The following comes from a June 1 story on Breitbart.com.
What same-sex marriage advocates won in the Illinois Senate on Valentine’s Day 2013 was just reversed. After weeks and months of hard work to accomplish what should have been easy, gay Democrat sponsor Greg Harris could not muster the votes, while Democrat Speaker of the House, Michael Madigan, did not even call for a vote to establish same-sex marriage in Illinois.
“Today a broad grassroots coalition of Illinois families of Faith of all creeds and colors took on all the Illinois political bosses from Washington to the Governor’s Mansion to Chicago’s City Hall who tried to pay back the homosexual community for their political support,” said Paul Caprio, Spokesman for the Coalition to Protect Children & Marriage.
Throughout the day, same-sex marriage proponents hammered the Speaker relentlessly, threatening to withhold support for his daughter, Attorney General Lisa Madigan, a gubernatorial hopeful.
Equality Illinois and other groups brought in celebrities and generated thousands of phone calls. Governor Pat Quinn pushed hard, purportedly offering back room deals to members of the Black Caucus. But under the leadership of former Democrat Senator the Reverend James Meeks and Bishop Lance Davis, black legislators pushed back.
Representative Monique Davis, when asked by the Sun Times if same-sex marriage is a civil rights issue, said, “Have they ever hung from trees? Were they ever slaves for 500 years? Then I don’t think so.”
“I don’t think (the issues are) equal… simple as that,” she explained. “African-American people have the same right to be conservative on issues that everybody else has.”
With Chicago Mayor Rahm Emmanuel, Obama advisor David Axelrod, Republican State Chairman Pat Brady, Republican Senator Mark Kirk, the Chicago media, and hometown favorite President Barack Obama lobbying hard for the measure, it was a stunning defeat.
The battle in Illinois began just before Christmas 2012, when same-sex marriage activists moved to call a vote during the holidays. Twelve family groups quickly formed the “Coalition to Protect Children & Families.” In an unprecedented act of cooperation, the Illinois Family Institute rallied thousands to the capitol and Family PAC made over 600,000 calls into legislative districts.
While pastors held breakfasts, the National Organization for Marriage gave financial support and provided expert testimony in Springfield with Dr. Jennifer Rohrbach Morse on the troubling side of same-sex marriage. Cardinal Francis George wrote and spoke with conviction against the proposal, as did Bishop Thomas John Paprocki of Springfield. Churches rallied and, in spite of the odds, to the surprise of Chicago media and the much better resourced gay gobby, pro-traditional family forces stopped the vote.
In the end, it came down to enormous pressure on twenty black Democratic legislators “I think after President Obama came out as a supporter of equal marriage there was a belief that it would be a no-brainer,” Representative Christian Mitchell said. “But I don’t think folks properly understood the influence and role of the church as it relates to African-American politics.”
Illinois is the first state to stop the gay marriage momentum since North Carolina in 2012.

I think this is just too great…obama came to Chicago to strong arm these people gangsta style into changing their minds and they held firm under terrific pressure. My brother sent me an email today that is very related to
this and if you have time, you might want to check it out…

concerning the right of black people to bear arms and the 2nd amend.
A black man who lived in Watts once told me that there were more firearms in the alleys there than any police force could ever muster.
Dana,
This is very good news. A friend of mine who works in social service with emotionally disturbed children recently had to sit through a homosexual culture meeting given by the state. Dana, These poor children are already at risk and emotionally compromised and the dark powers within the state just can’t shove this propaganda down the throats of even mentally disturbed children. It is so sad.
The speaker started to compare race discrimination with homosexual discrimination and my friend raised his hand and told the speaker that we need to be careful to not insult black people by being completely insensitive to the racial discrimination that black people have faced simply for the color of their skin. My friend told those in attendance, “Yes it is true that homosexuals have been cruelly treated and that is wrong but we have to be careful not be even more insensitive and insult an entire race by using their slavery and horrific suffering as a comparison. My friend said, “When a person enters a room, no one knows if they are homosexual but if a black person enters a room, you can see the color of the skin. ” I’m pleased to report Dana that the speaker agreed with my friend and two black people who attended the meeting thanked my friend for speaking up.
Many people have fallen for this very unjust comparison and it is extremely insulting to black people as these voters in Illinois have just proven.
We have to be careful not to aid and abet homosexual propaganda. I remember when pro;life people asked everyone not to aid an abet or fall into the trap of using the words “pro-choice.” because it helps the culture of death. Well the same thing goes for using this unjust comparison. We are not supposed to aid an abet the homosexual agenda which is also part of the culture of death.
I totally agree. How low can people stoop that they must inculcate their ruthless agenda even on these little ones. Unbelievable, to be honest. The producer of “Runaway Slave’, a black pastor, said the democrats were the slave owners now and groups like the ‘new’ NAACP are the masters’ foremen…I forget the word he used but it was a pretty powerful analogy. One of my favorite black spokes people is Alonzo Rachel…he’s so funny but so sharp and well-spoken. I watch his video essays on pj tv. Democrats always mock socially conservative Christian blacks and imply they’ve sold out. I wonder what is going to happen in secret this summer in Illinois? We need to uphold these few brave souls who stood up against intimidation and political pressure in prayer. This isn’t at all related, but have you been watching what has happened to John Behner? I think the gov’t has cloned him and replaced him with a heartless, souless robot. He is parroting obama like a strophic chorus…it’s rather scary, actually. Maybe they’ve brainwashed him?
Who knows what this gov’t is capable of. The reason there are always conspiracy theories is because there are always conspiracies, usually much worse than the gloomiest prognosticator can even imagine.
Sorry, Catherine…I left out ‘how could people STOOP SO LOW. Unfortunately, we know the answer to that. It was rhetorical, no? ;o)
Amen. Its not a sin to be born a color, but it is a sin for men and woman to be in a perverse relationship according to the the Word of God, the only Authority that counts Old and New testament. We just need what God has made clear from the beginning Love and Prayer.
Amen and “alleluja”!!!
There you go – let the posters who fire away at “Demoncrats” and the Mortal Sin of working with a party Other than Republican, condemn this.
None of us have condemned working with Democrats. I was one once. It is just that in the California most of the Democratic legislators are the ones pushing all the insane legislation. Of course, there are Republicans who are moral reprobates too, but the Democratic platform is worse than the Republican on the moral issues.
Working with democrats has been explicitly and repeatedly condemned by numerous posters in these pages. You won’t have to look long to find it as soon as the next social justice article is printed.
Working with democrats and BEING one are two different things. You can’t exclude a whole segment of society and have a united country. You might ask the democrats to reciprocate, however.
That’s true Dana. : )
Leave it to you Brian S to remind us…what did it accomplish? There is one big detail you misunderstood. If many who are democrat are liberal but a few do not want to dishonor God and His natural law, then it is our duty to help them even if we don’t agree with other issues.
Gay marriage is one of the non negotiable’s, so it is with great care that we can unite to help fight the good fight. Baby steps….I also know that more and more blacks are recognizing the evil that abortion is and maybe they will leave the Democrat platform as well, well that is our prayers. These Democrats have to recognize that they helped vote in Obama and that he is the one who is promoting many immoral agenda’s. Well that is if they care. Sooner or later they will have to see the error of their ways.
But in the mean time, there is power in numbers and joining to fight the good fight on strong issues such as this, well that is the right thing to do.. I think you may have discounted that fact and misunderstood many of the commentators here. Just saying. God bless.
Ms. Davis should remember that Mathew Sheppard was hung from a fence rather than a tree and lots of others have been murdered just for being gay or because someone thought they were gay.
“Sheppard was hung from a fence”: 4000 people starve to death each day, C&H. Drunk drivers kill 400 people each week in the USA. Andy you’re whining about what again?
At what death rate does injustice become worthy of note, Skai?
Brian S., reread what I posted to find out.
400 a week, apparently. How droll.
BTW, C&H, almost nobody cares to be reminded of the hype job over Sheppard. Let’s move on to socially important matters, ok?
How sad that you are trying to excuse murder. Wrap it in whatever language you like, the kid was murdered. Period. Now go find a conscience.
While wrongs have been committed against members of every group, the black experience in this country is unique for its historical breadth, scope, duration, and institutionalization.
In addition to that, it is at least possible to address compensations for those historical wrongs to those and to the descendants of those who suffered them, making those solutions at least logical. This is not possible in the case of homosexuality, as their descendants are indistinguishable from the population in general – any wrongs are as likely to have been done to the ancestors of straight as to homosexual persons.
As for Matthew Shepard, the men who killed him were tried, sentenced, and imprisoned. That was not done in the case of lynched blacks. Had it been, those lynchings would be less deserving of current consideration by the law.
Brian – I don’t think anyone would claim that just because there are parallels in the experience of descendants of slaves and of gay people, doesn’t mean that there experiences are identical.
For one thing, black people are always born into and usually raised by black families who support and nurture them. No black person is cast out of his house because she is black. Gay people are almost always born into and raised by straight couples. Oftentimes, those straight parents disown them and cast them out of their household rather than support them. Fortunately, this is becoming increasingly rare.
For another thing, the violence against gay people, while different than black people, is pretty intense. Please consult FBI stats on hate crimes against gay people if you doubt me. Consult stats on trans people, and it will curl your hair.
For a third thing, slaves, like gay people, were prohibited from marrying. As soon as those slaves attained liberty, they flocked to marry, even though they too were “changing the definition of marriage”. Guess what….so are we!
The men who murdered him are in jail or on death row. Stop the nonsense C&H.
C&H… to compare the civil rights of black americans with the “rights” of gays is longest running modern joke. Just try and spin that story to some of the black guys I know, they would put you in your place….
I’m black and I think it’s a great comparison. Wrong is wrong. Injustice is injustice. A wrong against anyone is a wrong against everyone. By the way, a famous black guy said that.
C&H, killing is wrong. “Thou shall not kill.”
Christians have been killed and persecuted for their Faith since Christ, and it still happens today in parts of the world.
Slavery still takes place in various parts of the world.
Read the “Catechism of the Catholic Church, Second Edition” for knowing the TRUTH of what the Catholic Church teaches.
We should never TOLERATE mortal sin.
Mortal sin (without repentance) sends Souls to HELL.
You do not love your neighbors if you tolerate their mortal sins.
CCC: ” 2396 Among the sins gravely contrary to chastity are masturbation, fornication, pornography, and homosexual practices. ”
Same-sex marriage is the practice of SODOMY.

Pete,
Sorry to say, but quoting scripture to these people is just not going to cut it. Most of us have quoted Scripture and Marian Apparitions to them. They won’t listen because they are blind in their SINS and they have accepted Satan’s in the guise of priests and religious lies!
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
Kenneth M. Fisher
Pete I consider quoting scripture as another form of exorcism. The devil hates it so we quote. God bless you.
We can pray it over those who object and offer it up to our Lord for their salvation and ours. Anyhoo they won’t go in vein and while some ignore the word of God, may of us who can benefit from the reminder of those precious words from our Lord’s holy book. : )
Most know the story of Matthew’s Shepard’s gruesome death from MSM where the motive given for his murder was solely because he was gay. This gave rise to national awareness and helped move forward hate crimes legislation.
In 2004, however, the prosecutor of the two murderers stated,”The real story is not what it seems.”
In November of 2004, Elizabeth Vargas of ABC 20/20 news magazine, in an effort to uncover the truth of what actually happened, made a credible report that sorted out many lesser known facts on the case. The findings point to murder, but not because the victim was targeted for being gay: this was not a ‘hate crime’ as defined, as many believe.
Vargas reported among other things that “Shepard was murdered by McKinney and Henderson, not because of an anti-gay sentiment, but because McKinney was high on methamphetamines, giving him unusual violent tendencies as well a need for more cash” and “the prosecutor never believed it was a hate crime . . . he believe(d) it was a drug crime.”
Matthew Sheppard’s murder was a grave crime and the perpetrators have been punished, receiving two consecutive life sentences. The entire news report, “New Details Emerge in Matthew Shepard Murder” ABC News, November 26, 2004, can be found online.
The true facts about why he was murdered should be more widely available and better known. The logical conclusion about this case, then, will speak for itself.
What a great post, Mary and thanks so much for taking the time to share the truth. I had read this myself some time ago, but didn’t feel informed enough to write about it. You did it clearly and succinctly. It was indeed a drug crime, but homosexuals tend to think that when something happens to one of their own, it was because of his sexual preference since that colors every waking thought of their entire lives from what I’ve gathered on this web site. When you base your entire life on your sexuality, what else is there? You’ve then become a ‘gay’ Catholic, a ‘gay’ banker, a ‘gay’ American. It’s positively gothic!
C&H stop the mind control…right is right and wrong is wrong…I know you are accustomed to it being right is wrong and wrong is right.
God bless these pro traditional family people. God bless them all.
Well, here’s hoping that this post makes it past the CalCath censor bureau; God bless the Black Catholics and Evangelicals in that hotbed of thuggery, Chicago, that toddlin’ town. And apparently they all pretty much said: “DOWN WITH GAY MARRIAGE! DON’T WANT IT, DON’T NEED IT!” Is a tide of resistance to the grotesque monstrosity of “g/marriage” in it’s infancy, starting in the “toddling town?” Let’s all pray so. (OmiGod, what’s Mark from Pa. gonna say? everybody duck!) Meanwhile, Pope Francis says there’s a “gay lobby” RIGHT IN THE VATICAN! WOW, WHO KNEW? Actually, probably only the “low information voters,” those who popped Obummer back into the W.H. in ’12, didn’t know. I’m sure many who post here on this site knew of it. I’m pretty sure it’s been an ‘open secret’ for years. The diseased tentacles of the gayreich homo lobby are pretty much everywhere these days. But maybe NOT in Moscow, Russia. Their legislature is pretty much NOT down with homogayness, and Putin has vowed to sign ANYTHING which will deprive the homogays of their “legitimacy” in Russia. Kudos to them for that. But whadda you mean, Markrite? Aren’t the Russians in general kinda REALLY MEAN to gays? Maybe. And maybe the homogay Wehrmacht kinda brings such treatment down on themselves by their shrill petulancy. Just saying. GOD BLESS EVERYONE, MARKRITE
God bless the Russian Orthodox too. They are men among men.

Even in far flung liberal California…the voters were against the proposition that would have granted “gays” the right to marry…it’s a shock to any man’s sensibility, c’mon…be serious…a license to sodomize, what next?
What a change in 50 years.
In 1963, the non-Catholic governor of Illinois, Otto Kerner, appointed a non-Christian millionaire, auto-parts industrialist and art connoisseur Arnold Maremont, to chair the Illinois Public Aid Commission, successor to an Emergency Relief Commission created in the Depression.
Maremont was adamant that contraceptives be provided at State expense, explicitly targeted at African-Americans, first in the Chicago area, with plans to go statewide later. In this he was resolutely opposed by Catholic lawmakers—a majority of whom were Democrats—who passed legislation in the Springfield statehouse outlawing the plan.
But defeat was suddenly snatched from the jaws of victory (to mix up a metaphor) when, after a confidential meeting in the back of a proverbial, black limousine between a high official of the Archdiocese of Chicago and a population-control official, the Church inexplicably okayed Maremont’s plan.
Confused Catholic lawmakers went along with this stark reversal of the continuous course of Church teaching since the beginning. Today, two generations after the detritus of the sexual revolution has settled down, the proportion of European-American children born to single mothers stands at about 40%, the same as the rate of non-marital births during the 1960s to African-Americans. Thus we see that, in the treatment of our society’s less privileged members, “what goes around comes around”.
We might expect that members of ecclesial communities who have departed from the Catholic fold would fall for this, especially after the confusion sewn by the 1930 Anglican Lambeth Conference permitting contraception within marriage Adobe Acrobat file .
But in acquiescing to the spirit of the age—an evil spirit, as Pope Paul VI warned—officials of the Archdiocese of Chicago shirked their duty and paved the way for the organized and coordinated dissent on the part of 600 Catholic “Theologians”—many of whom weren’t theologians at all —against Humanae Vitae, the Church’s 1968, authentic reiteration of its ancient, ordinary magisterial teaching on the inviolability of the transmission of human life in the marital embrace. The Chicago Archdiocese’s arrogant cowardice would bear bitter fruit a decade later, in the Roe and Doe decisions which have cost the lives of more than 50 million American children.
Sorry about “Adobe Acrobat file”. Search for “Little Lost Lambeth”. (Envoy, Sept/Oct, 1998. Steve Kellmeyer.)
Lambeth was a fleece job.
Thank you, Rod McKuen, for your wise remarks. It is good occasionally to review the events of the past that have led us into this depressing situation. Humanae vitae was torpedoed and our bishops provided the lubricant to grease the tubes. We are where we are because of malfeasance at the highest levels in our hierarchy. Our shepherds have failed us for four decades. Humpty Dumpty is broken. When was the last time you have heard the words “birth control” emanating from a pulpit? I rest my case.
Stop all this non sense….what are you and Rod ranting about? How do you sleep at night, sleep in the past…..today is today….lets get with it and make a better difference. 25 years from now, you’ll have our youth (which will be older then) ranting about what your didn’t do today to make this a better world morally in Christ…that is if our Lord will allow another 25 years to it’s existence.
Only our Lord knows…He is in control…we have no power over yesterday but today we do and can but tomorrow God only knows.
Rod,
Wasn’t what you wrote about the Archdiocese of Chicago under Bernadin Mahony’s buddy?
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
Kenneth M. Fisher
Joseph Cardinal Bernardin didn’t molest seminarian Steven Cook, and just to prove it, he paid him $3 million.

Of course, this victory will be short-lived. The Democratic party will find new candidates to win the seats of those who refused to go along. Those that stood here did it surely understanding that their political careers will be ended by it. The greater their courage for that.
Only by the grace of the Holy Ghost did enough of these legistlators see the light and have the courage to stand up against the devil’s ways and temptations. Thank goodness for those good Christian heterosexual people who rallied, stood up in desperation against the evil against all odds and ridicule, prayed for and phone called the legistlators. These Christian heterosexual people have a right to be proud for doing good and knowing on the day of their day of judgment they have this merit in their record very pleasing to God. May God bless them with more courage and perseverence to fight the devil’s evil running so rampant today tearing down society and the Church. Pray the rosary daily for restoration of the true Church.
If only Cardinal Dolan had mounted such a defense of True Marriage in NY State, perhaps he too could have prevented the propagation of the homosexualist agenda in that state as well.
Outstanding. Now they will have time to dust off and read the Second Amendment. Or is that too much to hope for ?
DHS is confiscating all the ink from all copies of the Second Amendment, and have contracted Chinese govt agencies to hack and rid cyber space of all mention of the Second Amendment.
What victory? Since June 1, 2011, couples have been able to enter into a civil union in Illinois. Equal marriage in Illinois is simply delayed . . . . until November.
Correction peter, when you write “equal marriage” the correct spelling is “equus marriage” (“equus” is the name of the genus that includes donkeys and asses).
hey skai good one
God Bless Cardinal George and Bishop Paprocki
God Bless all the wonderful families who stood up and said NO!
God Bless all the legislators (representatives of the people) who did not CAVE IN to the current insanity. They will be richly rewarded in heaven.
California–let’s not cave in. Prop 8 — our united voice of reason.
Sandra,
In Taxifornia our voices of reason were squashed by one sick homosexual “judge” and the equally sick “Catholic” governor and the State Attorney General!
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
Kenneth M. Fisher
Two more Catholic names to add to the list of catholics who act contrary to their church teachings in important public matters. Has the catholic hierarchy ensured, countered in the press or taken any Cononical actin against these folks. I can’t recall any. I will add Brady and Quinn to the more famous national list including Cuomo, Kennedy (pick any) Kerry, Pelosi et al. Does the Ctholic Church in the US still have credibility? Can they give the true definition of Scandal. Very confusing to me. Not sure given our omissions where we really stand on abortion, gay marriage, gay conduct.
This is indeed encouraging news from the frontlines of the culture war. But what makes these people think that they have won this battle? The homosexual lobby will find a friendly judge to override the will of the majority. Blacks are voting democrat in obscene proportions. Until they drain the swamp and elect conservative politicians theirs will be a fool’s errand. The federal bench is overwhelmingly liberal. Until these left-wing progressive judges are gone, our cause is hopeless. Conservative judges are picked by conservative politicians. It is no more complicated than that. As long as socially conservative democrats don’t grasp this simple concept and continue to elect Obama’s minions, they will have to live with their choices.
Anton,
YOU GOT THAT RIGHT!
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
Kenneth M. Fisher
Blacks are even promoting the immigration bill which will completely give the hispanic vote dominance over what are now black precincts. It is very sad that they have tied themselves to a political party that holds them in complete and utter contempt. And you’re so right about the federal bench being liberal. We no longer have the right to vote, because whatever we may decide in the so-called ballot box will be undermined in the courts just as it was in germany in the ’30’s.
Blacks need a new political party. So do the rest of us.
need? now there is another subject that we can go on and on about…but what we need most is Jesus. I know you know this…just wanted to say with joy again. Jesus is our joy! Real joy.
The love of Jesus shine brightly over us all. May our sins not inhibit us from receiving His love.
