Cardinal Timothy Michael Dolan, Archbishop of New York and Chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) Committee on Pro-Life Activities, issued a statement today inviting all people of good will to join in a prayer campaign that the change in the U.S. Supreme Court will move our nation closer to the day when every human being is protected in law and welcomed in life.
Cardinal Dolan’s full statement follows:
“As soon as Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy announced his retirement, pro-abortion groups began lobbying the U.S. Senate to reject any nominee who does not promise to endorse Roe v. Wade. While the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops does not support or oppose the confirmation of any presidential nominee, we can and should raise grave concerns about a confirmation process which is being grossly distorted by efforts to subject judicial nominees to a litmus test of support for Roe v. Wade. And we must pray.
Each Friday, from August 3 – September 28, 2018, I urge all people of good will to join me in prayer that this change in the U.S. Supreme Court will move our nation closer to the day when every human being is protected in law and welcomed in life. The USCCB Call to Prayer network will share prayers and educational resources and an invitation to fast on Fridays for this intention.
May Our Lady of Guadalupe intercede for the healing of our nation and our people from decades of abortion on demand.”

The Cardinal is correct but he should say nothing as his comment will only make the opposition fight harder to deny the confirmation.
When I first read this, I had one reaction, that being that Dolan’s reason for making these comments at this time were simply to give the anti-Kavanaugh groups more ammunition to fight his confirmation. Dolan is not our friend.
I agree.
Cardinal Dolan is a friend of Jesus. He is not a friend of evil. And false witness is evil.
The USCCB is an organization full of cowards (no, not all), that stands for the allegiance to the Democratic Party. Time to shut them down as being nothing more than the voice of a moral cipher. Of all men, Cardinal Dolan, who ate and chuckled with the devil’s apostle, President Obama, should be booted out of any sort of Catholic leadership.
The majority of bishops likely do not support Judge Kavanaugh as a Justice to the Supreme Court. Do not give the USCCB one penny.
America has an opportunity to do something very special that will bring many blessings to the entire country. For the first time in decades America has a real chance to appoint a Supreme Court Justice that will once and for all strike down Roe versus Wade. Since Roe versus Wade became the law of the land close to 60 Million unborn baby children have been killed by abortion on demand. America turn to a God of love and mercy before it is too late. End abortion now! Adoption is the loving option. Repent and convert! America support the culture of life because the culture of death will lead to the death of a culture. Pray America Pray. Pray Pray Pray!
This is all thanks to Trump. If Hillary were president, the court would be stacked with leftists. Never Trumpers were so wrong.
Oh yes, the Supreme Court…Thanks to President Trump, we have reason to be happy and optimistic! :)
Actually Never-Trumpers were right in the sense that many opposed him because they expected him to appoint pro-life justices.
Nothing these bishops say matters until they clean up their act. Get rid of the gay predator clergy once and for all so that these scandals don’t keep haunting and hurting the church.
I wonder what caused Dolan to have a falling out with the Left, especially in NYC?
It has taken him a long time to possibly figure out that despite all the federal funds sprinkled around Catholic dioceses, the Left hates the Church and all it stands for.. The Left wants the Church to crumble from within.
I hope Cardinal Dolan speaks louder and stronger, especially to show leadership to his fellow bishops. You won’t hear Archbishop Gomez pitching for Judge Kavanaugh.
Amen. We should also pray that the USCCB gets its act together. Prayer and fasting, almost makes me think we are still the Catholic Church
Wont happen Father, although prayer is always good. The USCCB is inherently in conflict with the practice of the Faith. In reality, the USCCB exists to serve the professional clergy class, that is to get money. Secondly, it exists to maintain Soviet-style adherence to the traits that lead to Vatican II and its awful implementation. It is, in other-words, the Politburo of Catholic Liberal praxis in America.
The bishops should go back and do one thing, be shepherds of their flocks. Lead them to Heaven, and fight against modernity. But, hahaha, ain’t gonna happen (with some exceptions).
See Canon Law 447: A conference of bishops, a permanent institution, is a group of bishops of some nation or certain territory who jointly exercise certain pastoral functions for the Christian faithful of their territory in order to promote the greater good which the Church offers to humanity, especially through forms and programs of the apostolate fittingly adapted to the circumstances of time and place, according to the norm of law.
Unlike Cabinet Secretaries, who generally leave office when the President does [the rare exception serves under Presidents of different parties], Supreme Court justices are replaced only upon death or retirement. FDR tried to ‘pack’ the Court in the 1930s, and was roundly rejected. Elections have consequences. Even were Mrs Clinton to have won, she would have only the same appointment opportunities Mr Trump has.
