The following comes from a May 17 Catholic News Agency article by Barbara Hollingsworth:
“In your nation, God is being eroded, eclipsed, liquidated,” Cardinal Robert Sarah, who was appointed as Prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments by Pope Francis in 2014, told hundreds of prominent Catholic clergy and lay people attending the 12th annual National Catholic Prayer Breakfast Tuesday in Washington.
In what he called “portentous times” for the Catholic Church and for the world, Cardinal Sarah condemned same-sex marriage, transgender bathroom laws, and attacks on the family as “demonic”.
“All manner of immorality is not only accepted and tolerated today in advanced societies, it is even promoted as a social good,” the African cardinal said. “The result is hostility to Christians and increasingly, religious persecution.”
“This is not an ideological war between competing ideas,” Sarah told the D.C. gathering. “This is about defending ourselves, children and future generations from the demonic idolatry that says children do not need mothers and fathers. It denies human nature and wants to cut off an entire generation from God.”
“The entire world looks to you, waiting and praying to see what America resolves on the present unprecedented challenges the world faces today. Such is your influence and responsibility,” said the archbishop emeritus of Conakry, Guinea.
“I encourage you to truly make use of the freedom willed by your founding fathers lest you lose it,” he warned his American audience.
The cardinal warned that “hidden” forms of religious persecution are just as damaging to believers as physical attacks.
“Even in this yet young 21st century of barely 16 years, one million people have been martyred around the world because of their belief in Jesus Christ. Yet the violence against Christians is not just physical, it is also political, ideological and cultural.
“This form of religious persecution is equally damaging, yet more hidden. It does not destroy physically, but spiritually… This is the will of the Evil One: to close Heaven out of envy.
“In the name of tolerance, the Church’s teaching on marriage, sexuality and [the] human person are being dismantled. The legalization of same-sex marriage, your beginning to accept contraception within healthcare programs and even bathroom bills that allow men to use the women’s restroom and locker rooms.
The Church’s challenge today is to “fight with courage and hope… and not be afraid to raise her voice to denounce the hypocrites, manipulators and the false prophets” who would lead the faithful astray.
Quick, send Cardinal Sarah back to the Vatican before Obama gets more ideas! Three months ago the Pope was in Mexico preaching to the masses. Yesterday the President of Mexico proposed that same-sex marriage be made legal in the WHOLE country. Do these presidents purposefully do the opposite of what a Church leader proclaims to their people?
Quick, send good Cardinal Sarah back to the Vatican to stay,. He would make an excellent Pope as he is so clear (VS confusing) about Church teachings. I place my trust in God but I’m more hopeful now with good Cardinals like him and Cardinal Burke. May the good Lord deliver us.
Cardinal Sarah is absolutely right because the battle we are currently under going is totally demonic. The devil and his earthly minions want to destroy the family between a woman and a man or husband and wife created by Almighty God. These Presidents are doing the work of the devil one hundred per cent. We are not fighting principalities of the flesh but of the spirit world. Brothers and sisters in Christ be not afraid for the coming of Jesus Christ King of King Lord of Lords True God and True Man is coming sooner than you think.
All those nations that are eroding or eliminating God from every day life will be eliminated by God. I urge all Americans of faith to pray to God every day that the nation be not under the Judgment of God. Heed the words of Cardinal Sarah before the hand of God falls on America and all nations that are trying to rule as if God does not exist.
He would make a GREAT Pope!!
Cardinal Sarah’s remarks are right on target. The social degradation of American society is disturbing.
This Cardinal has proclaimed what most devout Catholics have seen and desperately tried to ward off. The diabolical nature of the attack is staggering in its boldness. Led by an alien “civilazation jihadist” president, our formerly Great nation is no longer. The dumbing down of two generations has produced a gullible electorate who are brainwashed by permissives and “progressives” who have set America back to a situation that can only breed evil, chaos , and disaster. Confusion is the first sign/warning of a Satanic attack- and Confusion certainly reigns in the minds of those who hate God and his believers . Every Christian has an obligation before his Creator to speak truth no matter the cost and pray and fast that we turn back to…
Why is it that what is so obvious to Cardinal Sarah, “The Truth”- “All manner of immorality is not only accepted and tolerated today in advanced societies, it is even promoted as a social good,” is so denied by the west? It seems clarity is reserved for the impoverished and persecuted.
Yes James we live in a world where good is seen as evil and evil is seen as good. Jesus spoke of these end times when people would not be able to see right from wrong. But don’t despair James for the hour and day of our Lord Jesus Christ King of Kings Lord of Lords True God and True Man is very near. The only thing that’s holding him back is that the wicked one or man of sin has not yet been revealed to the world. Once he is revealed the wicked one will rule for 42 months and only then will Jesus come as a thief in the night. What a glorious time to be alive in the history of mankind. Soon James soon!
God bless wonderful Cardinal Sarah– he would make a great Pope! Anyway– today, Thurs. May 19th, the Oklahoma State Legislature passed a bill making it a felony for any doctor to perform an abortion! This would add to a law already in effect, in which it is a felony for any NON-DOCTOR to perform an abortion! Now, the bill is before the Oklahoma governor, Gov. Mary Fallin, to sign! Hope she signs it! I made a phone call and sent an email, at her office, to support the bill! Also, the Oklahoma state Legislature passed a second bill, requiring that all Oklahoma schools provide instruction in the development of the pre-born child, and teach the kids respect for a child’s life, from the moment of conception.
I will add something, to my above post. It is a good idea, for everyone to contact Gov. Fallin’s office, and show your support for the two pro-life bills! Also, I don’t know how the IMMORAL Obama Administration and Justice Dept. may react, with the current Supreme Court 1973 Roe vs. Wade decision, and one lone state— Oklahoma — outlawing abortion completely. I don’t know how the legal challenges might go. But this is just WONDERFUL news! BRAVO, BRAVO, BRAVO, COURAGEOUS Oklahoma!!
re james rizzotto’s comment on clarity reserved for the impoverished: one of the gifts of the true west to africa came in the form of archbishop lefebvre whose hand helped shape the part of africa cdl sarah hails from. benedict xvi is alleged to have stated that lefebvre was one of the most brilliant theologians the 20th century saw. i’ll look for the sourcing of that quote and try to get back to comments to report.. the riches of western theology were received and well stored in the hands of the poor/
Archbishop Lefebvre was noted for his excellent missionary work, to the people of Africa, when stationed there. He was a faithful teacher of the Catholic Faith, lifelong never wavering! He had the greatness of his religious state, in the Church, as an Archbishop– yet, he also had the love, simplicity, and absolute, trusting faith of a child, towards Christ! Who knows– I always thought that Lefebvre may be declared a Saint– and a martyr, too, of the Church, someday!
“I am black but beautiful, O ye Daughters of Jerusalem, as the tents of Cedar, as the curtains of Solomon,” from the Canticles of Canticles (Song of Solomon) 1:4. That is what I think about when I hear the words of and see Cardinal Sarah.
Mother Teresa said something similar at the 1982 Commencement address at St. Thomas Aquinas College in Santa Paula. It’s worth a watch at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LxQ8mITyYzA
I think my home state North Dakota has essentially outlawed abortion. South Dakota also had outlawed it too; but I am not sure whether a US Supreme Court ruling overturned them. Hopefully the last abortion clinic there in North Dakota has been shut down. Chalk up hopefully 3 states for the respect for human life, that is all-colors of human life matter.
Indeed they do. As the children’s hymn says, “Jesus loves the little children, all the children of the world. Red and yellow, black and white, Jesus loves the children of the world.”
A correction: The children’s hymn says, “Jesus loves the little children, all the children of the world. Red and yellow, black and white, they are precious in his sight. Jesus loves the children of the world.”
The Church is in a free fall decline. Unfortunately, the more she falls, the faster she falls. Look at any diocese. Things are much worse off now than 10, 20, 30 or 40 years ago. Catholics now act and behave as most pagan Americans do. One cannot tell Catholics apart. Many are supporting Hillary or Bernie, most are for birth control and abortion. Very tragic. Ave Maria Purrissima !
