Next week, the California Department of Education will vote on a new statewide ethnic studies curriculum that advocates for the “decolonization” of American society and elevates Aztec religious symbolism—all in the service of a left-wing political ideology.
The new program, called the Ethnic Studies Model Curriculum, seeks to extend the Left’s cultural dominance of California’s public university system, 50 years in the making, to the state’s entire primary and secondary education system, which consists of 10,000 public schools serving a total of 6 million students.
In theoretical terms, the new ethnic studies curriculum is based on the “pedagogy of the oppressed,” developed by Marxist theoretician Paolo Freire, who argued that students must be educated about their oppression in order to attain “critical consciousness” and, consequently, develop the capacity to overthrow their oppressors. Following this dialectic, the model curriculum instructs teachers to help students “challenge racist, bigoted, discriminatory, imperialist/colonial beliefs” and critique “white supremacy, racism and other forms of power and oppression.” This approach, in turn, enables teachers to inspire their pupils to participate in “social movements that struggle for social justice” and “build new possibilities for a post-racist, post-systemic racism society.”
R. Tolteka Cuauhtin, the original co-chair of the Ethnic Studies Model Curriculum, developed much of the material regarding early American history. In his book Rethinking Ethnic Studies, which is cited throughout the curriculum, Cuauhtin argues that the United States was founded on a “Eurocentric, white supremacist (racist, anti-Black, anti-Indigenous), capitalist (classist), patriarchal (sexist and misogynistic), heteropatriarchal (homophobic), and anthropocentric paradigm brought from Europe.” The document claims that whites began “grabbing the land,” “hatching hierarchies,” and “developing for Europe/whiteness,” which created “excess wealth” that “became the basis for the capitalist economy.” Whites established a “hegemony” that continues to the present day, in which minorities are subjected to “socialization, domestication, and ‘zombification.’”
The religious narrative is even more disturbing. Cuauhtin developed a related “mandala” claiming that white Christians committed “theocide” against indigenous tribes, killing their gods and replacing them with Christianity. White settlers thus established a regime of “coloniality, dehumanization, and genocide,” characterized by the “explicit erasure and replacement of holistic Indigeneity and humanity.” The solution, according to Cuauhtin and the ethnic studies curriculum, is to “name, speak to, resist, and transform the hegemonic Eurocentric neocolonial condition” in a posture of “transformational resistance.” The ultimate goal is to “decolonize” American society and establish a new regime of “countergenocide” and “counterhegemony,” which will displace white Christian culture and lead to the “regeneration of indigenous epistemic and cultural futurity.”
This religious concept is fleshed out in the model curriculum’s official “ethnic studies community chant.” The curriculum recommends that teachers lead their students in a series of indigenous songs, chants, and affirmations, including the “In Lak Ech Affirmation,” which appeals directly to the Aztec gods. Students first clap and chant to the god Tezkatlipoka—whom the Aztecs traditionally worshipped with human sacrifice and cannibalism—asking him for the power to be “warriors” for “social justice.” Next, the students chant to the gods Quetzalcoatl, Huitzilopochtli, and Xipe Totek, seeking “healing epistemologies” and “a revolutionary spirit.” Huitzilopochtli, in particular, is the Aztec deity of war and inspired hundreds of thousands of human sacrifices during Aztec rule. Finally, the chant comes to a climax with a request for “liberation, transformation, [and] decolonization,” after which students shout “Panche beh! Panche beh!” in pursuit of ultimate “critical consciousness.”
The chants have a clear implication: the displacement of the Christian god, which is said to be an extension of white supremacist oppression, and the restoration of the indigenous gods to their rightful place in the social justice cosmology. It is, in a philosophical sense, a revenge of the gods.
California parents should be concerned. Under the guise of “equity” and “empowerment,” activists within the public education system have developed this radical new curriculum in order to transform California schools into factories for left-wing political activism. They have recast the United States as an oppressor nation that must be deconstructed and subverted through politics. The curriculum’s vision statement makes this aim explicit: it presents education not as a means of achieving competency, but as a “tool for transformation, social, economic, and political change, and liberation.”
The religious element of the ethnic studies curriculum, with direct appeals to Aztec gods, is almost certainly a violation of the First Amendment’s Establishment Clause. Public schools are prohibited from leading state-sanctioned Christian prayers; they would presumably be similarly prohibited from leading state-sanctioned chants to the Aztec god of human sacrifice.
The state board of education will vote on this curriculum next week. Any sane governing body would reject it wholesale. Given the nature of California politics, though, the board is likely to pass it. The best hope for opponents is to strike out some of the most galling material, such as the chants to the Aztec gods, and then devise a long-term strategy to push back against the public education establishment. For now, the activists appear to be driving the narrative—and they will not stop until they have solidified their “counterhegemony.”

This seemed clearly demonic to me. So, I checked with the nearby priest exorcist and he confirmed that this is definitely demonic.
Let us cry to the Lord for mercy and seek the intercession of the Saints and angels, especially Our Lady of Guadalupe, St. Michael, St. Juan Diego and St. Junipero Serra.
We should also warn parents of students in public schools about this grave matter.
And, may the Church publicly repent of Pachamama idolatry on the part of some of her members.
We already consecrated and reconsecrated the state to Mary. Why don’t you ask the Archbishop when that’s going to show some fruit? Nothing has improved. Why not perform an exorcism on the whole state? And when that doesn’t help, what will the bishops rely on or say then? The bishops have no clue about what to do.

They don’t even need to teach the Bible, in their classes– just the ancient Biblical truth that warm, welcoming, acceptance and brotherly love for all, must prevail in a society, not prejudice, petty quarrels and hate. Good Manners towards all are very important, and must be strongly stressed, along with respect for teachers and other adults, guiding the students.
Subversive liberal crackpots– including Communists, socialists, unstable, goofball, liberal college professors, troubled writers, entertainers, beatniks, bums, and hippies, have all been busy attacking America for many years, and in many different eras. In past eras, they were correctly viewed as unstable, immature, immoral, troubled loners and misfits, instigating trouble– self-described, anti-society “outcasts,” on the fringes of society. They were not taken seriously, and sometimes had problems with the law. Today’s troubled era takes such people far too seriously.
For a society to function well, grow and prosper, you need a culture of good, law-abiding, responsible people, who are stable, mature, and live by traditional values, and are morally decent. Traditional marriages of one man and one woman, normally with children, in a good, solid, stable family home, is the core of a culture and civilization. “Boring old normalcy,” and good, responsible lives of respectable citizens, always keeps good societies stable and thriving, along with economic prosperity– guided by our blessed, Judeo-Christian Biblical principles. The sensational, immoral, irresponsible “Hollywood tabloid” or “Rolling Stone magazine,” anti-society, immoral, misfit way of life, destroys individuals, families, communities, countries– and whole civilizations!
Parents should never allow their kids to listen to sick, subversive, immoral, irresponsible, anti-society, Satanic misfits and crackpots, who preach that kids should “hate” their parents, teachers, clergy, police, and all “authority” figures, who are “evil” to them, in a “worthless,” “evil” society, that should be destroyed– and turned into a shameful wasteland of anti-Christian, barbaric filth, immorality, dope-addiction, sexual sin and perversion, juvenile delinquency, and crime.

There is an Aztec ritual which (no doubt) will be taught to our grammar school kids, for their (newly approved multicultural) education. This is the 21st century. This is our country, it has a wonderful and kind culture, which causes people everywhere to envy us, and then, fight to enter our country. It is important for us to continue to maintain, promote, and pray for our culture. It is good, decent, kind, honest,
and fair society. We should be immensely proud of our heritage, and fight to preserve it. And to Senor Tolteka, Sra Gabriella, and to so many other detractors of our country, and its history, a reminder: This is the first, and only, country, which first made the statement “All Men are created equal”. It was NOT done in a Latino country, or an Asian Country, or by native Americans. We need to fight like lions to preserve our culture, which first advanced the idea that we are all equal before God.

Kris, idolatry comes from all cultures. Read the Hebrew Scriptures, the Jews fell into it repeatedly and the nations neighboring them reveled in it. Our culture has our own idols. This has nothing to do with race. It has to do with idolatry, which is often demonic. Only God is worthy of our worship, our hearts and our lives. God alone created and redeemed us. Since you seem to view the world through a racial lens, look to Our Lady of Guadalupe, St. Juan Diego, other Latin American Saints and others from what you call “Brown” culture. They will point you and all of us to the one true God, Who has revealed Himself in Jesus Christ.

In Buddhist-dominated Myanmar (yellow race), the minority Rohingya Muslims have faced a terrible genocide. In many Middle Eastern and Eastern European countries, we also see horrific genocides of races and religions. China (yellow race) persecutes all religious peoples, especially the Muslim Uyghurs. The poor Jews (both a race and a religion) have faced persecution, even slavery, for millennia– and also, “bad” Jews like King Herod, etc.– tried to kill their own people– even Jesus! And indigenous peoples (red races) of the Americas, had battles at times, too! One of the saddest things to read about in history, is that in the ante-bellum era, before the Civil War, many free Blacks in the South established plantations and other businesses– and bought Black slaves to do the work for them! Will the curriculum point out that there were an estimated 20,000 human sacrifices a year in the Aztec religion?
We already have “Human Sacrifice” in the abortion mills. Call me old fashioned, but I’m still amazed at the ignorance and twisted thinking of these people who pervert history (and other things) to elevate their own privilege and depravity. It seems that this man has no inferiority of intellect but rather a deep rooted resentment of a particular ethnic group, much like the paper hanger with the funny mustache from Austria who lied his way into power in Germany with his band of thugs in brown shirts. Hopefully Tolteka Cuauhtin’s ideas will end up like those of the worshippers of Adolph, Stalin and Mao. We can pray for his conversion personally, as that’s the most loving thing we can do for him.
Two thoughts:
1) It is true that America was founded by Europeans who did everything they could to convert indigenous people to the Christian religion, took their land, force-marched them from their homes to reservations, etc., but …
2) This is crazy stuff they are proposing for our schools.

Our Founding Fathers always wanted Freedom of Religion, not Freedom from Religion which is how it has been reinterpreted by the current generation.
Marie, the First Amendment to the Constitution states, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;” The Founders wanted to make sure that the country never had a “state religion,” as well as having no power to thwart the religion of folks. The latter was more true in its writing than in practice. The Preamble of the Constitution states, “We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty.” Most of the Founders were Deists, not strong Christians. You can see that in the Declaration of Independence where it talks of Nature’s God. It would be inaccurate to assume that the Founders wanted people to be Christians. That is why nearly every religion in the country is protected by Article One. So, when someone talks about prayer in school, for example, one should never assume that it will be a Christian prayer.

Obviously, as Christians, we cannot worship false Gods. You cannot send your kids to school that day or your kids have to be told to not do it. Go to Catholic or Christian schools or homeschool.

Regarding my last post, because of lack of space I got the god Huitzilopochtli (god of the sun) mixed up with the god Quetzalcoatl (feathered serpent, god of the moon). Also, a better word to use than the word “myths” for Biblical passages is the word “narratives”.
A good book to read on the whole subject is “Our Lady of Guadalupe, mother of the civilization of love”.
Many years ago in my fourth grade year of school, our teacher assigned the students the California Mission Project; every student had to present a project about a California Mission. This was a public school! One student’s project was about the music used by Fr. Serra during the Mass. The student brought in a record of beautiful music and taught the students a simple Gregorian chant. It was beautiful and fun!
So California students may not learn about St. Junipero Serra who protected the Indians from harm, but may learn about the Aztec gods to whom innocent children and adolescent girls were slaughtered and sacrificed.
