coiro is the only one who actually posted on the topic.” = What does it profit a shepherd or the faithful if their words do not match up consistently with their actions. Yes, Father Coiro took the time to accurately correct this article. I did wonder why Father never took the *pastoral time* to at least write or include something welcoming to the eight year effort of uniting the Chaldean Catholics.
What does your post say about YOU anonymous when # 1 You like to selectively hide and # 2. You remain completely silent when posters write very disrespectful comments to Father Karl and you undermine Father Guarnizo for not profaning the Blessed Sacrament in the case of Barabara Johnson a lesbian activist.
Thank you though for showing how very important past posts are. That was very good that Father Coiro *called out* those politicians who defend abortion but Father Coiro also vigorously praised Cardinal Mahony’s handling of the sex abuse scandals. It would be helpful if Father Coiro would answer if he called the police on a Catholic who vigorously defends the right to life with such loyalty and love.
8 year effort of uniting the Chaldean Catholics?
I guess you have no idea of what the article was even about!
Sheesh!
What do anonymous posters say when they want to hide their inconsistencies because they do not like the truth that is being pointed out? = “I guess you have no idea of what the article was even about! Sheesh! ”
St. Augustine was converted and he became a great defender of the faith. St. Augustine did not hide his lamp under the cover of *anonymous darkness* or reduce his teaching vocabulary to an occasional … “Sheesh! ” St. Augustine did much better than that and you should be able to do that too….that is unless you have another hidden agenda which does not consistently defend and uphold “all” Church teaching. Your “Sheesh!” is really meant as a *Shush* because rebellion, inconsistency and ambiguity perform their best works of confusion in the dark.
Your crystal ball needs a new battery, honey. It ain’t workin’.
How incredibly sweet that you called me honey but I would much prefer that you buck up to consistently defend and uphold “all” of the teachings of the Catholic faith.
Proverbs 27:6-8
Douay-Rheims 1899 American Edition (DRA)
“Better are the wounds of a friend, than the deceitful kisses of an enemy.”
Catherine, honey, I’m not your enemy.
Anony crystal ball? Now you really have discredited yourself even further. There are better ways…..You watch too much TV….why would you assume a crystal ball? Especially on a lay faithful who posts nothing but church teachings?
You contradict yourself….if you are not her enemy why then accuse her of using a crystal ball? Do you know that crystal balls are used by witches and people who are not followers of Christ, or they are used to poke fun of the occult? Do you gather how serious you just sounded against another of faith? I would never use that on you Anony…even if you sometimes seem lost
We need to pray an exorcism prayer, this website needs to have a priest bless it as well.
Catherine, I know you are among several posters who are irritated and annoyed by people who post anonymously. As one of those who do, I would like to share with you some thoughts. People really don’t post anonymously because they are up to no good, or because they don’t believe in Church teachings or because they are afraid of something. People post anonymously simply because they choose to. Those who do will be degraded by some of the posters who may think that insulting is a way of manipulating people into doing what they want or a way of taking revenge on someone who does something they don’t like. I know when I post anonymously that I will be falsely accused of things but I came to the decision that it’s their problem not mine. Thank you.
Oh, Catherine, you do go on.
As for posting under the name “anonymous,” this is the internet, so for all we know, you are some old truck driver with a beard, holding a can of ice-cold Bud, trying to stir up trouble and get people riled.
If you have children, something tells me they have probably run screaming from any contact with the Church, due to your take on Catholicism.
God love ya, Jonathan, folks fled from Jesus preaching Truth, too. That is the straight dope. They even crucified Him to shut Him up.
That said, He also sported a beard and drank spirits – you might be onto something.
Ann Malley, God bless you and thank you for reading all of the posts and for your continued support. I keep reflecting back to that article written by Cardinal James Stafford titled , “In 1968, something terrible happened in the Church”. We are still witnessing the fallout. The truth was not welcomed in that basement when signatures of dissent were collected. The truth is still not welcomed by *anonymous* dissenters.
“for all we know, you are some old truck driver with a beard”
“If you have children, something tells me they have probably run screaming from any contact with the Church, due to your take on Catholicism.”
Jonathan, Hmmm, interesting! ….Are you perhaps someone with a beard? You are right Jonathan, this is the internet and that is what afforded you the very obvious and transparent luxury of hiding behind a new and unrecognized name. Our children still love and practice their Catholic faith. They love God and often share the Catholic faith with those that they come into contact with. There are so many incredibly beautiful stories that our children have shared with us that I believe even your heart would be moved. I also remember when I played varsity volleyball and basketball at our Catholic high school and parents or the sisters would often have to drive the team to the games on the freeway. What fun! We would signal to those old bearded truck drivers to honk their loud horns and they always complied and the girls would all wave and laugh and smile. So thank you for the compliment and good memories because those old bearded truck drivers were so much kinder than your very mean spirited comments or hopes that someone’s children no longer practice their Catholic faith. Pretty transparent, *beard and all*!
Ann Malley I love your sponk! Good response. Makes Jonathan look like someone who can’t discern, that is a nice way of putting it.
Jonathan you are no gentleman, talking down to a lady like that and even to a mum. I guess that makes you a coward, because you feel safe on here to say those disrespectful things to her, if you said it to her in front of my young men in my family, don’t be surprised if one of them gave you a brass knuckle….no real man would stand there and watch someone talk to a lady like that.
Hymn: Te, splendor et virtus
O Jesu! life-spring of the soul!
The Father’s power and glory bright!
Thee with the Angels we extol;
From thee they draw their life and light.
Thy thousand thousand hosts are spread
Embattled o’er the azure sky;
But Michael bears thy standard dread,
And lifts the might Cross on high.
He, in that sign, the rebel powers
Did, with their dragon prince, expel;
And hurled them from the heavens’ high towers,
Down, like a thunderbolt, to hell.
Grant us, with Michael, still, O Lord,
Against the prince of pride to fight;
So may a crown be our reward,
Before the Lamb’s pure throne of light.
To God the Father praise be done,
Who hath redeemed us through his Son;
Anoints us by the Holy Ghost,
And guards us by the Angel host. Amen.
I think there is a tad too much venom spilling forth from our fingertips when in fact keeping things on a courteous tone rather than criticizing one another personally is the style worthy of those who would profess to follow the teachings of Our Lord, Jesus Christ. Among the many wonderful things He said was, “Love One Another.” Let’s love both truth and one another without breathing fire into the eyes of our fellow posters. Elevate the game, my friends! We’ll be heard so much more clearly if we aren’t spitting out venom with our words.
