Pastors, politicians and families gathered outside a church preschool in San Diego County to protest against California shutting down the school for violating the state’s COVID-19 mask mandate. The church claims it’s being targeted by regulators.
Foothills Christian Church Preschool in El Cajon was a scene of protest Friday as Republican State Sen. Brian Jones, the city’s Mayor Bill Wells and area pastors gathered along with parents to protest the state’s decision to close the school for not masking the 3 to 5-year-old children.
Additionally, preschool director Tiffany McHugh was suspended from working with children.
The preschool, which has been shut down by the California Department of Social Services Community Care Licensing since Dec. 10, has over 100 kids and has been in operation for six years.
David Hoffman, who senior pastors the church with his brother, Mark, claimed during the demonstration that state representatives visited the daycare over 11 times in the last several months. The visits began after a complaint from a parent.
“Our church used to have a great preschool here,” he said. “We had over 100 students, and we had a waiting list … so large that we were in the process of expanding our preschool.”
“Several months ago, this church, this preschool became a target by the Department of Social Services. Basically, what it boils down to is they were not happy with how many of our children did not have masks on,” he claimed. “They came here, they visited. They found a few other violations, which our director rectified in 24 hours. But the state kept coming back, 11 times. … Seven of those times were from 9 a.m. in the morning to 6 p.m. that night.”

Make them bring deputies and handcuffs…they have nothing to lose.
Unconstitutional. The error was ever giving Democrats government power to begin with. They can’t help abusing power because they are totalitarians.
Y’all know I’m a stickler about all things COVID, but I haven’t come across a single verified case of a preschooler spreading the virus. Now, with omicron which is 10x more contagious than COVID 1.0, that may change. But I can’t really figure out why preschoolers should be masked. They don’t really have the lung capacity to exhale large amounts. Some level of distancing, excellent hygiene and good ventilation ought to be good enough unless the data drives a different decision, seems to me.
You and me both (and I’m a veteran science teacher of older kids). A colleague once coined the expression “mass spanking” for overwrought responses from clueless officialdom (official-dumb?) in education. It must exist elsewhere. Policy allegedly based on data should change when the data changes, but for someone power it’s still March 2020.
Sometimes science takes a while: to generat, to interpret, to communicate. Not that those in power aren’t giving best intentions, but they can only expected to keep up with so much. Sometimes they aren’t cautious enough, sometimes too cautious.
Covid policy was never based on data. Where have you been? They’ve been making things up since the very beginning.
Remember “two weeks to flatten the curve”? They didn’t know what they were talking about.
And there’s no long-term data about the safety of vaccines. We’re about to find out the hard way the folly of mass-injecting a population with an insufficiently tested, immune-altering drug.
Every vaccine is immune altering. That’s why they work.
Most covid deaths aren’t caused by covid, they’re with covid.
Most covid hospitalizations aren’t caused by covid, they’re with covid.
It’s a flu. Get over it.
Wrong. The us has never had 850,000 flu deaths in 20 months. Never not even close. Stop denying reality.
YFC is 100% correct. Some very tragic cases are when both parents may die of COVID, leaving a family of young children orphaned. It is unbelievably true, but many times, patients in hospitals or nursing homes may get the flu, or pneumonia– and may die– while suffering and being treated for other serious illnesses!
flu– Why this horribly callous remark, “Get over it!” on a Catholic website? A case of nfluenza can be very serious. Illnesses of all kinds rapidly spread through preschools. Teachers and staff will get even sicker than the kids. An enrollment of 100 kids is worrisome. It is not recommended that very young children wear masks. Best to keep your kids at home, during the Pandemic. Often, patients who are sick with other serious illnesses, may get flu symptoms– and then die. No matter what– illness and dying are a great tragedy.
At our church, we always keep the sick and dying, and deceased, in prayer, especially when we have our daily Rosary. It doesn’t matter which illness takes a poor patient’s life. Illness and death are always a tragedy. The loved ones of the seriously ill, dying, and deceased, suffer greatly, and need lots of love,, support, and prayer. Catholics should all especially have a kind heart for the sick, suffering, and dying, among us, and their families. Those who are hard-headed, judgmental, egotistical and hard-hearted with beliefs about illnesses– and hardened to those who suffer and die, and their suffering families– are not of Christ, and they do not belong in a church at all.
Many people may not know, that influenza can spread like wildfire, among patients in a hospital or nursing home, worsening the situations of patients already suffering from other serious illnesses. This is a common issue in hospitals and nursing homes.
Thank you Lord for protecting “flu” and his family from the coronavirus. Thou hast answered our prayers. Keep protecting him and protect all. Please stop this scourge. Please convert all sinners. By the bonds of charity, we offer you all the sufferings in the world for the conversion of sinners and the spread of the Gospel and the relief of those who suffer persecution because they are Christians. We give thee thanks Almighty God for all Thy benefits and mercies. May the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen
