The following was posted on the San Diego diocese website on Aug. 25.
Msgr. Steven Callahan issued the following message this morning to priests in the Diocese of San Diego:
“Doctors at the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center in Los Angeles have informed us through Archbishop Gómez that Bishop Flores, while still dealing with some of the after effects of the stroke he suffered in April, is presently being treated for prostate cancer, the full extent of which is yet to be determined.
Priests and people should not try to contact Bishop Flores by phone nor attempt to visit him at this time. Bishop Brom and I will be going to LA to personally assure Bishop Flores of our prayerful support.
Please continue to keep Bishop Flores in your prayers.”
May God heal and strengthen Bishop Flores and give him all the graces needed for his spiritual benefit.
Amen. Adding my prayer with yours. Thank you for posting.
Bishop Flores is a fine man. I offer the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass each day with an intention for his healing and return to active ministry here in the diocese.
I will pray 4 him.
Cardinal Mahoney announced his prostate cancer diagnosis on June 5, 1998.
We pray for Bishop Flores this Sunday at mass. God bless him and heal him.
