The following comes from a May 6 story on Ruthblog from the Ruth Institute.
Middle-school California kids, now you can be as sexually profligate as you want to be–and your parents don’t even have to know about it! The California Condom Access Project, run by the California Health Council, which is making condoms available for kids as young as 12 in an online, taxpayer-funded condom delivery service, has expanded their service to include San Diego and Fresno counties.
But it gets better if you keep secrets from your parents. If you visit this website, as many as 10 free condoms can be delivered in confidential packaging, along with lubricant and educational materials. And in California, teens don’t need parental consent to buy contraceptives.
Among 15-19 year-olds, San Diego County ranks second in chlamydia cases in California, and ranks sixth in gonorrhea cases. The state is rampant with STDs; syphilis cases zoomed 18% from 2010 to 2011, Chlamydia rose 5% and gonorrhea rose 1.5%.
The news of the expanded program follows Tuesday’s announcement by the FDA of their approval of sale of the morning-after pill to girls as young as 15.
Amy Moy, vice president of public affairs of the California Family Health Council said, “It’s really important that we all share with youth in our lives that abstinence is the most effective way to avoid sexually transmitted infection and unintended pregnancy. But we know that teens are engaging in sexual activity, and we just want to help them be as safe as possible and not keep our heads in the sand and pretend there isn’t a problem.”

So where is Abp Gomez’s public statement – advice to Catholic parents and families? Or is he too busy worrying about ILLEGAL immigration ?
When was the last time anyone was told fornication is a Mortal Sin from the pulpit in any Parish?
What does Abp Gomez recommend regarding Catholic taxpayers paying for condoms for children with their tax dollars?
Dave, you are absolutely right. Our pastors have been remiss on every front. The church has forfeited its moral authority by disregarding the church teachings that had been in effect since the earliest days. When humanae vitae was summarily dismissed the die was cast. The pill was Satan’s gift to humanity. The saddest thing is that no-one is willing to admit it.
California is run by wicked people, I am really regretting living here. This is definitely not a place to raise children. It’s no wonder parents have a harder time raising decent and God fearing kids here……I always thought that if I did the right things, raise my kids right and honored God that it would help but I am seeing that it is not always the case. There are too many good families torn apart because of the bad influences.
We’d all love to have our ranches and farms and small town life in the rural regions, but the jobs are in the “Great City”. Read Revelation to see a listing of these jobs. Then read the CCC to find out how the Church rationalizes … oops, I mean, explains how to work in the city without being part of the wickedness of it.
Yes SKAI I realize that but still regret living here….well actually….it is getting harder to get a decent job even here in California…..my sister moved to New York for a better job but actually is getting an offer from Danville, PA…which is a small town…I don’t know if it’s a liberal small town because I heard that even in small towns there are many liberals just like there is in Main….
Where is the “Bishops’ California Catholic Conference”?
What are they doing (with our forced donation money) to stop this encouragement of contraception, and to support abstinence?
What are they doing to insure Catholic taxpayer funds are not used for immoral purposes in CA?
What are they doing to teach families and children of appropriate age?
If your focus is on what really matters the most, which is salvation in Christ, then be prepared to be on the spiritual battle ground, defending what is right, be prepared not unless you don’t care..then enjoy being ignorant of what is really affecting our morals today.
Some have already caved in, but out of mercy, we can’t be angry at them for feeling powerless, if we never felt like a speck before now we know we are, to us ordinary folks who hold no political power or have no money or any power to make positive influences…..but we do have our prayers, for whatever reasons we don’t see results, we hope that at least sooner or later our Lord will pity us and send us the help we need to stop this kind of nonsense. We are a few but with love, we pray.
Well said. When I discuss these stories with concerned colleages that are by and large non Christian, I emphasize the necessity that parents stand up for their rights to determine how their children are raised and educated. Some may shrug and say, “meh, what can you do?!” but many nod and agree. It’s a starting point for more discussion. Shockingly, for me, many parents don’t even realize that they as parents have God given rights and responsibilities. And, it is entirely appropriate to challenge these types of intrusions.
I am often comforted and consoled by mine and my famililes sacramental confirmation as militant soldiers of Christ. The holy spirit is sealed within us and strengthens us for JUST THESE BATTLES.
AMEN keithp!
What was Cardinal Mahony doing while all this was going on? What are the Bishops doing about? The answer is – NOTHING They should all be made to retire and sent to monasteries – and new ones appointed by Pope Francis. God help us all.
amy, the answer to your question of what was Mahony doing … nothing … is not “nothing”. He was making it happen. Why is it so hard for people to see what he has done, and continues trying to do? It wouldn’t be exaltation of bishops and the worship of them, would it?
You are right Skai. By pretending to do nothing, and by transferring around abusive Priests – Mahony was actually an active party to the evil.
Mahony allowed the evil to continue, spread and fester.
Mahony had the authority to stop the abuses within his own Diocese, and purposely chose not to stop anything. This was a willful act on Mahony’s part.
Like Jodi Arias, he blames everyone for his sins but himself.
CCC: ” 1868 Sin is a personal act. Moreover, we have a responsibility for the sins committed by others when we cooperate in them:
– by participating directly and voluntarily in them;
– by ordering, advising, praising, or approving them;
– by not disclosing or not hindering them when we have an obligation to do so;
– by protecting evil-doers.”
Every abusive sin committed by any Priest, that Mahony had knowledge of when he was head of the LA Diocese, – Mahony is also responsible for that sin.
Does anyone wonder why when Pope John Paul II, Pope Benedict, and now Pope Francis ask us all to read and study the
“CATECHISM of the CATHOLIC CHURCH, Second Edition”
which is 20 years old – that many US Bishops do not publically and actively encourage its reading?
Is it because they do not want us to know that they are NOT doing their jobs accurately according to Church teaching?
And want us to believe untruths?
These “Health Agencies” simply insist on increasing the incidence of STD with these free condom programs. There is no question about it and the stats bare it out. Free condoms equal a higher incidence of STD every where it’s tried.
Yes Louie and also it gives the immunization industry more money by them creating more bad immunization shots, falsely claiming certain preventative care. Many in which are created with Aborted unborn fetuses cells or what is the right terminology here? But I think you get what I am saying?
Its simply not good…..Lust complicates much more. These sins complicate things even more…
