Bishop Joseph Strickland of Tyler, Texas, has reiterated his opposition to vaccines created using cell lines from aborted babies in the face of UK bishops claiming that Catholics have a “duty to be vaccinated,” even if the making of the vaccine is morally problematic.
“I renew my call that we reject any vaccine that is developed using aborted children,” Strickland tweeted Aug. 1.
“Even if it originated decades ago it still means a child’s life was ended before it was born & then their body was used as spare parts. We will never end abortion if we do not END THIS EVIL!”
Strickland posted his latest comments on vaccines Saturday after the Catholic Bishops Conference of England & Wales stated last week that Catholics have a “prima facie duty to be vaccinated.” The document first noted a 2005 Vatican statement focused on the moral question of vaccines that have been prepared from cells derived from aborted human fetuses before stating their support for the idea expressed in a 2017 Pontifical Academy for Life statement that “all clinically recommended vaccinations can be used with a clear conscience.”
In April, Strickland released a pastoral letter asking faithful Catholics to join him in helping to bring to a “halt” any development of a coronavirus vaccine derived from aborted babies.
“Tragically, people are not aware of or have chosen to turn a blind eye to the advances in medical science which allow vaccines to be developed with the wholesale use of aborted children’s bodies,” he wrote April 23.
Strickland stressed that just because “the crime of abortion is considered legal in our nation does not mean it is morally permissible to use the dead bodies of these children to cure a global pandemic. Emphatically, this practice is evil.”
“As your shepherd,” the bishop wrote, “I urge you to join me, NOW, in passionately but prayerfully speaking out against this practice. As I said in the beginning of this letter, I will help you navigate this storm as best as I can.”
Many of the leading coronavirus vaccine candidates in both the UK and the United States are being developed using fetal cell lines that were originally derived from the tissues of aborted babies in the 1970s and 80s.
In an open letter published in May, Catholic clergy and laity led by former papal nuncio Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò and Cardinals Gerhard Ludwig Mueller, Joseph Zen, and Janis Pujats said that “for Catholics it is morally unacceptable to develop or use vaccines derived from material from aborted fetuses.”
The above comes from an Aug. 3 story on LifeSiteNews.
Bishop Strickland is boldly making the case for living out one’s Catholic faith in every age. Covid vaccines tempt the soul with promises of health and safety, when in reality, no such result is certain. What is certain is that abortion is always wrong and we cannot give a nod to the gods of child sacrifice and all their empty promises.
Our Catholic “prima facie duty” in this instance is found in the fifth commandment, “Thou Shall Not Kill”.
Once again, there are no babies aborted in order to make vaccines.
There is no fetal DNA in any vaccine.
You are not participating in abortion by utilizing any vaccines in America.
The earth is round.
Just because the Bible says God put a light in the sky and called it the Moon, doesn’t mean that the moon actually is a light.
The universe doesn’t revolve around the earth, and no one should be declared a heretic for saying that it is.
Charleton Heston did not literally go up on a mountain and have lightening inscribe a couple of carefully carved stones he happenned to bring up with him that day.
Yes there is climate change caused by the carbon dioxide humans put into the atmosphere
God bless Bishop Strickland. He is one of the few telling the truth about all this. I go to Children of God for Life. If they do not approve the vaccine, I will not use it. Not even to save my life. Don’t want any child to die to save me, and “Denial is not just a river in Egypt”.
No child will die because you got a vaccine, anne, got it?
It all depends on the vaccine and who makes. Stop trying to “gaslight” us.
Correction: who makes it.
So Anonymous, with nonsense like this, it’s no wonder you chose not to put your name to it.
Nonsense say you. Kristin who says nonsense. Nonsense is not saying what is nonsense about supposed nonsense.
By the way, Anonymous, I bought both my children world globes when they were young. I also say on television the first trip to the moon — when it actually happened, so implying I am a flat earth theorist is just laughable.
Correction: SAW on television.
This is going to drive more people away from the Church and invite anti-Catholic attacks on Church property.
Let me ask this: are there any churches or diocesan buildings or property that were built or acquired with donations from people who made their money sinfully? Yes, of course. So perhaps the Church should divest of anything that has any sinful taint whatsoever.
How much Kennedy family money made from bootlegging ended up in Catholic coffers?
The bishop’s moral analysis is flawed and inconsistent.
Finally, a bishop who tells the truth and asks the faithful to follow him. If one goes online and finds the “ingredients” in vaccines, most of which use fetal stem cell lines from aborted fetuses, you will be shocked. If you don’ know what an ingredient is, google that as well. I have turned down numerous vaccines because of these “ingredients”. If you have not as yet figured out that many of these so-called scientists (Bill Gates for one) do not have the population’s health and safety in mind, you have not been researching. There is NOTHING more important than our Faith and God’s Word – again, Thou Shalt Not Kill – including yourself and your children by taking these vaccines.
You are exactly right, Sheila. I did not take the shingles vaccine until they developed the Recombinant Zoster by Shingrix, which does not use the aborted fetal line, (first used testing on an aborted child’s body parts). The ethnical one comes in two doses & has been found to work much better than the unethical one by Merck. Each person knows his own body better than any government. I have never taken the flu vaccines, even though most seem to be from ethical sources, but I have not gotten the flu in so long I do not remember when last I got it. Zinc works for me. (to be cont.)
(Cont.) There is another thing, when I was a child in the early 1940’s my mother took me to the county to get my shots because my father was in the army. The first time they gave me the wrong shots, and I had to get a whole new series of shots (the right ones) again. I was very stoic through all of it and did not cry nor fuss until the very last shot. Then I screamed and hollered and made a total fuss because I had had enough of it. It also taught me that healthcare facilities can and do make mistakes. The Good Lord only knows with what they injected me the first time. Needless to say, I only take what is absolutely needed.
Anne TE, I do not take the flu vaccine either. I worked in a hospital, and these shots were given to everyone, so I took the shot and always came down with the flu. I decided to look into it and was horrified to find out it contained, among other things, thimerosol, which is a neurotoxin! That was eleven years ago, and I have not had the flu vaccine since and have never again had the flu nor a cold! In the winter, I take 1000 mg of vit C daily. I declined the shingles and the new pneumonia vaccine. Interestingly, my doctor said she understood my position and applauded me on my research that brought me to that position. Makes you wonder what doctors think of all these vaccines. My husband was a chiropractor, and chiropractors don’t have all these shots for their children. My children are very healthy! Thank you for responding. God bless!
If you’d like some information about vaccines and abortion, the National Catholic Bioethics Center provides some at
https://www.ncbcenter.org/ncbc-news?tag=COVID-19
In part, “Several vaccines in the past were developed using cell lines derived from the organs of aborted children. This is a clear violation of the respect due to the dignity of the human person. The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in the instruction Dignitas Personae stated in section 35 with regard to research on biological material of illicit origin: ‘Therefore, it needs to be stated that there is a duty to refuse to use such ‘biological material’ even when there is no close connection between the researcher and the actions of those who performed … the abortion…'”
Would you use a vaccine developed by killing a disabled veteran or a developmentally disabled child or a black person, even if they were killed quite a while ago?
Thank you for your reply and question, Deacon Anderson. The “gaslighting” of the public needs to stop, and you and Sheila most certainly have helped to do that.
I, too, have known for some time that everyone who takes the flu shots usually gets the flu at least once right after. My husband gets the shots, gets the flu, but I do not get it, although we are in the same house. I take vitamins as Sheila does. My healthcare providers do stress preventive care, although most give out the contraceptive pill and some probably do abortions. (to be cont.)
(Cont.) When I was a child, physicians were taking out children’s tonsils on a regular basis whether or not infected because they thought they did not need them. My grandmother refused to let our doctor take out mine. Many years later it was discovered that the people who had their tonsils had been less susceptible to getting polio, and if they had gotten it, they had less severe cases. It seems the tonsils are there to filter out certain things.
Thank God I never got it, but I did get the polio sugar cubes for my oldest child and myself and the shot for my youngest when they first came out.
There is one more thing that I do and did not mention. I try to get my throat blessed on St. Blaise Day in February. Last February I was unable to do it, so I made a novena to St. Blaise asking for his intercessory protection.
