The following comes from a November 16 Orange County Catholic article:
Bishop Kevin W. Vann, Bishop of Orange, has been elected by the California Catholic Conference of Bishops as its Secretary/Treasurer.
Edward “Ned” Dolejsi, executive director of the California Catholic Conference said: “Bishop Vann has shown a keen interest in public policy since he moved to the Diocese of Orange from Texas. He has been particularly instrumental in campaigns to promote mental health and opposition to legalized physician-assisted suicide, but he has been very help on a wide range of topics.” Dolejsi continued, “His increased role will bring energy and enthusiasm to the many critical life and dignity issues we face in California.”
Dolejsi expressed thanks to Bishop Richard Garcia, the former secretary/treasurer, who just finished six years of committed leadership and who will continue as co-chair of the CCC Restorative Justice Committee.
“California is blessed to have many fine leaders in people like Bishop Garcia and Bishop Vann,” Dolejsi said.
According to Conference’s website, this is the current makeup of CCC leadership:
Bishop Jaime Soto, President
Bishop Robert McElroy, Vice President
Bishop Kevin Vann, Treasurer
It just keeps getting better. Instead of getting a leader that is concerned with salvation, with continuing the re-opening of the Church to its own Tradition, and with advancing personal holiness, California gets someone with a “keen interest in public policy.” The Catholic Church in California does not need a policy wonk in a leadership position. It needs another Abp. Fulton J. Sheen.
It is time, dear Catholic Reader, to humble these feckless men. Stop giving them money. They have not done their job and do not deserve the rich, free ride provided to them by gullible Catholics.
I met sheen once and heard him at saint patricks cathedral on a good Friday, that era is over for good sheen was a once in a lifetime speaker, tv wasjust starting to become more popular as tv sets becamw cheaper, ewtn tries bu since groeschel is gone ewtn does not have the speakers to really inspire viewers
The California Catholic Conference is an abject failure and should be dismantled.
Bishop Vann has been “particularly instrumental” in “opposition to legalized physician assisted suicide”? Um, does the author know that physician-assisted suicide became legal in California in June? How “instrumental” could Vann’s opposition have been? It certainly wasn’t effective.
Why, oh why is money wasted on offices, staff, communications and meetings for the California Catholic Conference? What has the CCC done or prevented in California law that wouldn’t have been done or prevented by the Democrat supermajority legislature and governor anyway, without the CCC’s involvement?
Catholic Donations should be recycled through Catholic Workers and Businesses, making Catholic Schools Better and more affordable should be a major focus of this office and its investment / employment training.programs.
I also hope for full transparency regarding the homosex ephebophile infiltration and abuse scandal and its Financial as well as Personal Costs.
