ACTOR AND CATHOLIC activist Jim Caviezel spoke his mind during his recent guest appearance at Holy Trinity parish in Ladera Ranch — and the audience of over 1,000 loved every minute of it.
Caviezel’s strong pro-life message focused on the fight to restore reverence for life, the horrors of human trafficking and the joy of marriage and family.
“He was spot on with his Catholic doctrine and content and called everyone to be a warrior not an appeaser, recalled Fr. Michael St. Paul, pastor of Holy Trinity. “Many people said, and I agree, it was the best pro-life speech they had ever heard. Many of the people I spoke to said it was great to hear this message in front of the altar; maybe it will give the clergy an opening to do the same.”
Caviezel is a fighter in the most positive sense. He is a zealot for the message of his Catholic faith and is not afraid to use his platform and celebrity to speak the truth. Speaking about his focus on films with Catholic/Christian themes, Caviezel said, “I can’t stop, I will not stop spreading the message that God’s children are no longer for sale. If you bring down the family, you bring down the culture and then we are destroyed….”
Fr. Michael had met the actor over 20 years ago while he was still in the seminary, and the actor gave him tickets to see the Passion of the Christ, in which he played Jesus….

I have not seen all his movies, but the ones I have seen– I sense the depth of his Catholic life in his acting. There is a sort of gravitas and strong purpose in the delivery of his lines. It makes me wonder if a person lacking Caviezel’s faith could bring the same kind of presence to the screen. I have not seen him lately in any movies so I wonder if Hollywood has cancelled him for his witness to Jesus. Thank you, Jim Caviezel, for your witness to Jesus Christ, our living hope.
His movie “Sound of Freedom” on sex trafficking of children is a must see.
Gene Hackman, who just died, was a much better actor than Caviezel. Hackman was of the best in show business, and Hackman was not a person of faith; he was an avowed athiest.
I think you’re seeing what isn’t there because you feel a need to affirm the importance of faith when it’s irrelevant to the issue in this case. Faith has no bearing on acting ability.
Mr. Caviezel spoke at the North Texas Catholic Men’s Conference last year. He did a great job. He is an example of a Catholic lay person exercising their gifts and taking Christian faith and morals into the world. May God bless Mr. and Mrs. Caviezel and their three beautiful children (adopted from China).
Jim Caviezel is 100% right about the importance of the family. Sister Lucia of Fatima said the final battle between Christ and Satan will be about marriage and the family. Our Lady of Fatima pray for the family and marriage between a husband and wife.
I don’t care what Sister Lucia said. Fatima is old news. Are people going to go on and on about Fatima forever? At some point it should have an expiration date. Like who talks about Our Lady of Knock anymore? It expired.
Thanks, Restrainer, for relating, once more, the extremely important message from Our Lady of Fatima, about the terrible, final battle with Satan, suffered on earth, over the sacredness of God-ordained Traditional Marriage and Family. Following Our Lady’s instructions will help us to win this evil battle for Christ, the Son of God, and Our Blessed Mother– the Most Holy Mother of God. Sexual sin is at the root of this terrible evil. It is so fitting that three small children were chosen by God, in 1917, to received Our Lady’s messages regarding fighting this terrible battle– because children are the most deeply wounded in mankind’s ugly, selfish, sexual sins– by birth control and abortion–murder– and also, by fighting, violence, abuse, and divorce, in the family. The Sacrament of Marriage, and Children, in Christ, is sacred— and extremely important, the heart of every Nation and the core of all civilization. In Ireland, many priests and bishops lead their flocks on pilgrimage to their beloved Shrine of Our Lady of Knock. Many pilgrims have reported healings, graces and favors from God, with prayers answered, after making pilgrimages to this famous Shrine. In 1989, a lady named Marion Carroll, who had been bedridden for years, paralyzed with multiple sclerosis, and also suffering with severe vision impairment and epilepsy, was brought to the Shrine on a stretcher by her family. During the Blessing with the Monstrance by the Bishop, after Mass, this lady suddenly stood up and walked from her stretcher, and was completely cured. The healing miracle had no medical explanation. A very dramatic healing, by God! Today, this lady, blessed with a fantastic healing miracle from God, is a devoted volunteer at the Shrine, helping other pilgrims. At Fatima, the three blessed children who saw Our Lady and received holy messages from her, are deeply revered, worldwide. Two of them, Sts. Jacinta and Francisco Marto, are canonized Saints. Many pilgrims to this beautiful Shrine receive blessings, favors, graces, and healings, and answered prayers, from God. On May 13, 1981, the Feast Day of Our Lady of Fatima, at exactly 5:13 pm on the clock– Pope St. John Paul II was shot, but not killed, in an attempted assassination, during a ride through St. Peter’s Square, greeting crowds of pilgrims. He owed the fact that his life was spared to Our Lady of Fatima. We are all blessed to have many fine, Church-approved, beautiful, holy Shrines erected in special places where Our Blessed Mother has appeared to holy Saints, and has given them special messages from Heaven, to help us on our journey to Heaven, and to provide special graces, favors, healings, and answered prayers for us, her children, suffering on earth.
It is so sad, that nearly half of all American children today, are born out-of-wedlock, and raised in fatherless homes– America– a wealthy country– has the very worst problem in the entire world, with this sad plight. Often, the children’s mothers have children by different boyfriends– and the irresponsible boyfriends often abuse the poor children. It is quite shocking and deeply sad, to see news stories and invitations to attend Masses, religious devotions, Novenas and prayers for God to rescue the poor, stricken, sinful, lost culture in America, in traditionally-Catholic, foreign countries, and on foreign websites– such as in Ireland, and in other European, traditionally-Catholic countries. Glad they are all praying for God to rescue the sinful, fallen USA!
I would think you would be rejoicing that they are born instead of aborted.
old news, Those are, admittedly, private revelation(s). Yet, I think you and I are likely to expire before the messages at Fatima.
Rejoicing– you don’t get it. Yes, rejoicing that they are born– instead of being killed at Planned Parenthood. But what about the rest of the sad plight of most of these poor, illegitimate children?— irresponsible, fatherless homes, poverty, immoral moms with boyfriends, half-siblings from different boyfriends, child abuse and neglect, no religious nor moral home — lots of terrible problems– That is what you fail to see. There are only a very few out-of-wedlock mothers who turn their lives around, turn to Christ and the Church, repent, and change their lives, and are able to give their poor child a better chance in life– despite economic suffering and many hard challenges. America should not be a world leader in terrible, fatherless, illegitimate, impoverished, immoral homes, many boyfriends of young girls fathering half-siblings, with child neglect and abuse, desperate, hopeless situations.
It’s a catch 22 about what to do. Did Vatican II make it worse? Maybe. But it’s what we’ve got.
Jim Caviezel is an outstanding speaker who is a devout Catholic, passionately Pro Life. It is deeply moving to hear him speak about his three beloved adopted Chinese children. Two of them had brain tumors and the other one had cancer sarcoma– a deeply moving story. The oldest boy, Bo, now age 18, was abandoned on a train in China shortly after birth. All three children– now ages 18, 16 and 7, came from orphanages. Jim Caviezel and his wife, Kerri, adopted these three children because it tore their hearts out to see that no one would ever want to adopt children with disabilities or very serious medical issues. These children were not wanted for adoption, at the Chinese orphanage. Caviezel said that fatherhood changed his whole life. Makes no difference at all if your kids are born naturally or adopted. The Caviezels have a very happy, warm and deeply loving Catholic family home. Very inspiring! Jim Caviezel promotes Traditional Marriage and Family, and Pro Life, everywhere he goes– very, very excellent! It also was moving, to me, because Caviezel revealed that he himself has a disability– at age 25, he was diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia. He said that growing up, he had to work much harder in school than the other children. He was glad to have a good diagnosis. He is also left-handed. Caviezel has been deeply devoted to ending the terrible situation of child sex trafficking, and starred in the 2023 film, “Sound of Freedom.”
Jim and Kerri Caviezel and their three children live in Mt. Vernon, Washington. Caviezel was born in Mt. Vernon, 9/26/1968, and raised in Conway, WA, in a tight-knit Catholic family. He has three sisters and one brother.
Easy for a wealthy person to be generous. Good on him, but he has means that not many others do.
No. You completely misunderstand. Wealth, or poverty, comes from the hand of God. All gifts of God are a privilege– and a responsibility. Jim Caviezel said that when he was young, he was a basketball star, at 6’2″ tall– but due to a serious injury, he made the decision to become an actor instead. His athletic gift and hoped-for future, were taken away, by an injury. Caviezel pondered his future, and then decided on an acting career. He felt led by God in his struggles to become a successful actor, though the path to success was difficult. God-willing, Caviezel became a successful actor. He was deeply grateful to God, and has used his fame to speak about the holy Catholic Faith, for God, to speak about the importance of Pro Life and Traditional Marriage and Family, and has used his money, which is from God– for these important causes. He also has vigorously campaigned to stop the evil child sex trafficking, and starred in a successful film about it. He does much good– not for himself, but for God and to help mankind. Jim and Kerri Caviezel fell in love with and adopted their three beloved children from a Chinese orphanage, and gave these three a very, very special gift of all their love, in a warm, beautiful, loving family home, and provided for all their medical care. They did not know even how long each of their beloved children might live. A fulfilling but heart-wrenching journey! Even many wealthy couples do not want to adopt any disabled or severely ill children. Many want easy-to-raise children, who are completely healthy, smart, attractive, talented, etc. and of a desired gender —- to satisfy their own selfish needs.
“Fatima is old news.” To old news February 26, 2025 at 8:08 pm, I must ask: What does Our Lady think of her message being labeled “old news.”
Maybe she agrees. Particular, private revelations are not universally meaningful nor eternally relevant. They do have a limit due to their cultural boundedness. That is, if they aren’t frauds like Medjugorje.
Reply to Daniel Gallup: An estimated 70,000 people witnessed the Miracle of the Sun in Fatima, Portugal on October 13, 1917.
Reply to limits February 27, 2025 at 11:33 am: “Maybe she agrees.” If so, it would be incumbent upon you to give a basis for this agreement, from Our Lady’s own words.
There was no miracle of the sun. Eyewitness accounts don’t agree about what they saw. People got caught up in mass hysteria and believed they saw something but they don’t agree what they saw. Nothing to see here. Move along. Objectively, the miracle of the sun should be discounted as false and a rumor.
What does St. Januarius think about a hoax vile of a Medieval alchemist’s chemicals being paraded around and venerated as his blood? There are some things we should be skeptical about, and some things from Catholic history that should be quietly retired.
Everything God had to reveal to humanity was communicated fully and completely through his incarnate Word, Jesus Christ. There is no need for any revelations or appearances from Mary. Revelation ceased at the end of the Apostolic Age. There will be no new divine revelations that Catholics must believe, including so-called marian apparitions.
It is not mandatory to be a good Catholic and to accept Church-approved apparitions. However, Catholics do have a beautiful Mother of God, who has kindly done much to help suffering mankind. The Church affirms her powerful intercessions for us. Many thousands of people daily report many great graces, miracles, healings, and prayers answered, due to pilgrimages to Marian Shrines and recitations of the Rosary, as well as many related Marian devotions. In either 1208 or 1214, St. Dominic was blessed with a beautiful vision of the Blessed Virgin Mary. She gave him a Rosary and told him the prayers to recite wuth it. To this day, the Rosary is a powerful sacramental, used by millions of Catholics daily– including all popes. On July 16, 1251, Our Lady appeared in a vision to St. Simon Stock, an English Carmelite priest, and she gave him instructions on how to wear the sacramental amd receive many graces. This blessed sacramental has been worn by millions, and Our Lady’s promises to believers are all true, and Church-approved. On July 18, 1830, on the eve of the Feast of St. Vincent de Paul, young St. Catherine Laboure, a French nun of the Daughters of Charity– (a religious order established by St. Vincent de Paul and St. Louise de Marillac) began to have extremely beautiful visions of Our Blessed Mother, who gave her some powerful prophecies, which all came true. Finally, Our Lady asked that a blessed medal– a sacramental— be created which would bring many beautiful, holy graces, favors and healings to believers who wore the blessed, holy Miraculous Medal, featuring Our Lady of Graces– or Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception. The whole story is extremely beautiful, and is Church-approved. The Church encourages devotions to Our Blessed Mother under her various titles, and in all of the very helpful, beautiful and holy sacranentals she has blessed us, her children, with. Our Lady of Guadalupe is the Patroness of the Americas, and Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception is Patroness of the USA. You have much to gain– and nothing to lose!— by starting a traditional, Church-approved devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary– especially if you are Catholic. She loves all her children, looks after them, and is always ready to intercede, guide and help them, with many graces, blessings, healings, favors, abd prayers answered. The Most Holy Mother of God is recognized by the Catholic Church as our Co-Mediatrix and Co-Redemptrix in Heaven. She has a very important role in the redemption of mankind, along with Christ, her Divine Son.
While you are correct, there are some private revelations that are edifying.
I often find I could use some upbuilding and encouragement, whether from the Mother of God or someone else.
My thought.
Our Lady gave St. Simon Stock the blessed Brown Scapular– a sacramental. Good idea, to receive a blessed Brown Scapular from a priest in an investiture ceremony at a church, and follow all instructions of Our Lady in wearing it.
Reply to old news: Our Lady of Fatima said, “More souls go to Hell because of sins of the flesh than for any other reason.”
By supporting and assisting illegal immigration, Catholic Charities and the USCCB have directly been implicated in human traficking. Tell that part of the story.
Why do the comments bleed into a negative and condescending nature?
In the end, St. Faustina said it’s better to be silent
“Shun murmurs like a plague.
The tongue is a powerful vessel that can do great harm. Murmuring, gossiping, is never of God. The devil is a liar who stirs up false accusations and gossip that can kill a person’s reputation. Shun murmurs”
Google St. Faustina!
In the end, mind one’s business; keep clean one’s own house!
1 Thessalonians 4:11
I agree with you. The Divine Mercy Chaplet of St. Faustina is also very powerful, spiritually– a great gift.
The secrets of Fatima turned out to be nothing burgers.
Lourdes is cool because some people get cured there, so there’s some actual real effect still present today. What’s the real still present effect of Fatima? Guadalupe has the tilma, which is hard to dismiss as natural. But Fatima?
I didn’t know until I looked into it that Sister Lucia claimed more apparitions eight years later. Maybe the grift from the original claims wore out, and she wanted more attention.
Reply to nothing burgers: “For those who believe, no explanation is necessary. For those who do not believe, no explanation is possible.” Franz Werfel, The Song of Bernadette.
It is very important to have lots of respect for Our Blessed Mother. Not good to use repugnant, disrespectful terms, like “nothing burgers,” or “Lourdes is cool.” You do not understand Our Blessed Mother. Her interest is to comfort and help mankind in the midst of many terrible calamities on earth (WWI and WWII, the spread of evil, atheistic Communism, unjust persecution of Christians, etc.), and to heal and purify the souls of mankind, and help us get to Heaven, most of all. If mankind sins and does terrible things– wars, terrible calamities, and all sorts of horrors will result. Very simple– all true. But if people lead good, holy lives, follow Church teachings, fast, pray, and make reparation for sins, daily say the Rosary, perform the simple First Five Saturdays devotion she gave us, and try to lead good, pure, Christ-like lives– much, much good will result, and there will be peace, prosperity, happiness, and tremendous good, from God, on earth. We need to simply listen carefully to Our Lady, and follow as she says. A simple message, and she can help us to do it. She promised that “in the end, my Immaculate Heart will triumph.” I believe her. Very, very simple– all true.
Reply to “miracle of the sun February 27, 2025 at 10:13 pm” and “nothing burgers February 28, 2025 at 10:32 am:” The best sources for a negative view of the miracle of the sun would be those faithful witnesses present at the Cova at the time of the miracle who then denied (with reason) the supernatural nature of that event. I would then suppose the best source for a positive view of the miracle of the sun would be those scoffers present there who were convinced it happened. Has anyone looked into historical records for that time to give weight to present conclusions?
” and she wanted more attention.” Truly despicable, disgusting, unless you can produce evidence that she was a conniving manipulative con artist.
Reply to St. Januarius: The blood of Saint Januarius liquefies three times a year in glass containers where it’s kept as a relic. This event is considered a miracle. The first recorded liquefaction was in 1389.
Further to old news: I was on a pilgrimage to Fatima, Portugal for the 100 anniversary in 2017, for the greatest and most important apparition of the Virgin Mary in the 20th Century. It was an amazing experience that I will never forget. Pope Francis was there too with 1,000,000 pilgrims from around the world. The Miracle of the Sun witnessed by 70,000 people on October 13, 1917 was proof positive that this apparition was authentic. Nothing the Mother God says can ever be old news. Rue the day if you don’t believe her saving message!
Restrainer, I think you meant to type Mother of God in your next to last line since Our Lady is not God, but she is the Mother of God the Son.
Reply to Anne TE: Thank you for correcting me. Of course it should read Mother of God,
