The following comes from a November 14 Catholic News Agency article:
Citing conflicting interpretations of Pope Francis’ apostolic exhortation on love in the family, four prominent cardinals wrote a letter to him in September requesting that he “resolve the uncertainties and bring clarity.”
The full text of the letter was published in an English translation by the National Catholic Register Nov. 14.
The signatories were Cardinals Walter Brandmüller, president emeritus of the Pontifical Committee for Historical Sciences; Raymond Burke, patron of the Order of Malta and prefect emeritus of the Apostolic Signatura; Carlo Caffarra, Archbishop Emeritus of Bologna; and Joachim Meisner, Archbishop Emeritus of Cologne.
They noted the fact that “theologians and scholars have proposed interpretations” of Amoris laetitia, especially its eighth chapter on accompanying, discerning, and integrating weakness, which “are not only divergent, but also conflicting.”
The cardinals submitted five “dubia”, or doubts, about the interpretation of Amoris laetitia to be clarified by its author, also drawing the dubia to the attention of Cardinal Gerhard Müller, prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.
The foreword noted that Pope Francis “decided not to respond” to their dubia.
“We have interpreted his sovereign decision as an invitation to continue the reflection, and the discussion, calmly and with respect. And so we are informing the entire people of God about our initiative, offering all of the documentation.”
The five dubia concern the teaching found in Amoris laetitia, and its relation to the teaching of the preceding Magisterium, especially that of St. John Paul II.
Well, well, well! It seems we have a bit of a protest going on in the hierarchy! Cardinal Burke is the Vatican’s Donald Trump!
“Well, well, well! It seems we have a bit of a protest going on in the hierarchy! ”
Well, Well, Well! It seems we have a bit of inconsistency with a selective flip flopper here. Remember William Roberts, Hillary was also eventually exposed for having a public side and a private side.

Pope Francis is doing the work of the Holy Spirit and also of great leaders: he is listening! The Holy Father is listening to divergent viewpoints so that he can make fully informed decisions. God Bless Pope Francis!
And the five questions are ???
Clicking on the link above will allow you to read the full text of the letter.
in italian ‘dubbio’ carries a strong sense of emotional reaction to ambiguity, generating uncertainty. with uncertainty comes hesitation, inability to act in freedom. (see etimo.it and enter ‘dubbio’…modern italian has inherited the wide range of connotation the latin had).
The gauntlet has been thrown, with respect, love, reverence, and blah, and blah, and blah. We have four men with true courage (3 retired, one nearly so) who have asked the Pope, “do you know what you are doing?” In fact, the Dubia essentially revolve around the question of when, exactly, and how, can someone willingly involved in mortal sin, be permitted — without confession — to receive the sacraments. Philosopher Robert Spaemann asked the question perfectly, “When it concerns sexual relationships which objectively contradict the Christian way of life, I would like to know from the Pope, after what time and under which circumstances is objectively sinful conduct changed into conduct pleasing to God.” (4/29/2016) Deo Gratias.
Referring to the Bible, Cardinal Burke insists that a pope must teach according to Church Tradition or “let him be anathema.” Pope Francis does not teach according to Church Tradition. The formal act of correction will make the schism formal.
I’m fully aware clicking on the link will take one to the full text. I was simply suggesting that Cal Catholic’s text include fifty words to briefly summarize the questions. Then I could decide if it’s worth going ‘link chasing’ to read the full text.
I have always wished we had Cardinal Burke for Pope! I wish these excellent Cardinals could have some POWER in the Vatican, to lead our Church! So far, I have read that Pope Francis has not yet made a reply to them.
Clarity is very helpful in living out our lives in Christ. I hope the pope satisfies the questions of those who express doubts.
God bless these four cardinals!
Burke…
