The following comes from an Aug. 31 story in the Los Angeles Times.
Kevin de Leon and Isadore Hall are both rated 100% by Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California and California Abortion and Reproductive Rights League.
California Democrats are calling on supporters in Hollywood and the Catholic Church as they push for climate change bills in the final two weeks of the legislative session.
Actress Halle Berry visited the Capitol on Monday and met with some lawmakers, such as Assemblyman Jim Cooper (D-Elk Grove), who have been on the fence about the legislation.
“Climate change is the most important public health issue of our time, and I’m proud to be able to lend my voice to this important cause,” Berry said in a statement. “I’m here first and foremost as a mother who has concerns about the environment we are going to leave our children and future generations.”
Berry was invited to the Capitol by Assemblyman Tony Thurmond (D-Richmond) and state Sen. Isadore Hall (D-Compton).
The legislation being considered, SB 350, would require greater energy efficiency in older buildings, more renewable energy generation and lower gasoline consumption on state roads.
State Senate leader Kevin de León (D-Los Angeles) held a press conference with Catholic leaders to talk about Pope Francis’ encyclical, which called for action on climate change.
Jaime Soto, the Sacramento bishop, said the bill “can set a high mark for other world leaders to follow.”
De León is considering amendments to the legislation that would help it pass in the Assembly, where it has faced skepticism from some fellow Democrats.
He declined to detail any potential changes.
“We’re engaging in very fruitful conversations,” he said.
If you lie down with dogs, you come up with fleas!
that’s what my grandmother said. Kind of. See my comment. hers was a little different but the message was the same.
What does Planned Parenthood or abortion have anything to do with climate change?
Seems like a bunch of hot air from CCD.
Both are founded on lies
Supporting well known PRO-ABORTION politicians in public –
“Worthiness to Receive Holy Communion, General Principles” – (Cardinal Ratzinger 2004 (Pope Benedict).

Photo-op with those who promote ABORTION or other intrinsic evils –
CCC: ” 2285 Scandal takes on a particular gravity by reason of the authority of those who cause it or the weakness of those who are scandalized. It prompted our Lord to utter this curse: “Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened round his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.” Scandal is grave when given by those who by nature or office are obliged to teach and educate others. Jesus reproaches the scribes and Pharisees on this account: he likens them to wolves in sheep’s clothing.”
Why haven’t Bishops Soto and Blair spent more time providing Catholics in their dioceses with catechesis so that they would know that divorce, contraception, abortion and living together before marriage are sinful and contrary to Catholic doctrine? How many men in their dioceses are enrolled in seminaries to prepare for the priesthood. Have they made it easier for children and adults to enroll in CCD classes?
How do you know that they haven’t done what you accuse them of? Your comments are not based on data, are they? Wouldn’t you agree that they issue they were discussing had to do with the environment?
My grandmother said ~ Tell me who your friends are and I’ll tell you what you are. Enough said!
These are Novus Ordo bishops what else would you expect?? Stop being shocked by these “bishops”.
This is a question! I would enjoy hearing what people think about the issue. Here we have a picture of two Bishops receiving a fairly innocuous proclamation from the President of the State Senate. The leader of the Senate is a Democrat and favors a “woman’s right to choose” which most all of us on this site disagree with.
Do folks believe that the Bishops should never, under any circumstance be in the presence of person who is pro-abortion? Should the Bishops be able to separate issues and still talk to “pro-aborts” as some call them? How does a Bishop get any influence in the Legislature if they don’t talk to the people in the Legislature? What do we expect from our Bishop’s as they work in the real world?
Bob One, I rewrote your posting:

Oh, well done, Jack. You picked just the right evil, too… liberals have been known to actuallly turn blue when racism raises its ugly head. (racism being an ‘inclusive’ term meaning anyone who doesn’t agree with them) Supporting the murder of babies and selling their body parts just doesn’t cut it on the horrendous crime scale. But even a trace of rrrrrrrrrrrrrracism you can see the liberals eyes glaze over with wrath and disgust . Murdering innocent policemen is also okay. Actually, murder, unless its of a movie star or left-wing politician usally gets short shrift by the liberal media. God help us.
JackG – For Bishops to talk to sinners in private is one thing, and good.
It is another to publically participate in one of their award ceremonies – especially when there is a photo-op for advertising purposes.
Great point, Leigh. Such photo ops send mixed messages.
If bishops could only meet in public with non-sinners, they’d have a pretty invisible ministry.
Jack G, interesting thought. But the issues is still the same. Should a Bishop ever appear in public, and/or receive a proclamation from a “pro-slavery” legislator? If they don’t meet with them on some issues, how do they influence? Must all meetings be private? Must they never meet with the legislator no matter the subject? Separating issues is hard to do. Gamille, for instance is upset that the Pastor didn’t mention abortion when he mentioned plastic in the ocean. For some, it is hard to separate issues.
BobOne – the answer to your question is “NO”.
A picture is worth a thousand words. The un-catechized which is the majority of Californians who call themselves “Catholic” will think it is OK to vote for Democrats and others who support: Abortion, Contraception, Euthanasia, Homosexual Acts and Sodomy Marriage, etc.
This public action causes grave SCANDAL.
Mac, you and I cause scandal every time we buy or order sea food in a store or restaurant, and any other hundreds of rules in Deuteronomy alone. Many things other than homosexual acts are called abominations. Interesting how everyone likes to quote a favorite verse from the Bible but ignores the others.
Sarah,
Stop being so sensible, asking such pointed excellent questions. Here is one more, how many ladies are postulants, novices, and nuns in their dioceses? Are there any convents left to shelter them and provide a religious life? What do their dioceses do to encourage religious vocations?
These two bishops, as well as many others, are Democrats first, and Catholics second. There care more about mammon than they do with saving souls. It is proof that the Catholic Church is shrinking, while other religions and atheists are growing. This scandal will also cause many Catholics to vote pro death instead of pro life.
Your headline on this article falsely demeans two Bishops who have spent their lives living and teaching Catholic doctrine and for you to do so is VERY wrong.
I think you should retract it and if you chose not to I must say goodbye.
Bishop Blair would probably retort: “I do. I need to work in the real world – as a gracious poster on Cal. Cath . Daily had put it. If the subject had been abortion I would gotten in the face of that legislature *person”.”
Understandable. But the problem with his defense is that climate change – as the Original Sin of our age – is not part of the “real world”. As presented by Pope Francis, Bishop Blair, Gov. Brown (and that gaggle of Sacramento legislature persons, climate change has no basis in fact.
Immigration and the environment. Pretty much the only time the bishops will take a stand on something. Homo ‘marriage’? Abortion? Pornography? Adultery? Cue the sound of crickets chirping. After all, can’t get on the bad side of our Democrat buddies.
Clinton, they’ve taken a stand on all these issues. You are just not listening.
Then why do the bishops only have photo ops with members of the Democrat party? Why is there more talk about abolishing the death penalty and next to nothing about abolishing abortion? The answer is that most bishops don’t want to make waves.
Both bishops, had they been alive a hundred years ago, would have been called heretics by Rome. These two pretend to be orthodox, but they are liberal. Blaire does not know the difference between mortal and venial sin (I heard it from his own mouth at a sermon he preached). Air heads and low informed Catholics always disagree when someone posts a traditional comment. Ave Maria Purrissima !
Jesusita,
Politically, Bishop Soto is probably a liberal. In regard to the Faith, do you have any evidence that he is not orthodox?
The true issue isn’t whether they sided with pro-abort politicians on global warming but whether they extracted concessions from the pro-aborts in exchange for their support on global warming.
That too, Steve Seitz, is a good and important point.
Jesusita, You hit the nail on the head on your comment one girl!
When are these Bishops going to start encouraging ALL literate persons in their Diocese to read both a Catholic Bible and the CCC at home?
When are they going to teach the Faith accurately and completely by doing so?
“….. let us ask ourselves if we have actually taken a few steps to get to know Christ and the truths of faith more, by reading and meditating on the Scriptures, studying the Catechism, steadily approaching the Sacraments. ” – Pope Francis , May 15, 2013.
Remember, as the saying goes the floor of Hell is paved with the skulls of evil Bishops!! This is a “quote” from St. Anathasius, St. John Chrysostom, and St. John Eudes. Being bishops, priests, Cardinals or monks, does not make them right, bad and evil exists everywhere, this also goes for bad Popes.
From what I have been told in confidence by several of my priest friends in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, the only reason Soto was named a bishop was because of his Mexican background. Blaire was named because of his very liberal stand on theological and political issues.

Because they are stressing social issues instead of moral and spiritual ones, most bishops are leading souls to damnation instead of salvation. When the 10 Commandments were taken out of schools and court rooms, immorality and sin became the norm. Ignorance is running wild, and political correctness reigns, while God is forgotten and Christ is mocked. It is the fault of the bishops that grace is not being made available for true conversions to the Catholic faith.
I agree that the bishops need to teach the 10 Commandments.
Additionally, we need a thorough examination of conscience source that includes modern day sins.
Bishops are commanded by Christ to preach and teach the truth. The bishops are guilty of not obeying Christ. They teach and preach falsehoods, and act as if they are agents of the Democrat party. Many of them voted for Obama and as a result are part of the major problem that is attacking traditional Christian morality. Most bishops would rather be politically correct than morally and theologically correct. Ave Maria Purrissima !
