Bishop Joseph Strickland told Pope Francis pro-abortion and self-acclaimed “Catholic” Nancy Pelosi should be denied Holy Communion.
In a July 4 tweet responding to Pope’s Francis’ criticism of denying pro-abortion politicians Communion, Strickland stated that denying pro-abortion U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is treating her with “pastoral care.”
“I thank Pope Francis for his clear message that abortion is murder & that politicians should be treated with pastoral care,” he tweeted. “Pastoral care for Mrs. Pelosi is to tell her that she should not receive the Body of Christ until she stops advocating the murder of unborn children.”
This statement comes after Pope Francis recently criticized denying Communion to pro-abortion politicians during an interview following the reversal of Roe v. Wade….
However, while Pope Francis did condemn abortion, he suggested that, “the Church loses its pastoral nature” when Communion is denied to pro-abortion politicians who profess to be Catholic and that, “it causes a political problem.”
Yes, and with President Applesauce Brains taking positive action to promote abortion, he should be formally denied Communion or excommunicated. It’s clear from his fumbled reading of the teleprompter script (he read aloud the instruction “read it again”) that he’s cognitively incapable of being the president.
It’s becoming apparent that Pope Francis does not possess, or perhaps never had, an acute intellect. Many of his bishops show a greater understanding of the doctrines of our Faith and of our sacred scriptures and traditions. It’s a sad state of affairs when bishops have to redress this Pope for moral ambiguity and indifference.
Axiom, I totally agree.
Your first sentence is 100% true!
This is just abuse.
Bishop Strickland cares about the woman’s soul, wonder what it is about her that Pope Francis cares for.
Bishop Strickland is an outstanding Catholic prelate! We need a pope like him!
This is why it never works. Exaggerations are lies. Nancy Pelosi has never advocated for the murder of unborn children.
Nancy Pelosi is pro-choice which means she believes the woman and her doctor should be the ones to make the decision. That is problematic for a Catholic.
But it is not advocating murder of unborn children.
Wrong. If you think the choice to steal should be left up to each individual, with no law prohibiting it, then you are advocating stealing. It is nonsensical to say that you oppose stealing but want laws making it legal to steal. Now apply that to abortion.
So by having a law that leaves religion up to the individual you are advocating for Satanism?
The free exercise of religion does not harm anyone, as does stealing and abortion. You’re making an illegitimate comparison. Allowing someone to choose their own religion, or no religion, does not involve infringement upon anyone else’s natural rights. If someone attempted to argue that their religion requires infringing on another person’s natural rights, that religion would not be recognized as valid. Think, man.
to NO exaggeration – Democrats just cannot face it – no matter how much they twist and turn, self backpat, writhe, gyrate, leap and tumble, assume grotesque poses of supposed wisdom and beauty, provide essays with their wonderful insight, speak with sonorous tones, act the role of powerful important unblemished politician, provide images of themselves wearing halos, wear crucifixes on all their suits and blouses, – Sorry, it’s still abortion.
“Nancy Pelosi is pro-choice which means she believes the woman and her doctor should be the ones to make the decision.” Ah…, the decision to do what? Oh yes, to murder their unborn children. Covering up the reality of the decision is the only real lie, and you “Exaggerations are lies,” are, well, most decidedly guilty.
The decision is to kill a baby, yes. That does not mean she is advocating for the killing of the baby.
To be clear, Nancy Pelosi’s stand on abortion is reprehensible but is is not advocating for the killing of a baby.
It is permitting the killing of a baby which is morally wrong.
You do not need to lie to make her look worse than she is. She is bad.
Most people in our country are both pro-life and pro-choice.
I am pro-life but sinning is not the way to get what you want.
Let’s get real! Nancy Pelosi advocates 100% the right of any woman to kill her baby at any time, no restrictions– and she does not advocate for the right to life of any unborn child. Our Catholic Catechism teaches that we must protect all human life, from conception to natural death. Those who facilitate (as Nancy does) or procure an abortion, have committed serious mortal sins, and should not receive Holy Communion.
Please give a source for what you said about Nancy Pelosi.
Nancy Pelosi has some reason for doing what she does that has nothing to do with the Church, obviously. I won’t speculate as to what they are as they are probably very personal.
Fr. James Martin criticized Bishop Strickland in a tweet today.
I think he just reposted something. He should not be spreading it.
This is why you don’t do social media.
You start off with good intentions of spreading the Faith and the Gospel.
Pride being what it is…it becomes about you.
And as everyone is a sinner…you end up spreading sin.
And that is always what gets retweeted and gets media or bloggers attention.
James Martin is a living breathing heretic
Not in the Catholic Church but celebrity priests always go off somehow.
In General, Murder is the unlawful killing a human being by another human being with malice.
California Penal Code 187(a) Defines Murder.
Murder is the unlawful killing of a human being or fetus with malice aforethought.
Sad as it is, in California abortion is legal, therefore killing a fetus by abortion, it is not murder in California
Det John, California standards are not at issue with the pastoral care of souls. There is a higher court at which all California politicians will one day stand before to give answer. And so shall we all.
I’m not a fan of Strickland but he’s right that you cannot be a Catholic and a Democrat. period.
He’s wrong. You’re wrong.
Says the guy who thinks two men can get married to each other and that a woman can have a penis.
“He’s wrong…” I assume, since the point at question is B. Strickland’s pastoral care of N. Pelosi, that you are of a different state of mind and take offense at his pastoral practice. Care to comment why?
Bishop Strickland is not Nancy Pelosi’s bishop. He has no pastoral care of her.
YFC is right.
Bishop Strickland did not say that. It is a little more complicated than that.
To be clear, Bishop Strickland has made no attempt in his diocese to excommunicate Catholic members of the Democratic Party.
Even excommunication does not make someone not a Catholic. One is Catholic by baptism and there is no way to undo that.
Bishop Strickland says things he should not, as a bishop, say.
Strickland did say it. Right here is the proof:
https://www.lifesitenews.com/news/bishop-strickland-echoes-priest-you-cannot-be-catholic-and-be-a-democrat/
It is a little more complicated than that. He tweeted on his personal twitter that he endorsed a video that said that.
I believe what he is saying is that it is inconsistent to be Catholic and a Democrat, which I agree with.,
But he has not as a bishop said that a Catholic cannot be a Democrat. If he said that as a bishop it would only apply to his diocese.
And, you can’t be a Catholic and be a Republican. We have a conundrum don’t we?
No conundrum because you’re wrong. Republicans stand for truth and morality. There’s nothing opposed to Christianity in that.
The Republican National Committee says that it stands for freedom, prosperity and opportunity.
Whether you can be Catholic and Democrat, I don’t know. But I do know that you can’t be intelligent and Democrat unless you are corrupt and cynically use Democrat voters and government power to enrich yourself and your family.
Strickland is an antivaxxer. Pope Francis needs to reassign him. Not good to have a bishop who shoots his mouth off like he does.
“Strickland is an antivaxxer.” And what, may I ask, does this have to do with his pastoral care of Pelosi? “Not good to have a bishop who shoots his mouth off like he does.” On what issues do you disagree with the bishop’s mouth? (besides covid care)
Maybe it goes to his state of mind and quality of judgment?
Are all vaccines the same?
Will Bishop Strickland provide this type of pastoral care to conservative, Republican politicians who claim to be Catholic and yet gleefully support capital punishment (consider former Attorney General Bill Barr who sped up the execution process prior to the 2020 election)? Pro death penalty politicians should be denied Holy Communion as well! Our Lord was a victim of the death penalty. One cannot be a Republican and also a Catholic.
Sorry, charlie. The death penalty is not an intrinsic evil. Abortion is.
Whether the evil is intrinsic or not is not relevant to this.
Capital punishment should never be equated with the crime of abortion. Referring to capital punishment, Pope Innocent III wrote, “The secular power can, without mortal sin, exercise judgment of blood, provided that it punishes with justice, not out of hatred; with prudence, not precipitation”.
The Church has not said that support for capital punishment is a reason not to present yourself for Holy Communion.
It also has never said that an individual who supports abortion rights cannot present themselves for Holy Communion.
Some bishops in the US have told legislators who support abortion rights not to present themselves for Holy Communion.
I know of no US bishops who have told legislators who support capital punishment not to present themselves for Holy Communion.
is that a “sacrilege-eating” grin
she is sporting?
You don’t eat sacrilege; you commit sacrilege.
The conservatives seem to be splitting hairs over the morality of abortion versus capital punishment. The facts are: capital punishment is state sponsored murder, the administration of capital punishment in the USA is unjust (innocent people have been put to death), and Jesus Christ, Our Lord Himself, was unjustly put to death by capital punishment! I do not care what any Pope said about capital punishment previously; the Catechism of the Catholic Church now teaches that capital punishment is not acceptable! Abortion and capital punishment are murder!
You have a few things to learn. Capital punishment is not murder: murder is taking innocent life. Capital punishment is the just punishment of a convicted criminal. The CCC does not teach that capital punishment is not acceptable; to be precise, Pope Francis changed the wording to say that it is “inadmissible” in the context of modern society and penal systems. “Inadmissible” is not a moral category. Hard to know what exactly it means. Modern Western societies are rapidly devolving, and it’s debatable whether life imprisonment actually does protect innocent members of society, without need for capital punishment. The Bible supports capital punishment. The universal, ordinary magisterium supports capital punishment in principle. The Church cannot and does not teach that capital punishment is intrinsically evil; therefore, you cannot say that it is evil in all circumstances because that would be to claim that it is intrinsically evil. If it is not intrinsically evil, then it is possible for it to be a moral choice in at least one set of possible circumstances.
This is a really bad explanation.
No. This is a very excellent explanation!
The definitions aren’t even correct.
The death penalty
2267. Recourse to the death penalty on the part of legitimate authority, following a fair trial, was long considered an appropriate response to the gravity of certain crimes and an acceptable, albeit extreme, means of safeguarding the common good.
Today, however, there is an increasing awareness that the dignity of the person is not lost even after the commission of very serious crimes. In addition, a new understanding has emerged of the significance of penal sanctions imposed by the state. Lastly, more effective systems of detention have been developed, which ensure the due protection of citizens but, at the same time, do not definitively deprive the guilty of the possibility of redemption.
Consequently, the Church teaches, in the light of the Gospel, that “the death penalty is inadmissible because it is an attack on the inviolability and dignity of the person”,i and she works with determination for its abolition worldwide.
