The following comes from an October blog post by Dr. Taylor Marshall:
Why do Catholics in America support homosexuality proportionately more than the general population?
Two reasons: lack of authentic Catholic teaching regarding homosexuality…and the Church removed one of the clearest Bible verses on homosexuality from the lectionary:
One of the very unfortunate results of the New Lectionary is that verses that might be deemed offensive have been removed from our liturgical celebrations.
An example of the removal of offensive passages is from the readings of last week, where the reading of Saint Paul against homosexuality (including female lesbianism) in Romans 1:26-32 is notably removed from the cycle. Below are the readings for the 28th Week in Ordinary Time (Lectionary 468 and 469):
Tuesday of the Twenty-eighth Week in Ordinary Time
Lectionary: 468
Reading 1 ROM 1:16-25
Wednesday of the Twenty-eighth Week in Ordinary Time
Lectionary: 469
Reading 1 ROM 2:1-11
So what’s missing? Romans 1:26-32 is clipped out. Yet this passage at the end of Romans 1 is the locus classicus for Paul’s theology against homosexual behavior and it also forms the cited passage in the Catechism of the Catholic Church for its teaching:
In the footnotes in the CCC for this passage, you’ll find the citation for Romans 1:26-32. So if this passage is important for the Saint John Paul II’s Catechism, why is it skipped over in the Lectionary?
Here is the skipped passage in full:
26 For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. Their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural [Paul calls lesbianism is “unnatural”], 27 and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men [male homosexual acts are “shameless acts”] and receiving in their own persons the due penalty for their error. [homosexual acts are an “error” with “due penalty”]
28 And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a base mind and to improper conduct. 29 They were filled with all manner of wickedness, evil, covetousness, malice. Full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malignity, they are gossips, 30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, 31 foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless.
32 Though they know God’s decree that those who do such things deserve to die, they not only do them but also approve those who practice them. [those that approve of homosexual acts and any of the sins above deserve to die according to “God’s decree”]
1 Cor 11:23-28 was also removed in the OF lectionary – whereby one is Condemned for receiving the Eucharist unworthily.
Here are some additional Bible verses on homosexuality =
Gen 19:1-29; Rom 1:24-27; 1 Cor 6:10; 1 Tim 1:10; Jude 1:7
CCC: ” 133 The Church “forcefully and specifically exhorts all the Christian faithful. . . to learn the surpassing knowledge of Jesus Christ, by frequent reading of the divine Scriptures.
Ignorance of the Scriptures is ignorance of Christ.”
There are some evil people holding power within the Church, who want to keep not only the Laity ignorant, but also Seminarians ignorant,
so they can to the devil’s work.
” My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge;
because you have rejected knowledge, I reject you from being a priest to me.
And since you have forgotten the law of your God,
I also will forget your children.” HOSEA 4:6
Is any part of Romans anything like gay marriage?
Gay marriage = a homosexual acts.
It could just as easily be called “sodomy marriage”.
Do you call heterosexual marriage “intercourse marriage”?
Having children is part of marriage.
No JR it just marriage… you are coming from an point of view where you honestly believe the 2 are equal.. well they are not sorry.. never will be
I wonder who’s version of the Holy Bible the referred to translations of the verses are? Certainly not the homosexuals translation the Queen Jame’s version. The given poor translation couldn’t stand on its own without the words added in the parenthesis. This shows the importance of getting a copy of an accurate English translation of the Roman Catholic Holy Bible, and the Douay-Rheims version is precisely just that “the most accurate” as it comes from the Latin-Vulgate Holy Bible translated by St. Jerome himself. It is sad to think that the V2 Church demoted St. Jerome after his accurate latin translations of the Greek and Hebrew scriptures; meanwhile the V2 Church has declared/promoted sainthood to those that have pushed for…
I agree with your comments 100%, Doug. I have a Douay-Rheims Bible and the difference between it and the Lectionary is quite striking. What we hear at the NO Mass has been translated for ecumenical purposes and to soften or downright eliminate the Church’s teachings on issues like homosexuality. Just look at who has been controlling the Church the last 50+ years and it is no surprise.
The Douay-Rheims has words with different meanings that today’s society, and therefore I don’t care for the old English used.
Here are only two examples: Douay-Rheims it says to take the “MOTE” out of your eye rather than take the “LOG: out of your eye.
And in 1 Cor 6:10 the D-H uses the old word “effeminate” rather than “homosexual” as in the RSV-CE. Today effeminate means having female qualities not homosexual.
I am pretty sure that although it was a breakthrough to use the word “homosexual” instead of “effeminate”, I’m pretty sure that neither word conveys what Paul meant, since “effeminate”, as Mia points out, has to do with mannerisms in modern context, and “homosexual” as we use it today was not a concept in the days of Paul, either.
Given the history of how the Bible was written, is it at all possible to find an “accurate” English translation?
The RSV-CE is an accurate translation.
Exactly: “Is it at all possible to find an accurate English translation?”
Objective knowledge cannot be known, least of all in Scripture. Therefore there is no objective doctrine.
That answers that.
The Vulgate was certainly a landmark translation, a tour-de-force, in it’s day. But to think Biblical scholarship stopped with Jerome is rather silly.
The Lectionary readings are from the NEW AMERICAN BIBLE, is my understanding.
The Lectionary is different in each language.
All Lectionaries must be apporved by Rome.
I’m not sure if you can get an “accurate” version of anything that went on back then, The bible was written 300 years after the death Christ after generations of politics, interpretation, linguistic and cultural changes and spoken word with various interests coming in from every direction.
JR Yungk, the Catholic Church has original writings in its archives.
Just because you support homosexual acts, and the Bible does not support your personal lifestyle and beliefs, you try to downplay the Bible. We all know what you are up to.
St. Jerome merely TRANSLATED the Bible from the Greek and Hebrew in the 300s (AD);
St. Jerome did not author it.
JR you have no idea what you are talking about……
Most of the books of the Bible were written way before Jesus was born. These are in the Old Testament.
All of the books of the New Testament were written before the year 100 AD.
Oh how JR desperately wants to dis-credit the Word of God so he can appease his conscience while committing sodomy
Homosexuals are directing the Catholic Church from top to bottom. Pray and protest!!
You’re darn right Joel. My pastor doesn’t make a move without clearing it with me first!
That must be why we celebrate the Sacrament of Gay Marriage throughout the Church! Now I understand!
Gay marriage is what Pope Francis’ synod is gunning for.
then why am I still defined as “objectively disordered”? Nothing any gay guy would want as a definition.
I like the RSV-CE; large print Bible edition for ease of reading.
REVISED STANDARD VERSION – CATHOLIC EDITION.
The RSV is used as a reference in both the CCC, and also referenced in the Navarre Study Bibles, as well as the Bible used in Scott Hahn’s bible teaching courses.

Simply removing “offensive” passages from the lectionaries does not make them “go away”, we are still responsible for and bound by every word given to us by God.
Foolish lay people and clergy are doing homosexuals no favors by glossing over their sins and failing to admonish them for their behavior. They are actively approving mortal sin and will no doubt share in their punishment.
Hi, I have to know, why is it that you, a heterosexual, spends time on here admonishing others for their sexual attraction and families?
And we would like to know why you, JR Yungk, a homosexual Troll, spends time on a Catholic web site espousing Violation of both Sacred Scripture, and the CCC ?
Regarding HOMOSEXUAL Acts –

Leigh good comments
Lay people and clergy are doing hetrosexuals no favors by glossing over their sins such as homophobia.
C&H you do not get it… homophobia is a made up word by the homo-sex left, what you and your crowd has always wanted is the denial of truth. I will never accept homosexuality even if the Church suddenly did as I know it would become and apostate Church. Where homosexuality is accept cultures and civilizations soon crumble, but the so called “enlightened” left does not get that fact.
EVERY word in the English language is a “made up word”. That doesn’t mean it doesn’t describe something that really exists.
…there’s also realityphobia and truthphobia, YFC. Those are real, too. Sadly, these two fears are destroying the fabric of society. The reality will still remain, yes. Tthe confusion and devastation of the people, however, is not something that will be easily repaired.
Homophobia so called , is something your evil crowd made up to try and control and label the rest of us who call out evil when we see it…You YFC and your ilk demand that we accept your sins or be dealt with by force of law… “when evil becomes policy, I will be proudly be an outlaw”
Once again, and I will continue to say it, another result of Vatican II and enough of the mantra that Vatican II was “not correctly” carried out!! If it was not, then Latin would be the language of the Holy Mass, high altars and communion rails and statues and kneelers would not have been ripped out, there would be not altar girls, lay lectors, guitars, drums, polka, folk, rock, mariachi, hand holding, kiss of peace and the list goes and and on. So yes, Vatican II was carried out correctly!!!!
My daughter, I see more Pharisees among Christians than there were around Pilate. — St. Margaret of Cortona
Confession heals, confession justifies, confession grants pardon of sin. All hope consists in confession. In confession there is a chance for mercy. Believe it firmly. Do not doubt, do not hesitate, never despair of the mercy of God. Hope and have confidence in confession. –St. Isidore of Seville
CCC: ” 1451 Among the penitent’s acts contrition occupies first place.
Contrition is “sorrow of the soul
and detestation for the sin committed,
together with the resolution not to sin again.”
Eusebius of Caesarea (260-341)
Eusebius Pamphili, Bishop of Cæsarea in Palestine and the “Father of Church History,” writes in his book, Demonstratio Evangelica:
“[God in the Law given to Moses] having forbidden all unlawful marriage, and all unseemly practice, and the union of women with women and men with men.”3
Saint Catherine of Siena (1347-1380)
Saint Catherine, a great mystic and Doctor of the Church, lived in troubled times. The Papacy was in exile at Avignon, France. She was instrumental in bringing the Popes back to Rome. Her famous Dialogues are written as if dictated by God Himself:
“But they act in a contrary way, for they come full of impurity to this mystery, and not only of that impurity to which, through the fragility of your weak nature, you are all naturally inclined (although reason, when free will permits, can quiet the rebellion of nature), but these wretches not only do not bridle this fragility, but do worse, committing that accursed sin against nature, and as blind and fools, with the light of their intellect darkened,…

God bless!
Thank you, Ann Malley! God bless you!
Your absolutely correct Janek.
It doesn’t surprise me on many of the off-the-cuff/knee-jerking/naïve comments-opinions that the modern V2 Church members have about the Holy Bible, and all the many different Protestant and Evangelical versions with their mis-translations on the book shelves today. Focusing on the English versions the V2 Church seems to encourage V2 members to read the King James version, and the RSV-CE among others. Benedict the XVIth has claimed its his favorite version! But wait! The RSV is a protestant bible! So its authors edited a Catholic Edition (CE) how novel, taking a Roman Catholic Holy Bible, protestantizing it, then massaging it to look kinda Roman Catholic again. Why not go straight with the most…
The RSV-CE is excellent, accurate and understandable.

Leigh, but it is protestant, that means there are misinterpretations in the translations. Have you ever compared line by line and word by word the scripture readings between the truly Roman Catholic Douay-Rheims Holy Bible and any of the other English translation versions? Doubtful. You ought to. You will see an amazing difference! Books are left out, paragraphs are left out. Many sentences have completely different mistranslations/misinterpretations all to please sinful man to going about his will rather than following God’s will. Go ahead make a comparison. But don’t stop at just one verse, do many and you will awaken to the truth. The Douay-Rheims is the most accurate english translation, not misinterpreted, and when it comes…
Homosex Trolls who ‘anonymously’ Harass this board are not worth reading – the Church by contrast is Quite Clear:

Such…
This is no different than what Luther did when he said the Epistle of St. James was a straw epistle, and therefore he omitted it from his Bible. Cafeteria Catholics are now up to the Protestant mode of throwing out what they do not like. Many of the psalms are omitted from the Liturgy of the Hours, a verse or two is gone from the New American Bible (from the OT with references to Our Lady), and so the Bible is not as complete as it was before, thanks to political correctness.
Martin Luther did not omit the Epistle of St. James from the Protestant Bible.
What verses are gone from the New American Bible?
That’s disingenuous: one doesn’t have to “omit” passages from the Sacred Scriptures if they are never proclaimed in the lectionary. After all, that is where most people get their weekly scriptural content, if at all.
The best prohibition, long practiced under Stalin and Lenin, is to treat a matter with silence. Like it never occurred. The same with “unpalatable” scriptural content.
Pilar, You’re one in a million who has seen and come to the realization of the changes, most norvus ordians are not able to see the changes, they rather accept the micro-changes overtime without challenge, not noticing after years how big the changes have become. Unfortunately for those less than 50 years the gradual changes in the 7 Sacraments, doctrine (via liberal encyclicals), and Catechism have been constant, and these novus ordians have never seen or experienced living in the true Roman Catholic Faith of our great-grand fathers. Rejoice that the truth has been revealed to you, only through the power of the Holy Ghost, because we couldn’t see the truth on our own.
Just a short little true story: I was invited to read an epistle at a dear friend’s norvus ordo funeral. The lady in-charge of setting up the service handed me a sheet of paper days before the service of the epistle verses I was to read. When I arrived home out of curiosity, I compared them to my Douay-Rheims Holy Bible verses. Oh my goodness, the mis-translation and mis-interpretation were extraordinary! (Kind of like the same difference between the extra-ordinary novus ordo service and the Tridentine Latin Mass — different like night and day — my deceased friend’s very own words!) In her version, verses were missing, mis-translations and mis-interpretations were abound and led one to believe the two carried completely…
