Biden’s Department of Education has just released the text of a proposed new rule establishing priorities for grants in American History and Civics Education programs. That rule gives priority to grant “projects that incorporate racially, ethnically, culturally, and linguistically diverse perspectives.” The rule goes on to cite and praise the New York Times’ “landmark” 1619 Project, as well as the work of Critical Race Theorist Kendi, as leading examples of the sort of ideas the Biden administration wants to spread.
The programs immediately targeted by Biden’s new priority criteria for American history and civics grants are small. Once in place, however, those criteria will undoubtedly influence the much larger and vastly more dangerous “Civics Secures Democracy Act.” That bill would appropriate $1 billion a year, for six years, for history and civic education. Support for leftist “action civics” is already written into the priority criteria of the bill itself. I have argued that additional anodyne-sounding priority criteria in the Civics Secures Democracy Act — criteria favoring grants targeted to “underserved” populations and the mitigation of various racial, ethnic, and linguistic achievement gaps — would be interpreted by the Biden administration as a green light to fund Critical Race Theory in the schools. The new draft federal rule for grant priority in American history and civics education makes it clear that this is indeed the Biden administration’s intent.
The Biden administration’s interest in pushing Critical Race Theory on America’s schools could already be gleaned from the president’s repeated endorsement of the notion that America is “systemically racist.” Biden’s statements to that effect are actually cited in the new federal rule. It’s of interest as well that the new rule explicitly endorses the wave of woke Critical Race Theory currently sweeping through America’s schools. Biden’s new American history and civics rule also expresses support for “Culturally Responsive Teaching,” the ultra-woke and utterly politicized pedagogy derived from Critical Race Theory that was recently imposed on teachers in Illinois.
At this point, the sprinkling of congressional Republicans and conservative education establishment figures who have foolishly bought into bogus “bipartisan” efforts to revive the teaching of American history and civics need to repudiate their misbegotten alliances. We needn’t wait to see how the Biden administration will implement federal efforts to support American history and civics. This new rule tells us all we need to know….
The above comes from an April 19 story in National Review.
The Biden administration will not be satisfied until they create
a level of division so deep it will lead us to the precipice of another
Civil War.
This is why public schools are not opening. East Indians want their history taught; Each Native American Indian tribe want its history taught; Mexicans want their history taught; the English and Italians want their history taught; homosexuals and lesbians want their history taught; Christians, Jews, Muslims and Buddhists want their history taught, and on and on, and no one can agree on anything, and nothing gets taught.
Welcome to the Tower of Babel.
I thought schools were open. So something is being taught.
It is an expression for the constant changes and battling among parents, teachers, students, employees and administration. Add to that the unions and parental divorces where the children are batted back and forth from school to school, or country to country.
Biden is extremely ignorant, naive, and dangerous. Liberal garbage like Critical Race Theory will simply tear the country to pieces! Parents are already horrified over the crazy liberal trash being taught to their kids in the schools– as well as enraged further, as the schools are throwing out the traditional language arts, English, and literature curriculums, replacing it with new material that is filled with trashy violence, obscene language, and pornography– even in grade schools! America’s children are being destroyed by Satan! Hope Biden will be gone in four years!
School districts in Austin, TX, have been in the news lately, with terrible clashes with parent groups over tossing out traditional curriculums, and substituting lots of obscene, violent, pornographic “hippie filth.” The teachers don’t want to teach this filth, and they all want to quit! The educational leaders and school boards who are forcing this “hippie filth” on children– are extremely immature, immoral– and totally insane!
Not in my classroom, not on my watch.
Then you will be fired. If you are a public school teacher, and even if you are a private school teacher, you have a duty to implement the curriculum that your administration orders you to teach. Besides, why would you oppose a curriculum whose objective is to undo the inequities of past and current systemic racism in America? Why would you oppose enlightening children about the racism that has existed and currently exists in America? Opposition to antiracism curricula is de facto evidence of and a result of deep-seated racism. Opponents of racial equity will be rooted out and replaced with others who are willing and able to give our children the education that they deserve and that will create a just, equitable, diverse, open, inclusive, affirming, welcoming society that undoes all the evil of America’s white supremacist past. If you are not part of the solution in implementing this curriculum and building the new America, then you are part of the problem. I guarantee you that at the rate things are moving, those who are the problem instead of the solution will be taken care of swiftly.
No, Kris. Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King taught us all that there is only one way to combat racism– Love. Love is the only way. That is the holy teaching of Jesus Christ– “love thy neighbor!” All little children should be taught to love God and their neighbors, from the day they are born. I think you need to go to church on Sunday, Catholic or Protestant, take home a Bible, and study it.
There, you will find all the answers.
Do you know what the word groupthink means?
So you want diversity and openness, inclusivity and affirmation, justice and equity but without freedom of thought?
By what method are “those who are the problem instead of the solution” going to be “taken care of swiftly”?
Welcome to the new French revolution, Kris. I can see now how the reign of terror in 1793 -4 and the beheading of thousands of “counter-revolutionaries,” including monks and nuns could occur in the name of “liberty, justice and equality.”
But the French Revolution ended up “eating its own” with the ones who started the revolution beheading each other in the end, and the real Church surviving. So shall it always be.
You say things here that you would never say to a man face to face. I will not teach lies in place of truth. I will will not be a state agent implementing a new “Education for Death”. I will not serve as a means to corrupt the mind and hearts of my students.
I have taught in the public school system in California for 35 years. It will not happen in my classroom, but I know that it will happen in most. My advice to parents of school age children is find a “good” Catholic school or prepare to homeschool your children!
Stolen elections have consequences.
Anon, in 50 States, all the Territories, and Commonwealths, the 2020 vote counting was supervised by Republican and Democratic poll watcher, the tallies were certified as true, and the results sent to Congress for verification. Mr. Biden got more votes in more states than Mr. Trump and was declared the President-Elect. There was no stolen election, except in the mind of those who believe in QAnon, Newsmax, and other weird groups.
Anonymous…. I don’t think so but let’s wait until the first state, Arizona’s recount comes back. What is the Left so afraid of? The truth maybe and that massive voter fraud will be exposed. No evidence was examined, states changed their rules, windows were boarded up, counting was stopped and then restarted when liberals had the place to themselves, truckloads of ballots appeared out of nowhere, etc. I’m still laughing at the so-called claim that Republican poll watchers verified the results, you mean the RIONs and the massive ballot tampering? I see QAnon is the Left’s new boogeyman. How about the domestic terrorists Black Lives Matter or Antifa another terrorist group? Don’t want to go there? How about KKK Byrd, a Democrat and head of KKK and Biden admirer and head of the Democrat Senate for a long time. Let’s recount all the states that Trump won but were stolen by the deranged Left. What is the Left afraid of…..
Well said, Ronnie!
Clinton,
Biden is actually a puppet, much like Medvedev was for Putin. Our actual president is Barrack Obama. This knowledge gives much greater intelligibility to who is now running the Executive Branch and why Biden has become so radical.
It would explain susan rice , jen saki , and so many others , I don’t know if I agree , but all of this is not by accident .
Anonymous,
I developed this theory back in mid-Summer during the campaign. I couldn’t see how a man with early-onset dementia could run a difficult, national presidential campaign. Biden was Obama’s former Vice President plus I remember hearing that Obama didn’t leave Washington after leaving office. Obama assisted several campaign rallies for Biden and Eric Holder was tapped for ensuring that Democrats picked up seats and governorships in the state houses. Holder failed, of course.
I firmly believe this theory although I don’t have any hard evidence for it.
Early-onset dementia would mean that the person had symptoms before age 65.
Did you mean a person in the early stages of dementia?
Anonymous,
You can’t be certain with Biden since any long-term senator has likely had an intimate relationship with heavy drinking. But I was referring to dementia in its early stages. :)
Diverse and Conquer.
“There is another class of coloured people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of the Negro race before the public. Having learned that they are able to make a living out of their troubles, they have grown into the settled habit of advertising their wrongs — partly because they want sympathy and partly because it pays. Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs.”

The 1619 Project is not a good approach to teach US history or to reduce racism. That said, technology has given everyone the ability to see racism in real-time, something new. While we spoke of equality as an intrinsic value in America, we have been a nation divided by race. Look at any large community and you will see White neighborhoods, Black, Latino, Indian or Arab neighborhoods. I grew up when there were White jobs and Black jobs. Latino’s worked the fields. Bank loans were subject to race and redlining back then and now. White discrimination against people of color or against certain races is not something that people of color or certain races can fix. It is a White problem that must be fixed by White people. Our founding documents state that “all men are created equal.” Do we mean it or is it just a saying we use to cover our lack of equality?
Mankind has taken each other into slavery since time began. Whites were taken into slavery by Muslim Arabs and others. Many light skinned people in those countries who are Muslim now had male Christian ancestors who were killed and the women taken into slavery or concubinage. Back and forth, back and forth since time began. Black Africans sold black Africans to whites and others. Who started it all is like trying to figure out which came first, the chicken or the egg. If all whites disappear in this country, those left will still fight each other.
What leftist like Bob One fail to understand that we are not living in the antebellum South as he thinks we are. This CRT is an attempt by hate filled leftists to have white kids hate themselves, their families, the heritages and their respective cultures. This CRT is doing one other thing it is making some whites really tired of being accused of crimes they never committed. But people like Bob One think we are guilty by birth.
Bohemond, boy did you misread me this time. This new “history” of America is wrong and should not be taught in our schools. At the same time, we must recognize that discrimination has been rampant in much of our history, and still exists. We ought to change that, don’t you think?
No Bob One I did not misread you. Bob One for as long as I can remember I have been told how evil this country is by either by people like you, the schools and of course the media. People like you wont be happy until the country is reduced to ashes and the hammer and sickle is flying over the white house, and people’s property confiscated (especially those of European descent)
Bob One, I and many other “white” people have worked hard and tried all our lives to be fair to people of other races and will not be loaded down with false “white” guilt The Constitution does not insure “equality” but encourages equal opportunity. If some man of another race messes around with women, gets them pregnant and does not support them, it is not some “white” man’s fault who does not do those things. It is his own damn fault and those women who let him do it, especially if they know he was already married. People of other races can be just as vicious and sinful as any “white” person.
Well I must say, that back in the early 70s — we had required history classes, which were excellent in every way. But we also had specialized history classes that you could elect to take. They were very exciting for me as a curious teenager wanting to know everything. We had an elective called Anthropology, which was so amazing. We read Margaret Mead, and about her research. We had wonderful creative class discussions. Then we had a class called Black History, and got to read incredible books by Frederick Douglas, who deeply inspired me. I took a class in Asian Studies as well. My dream as a kid was to be a Renaissance woman, adept at the arts, music, shop classes, advanced literature, world history, and ancient history, including studying Latin. It was one huge academic adventure.
I often wish schools everywhere could have higher ideals for learning. When I went to college, we had a core curriculum as well, which was very good. But one thing that was true about my big ten university from 1975-1979, is that there were no women professors at all in the political science department. I took classes where I was literally the only woman in the class. BUT exciting news, I was so lucky to have available early women’s studies classes, and an incredible professor named Linda Kerber, who was in the history department, but pioneered women’s studies. Maybe a lot of you don’t remember the days when women had almost zero access to law schools, or medical schools, and where no women in history were ever taught. I remember that time. My idea is we need to know everything. I continue to read widely, and the class I took called “Introduction to Oriental Art” by professor Robert Rorex was so incredible, that it inspired me to move to Japan and live there for six years. That’s what liberal arts education is about
I went to an about a 98% white high school back in the day. There were a small number of black students, and I watched as the white students harassed them, belittled them and called them names. It was the “good old days” of white football jocks and their horrifying harassment of girls and black kids. I was not a girl who was going to put up with them, and occasionally, I would yell at them to try to defend the black students. It was awful socially, because I was a nerd girls with limited social skills, but was way ahead of my time. One day, in wood shop class, a boy was really badly bullying me, and I’ll never forget the only black boy in the class stepping up, and he told the white boy to “LEAVE the sister alone.” He said it with an exaggerated hissing “ghetto” style defense, and I was stunned that just ONE BOY, one boy in the entire school stepped up. So I just wonder why people have such a problem learning about American history in all it’s strengths and failings. It’s called truth. What is this really all about? I’d like to hear stories of what everyone learned about in school that inspired them, or helped them to decide to live abroad, or learn a foreign culture, or have someone stand tall and protect you from some bullying horrifying boy? Just once I’d like to hear these stories.
My grandparents back in the day were stunned that I was taking black studies. They said it was a worthless class, but on some level, it really helped me in life. I was an ordinary white kids in school, but seeing the heroism of Frederick Douglass, and the incredible story of Malcolm X, and the teacher who was brilliant; I count myself so lucky to have had that life. I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
Audrey Lockwood, I was not the one who gave you the thumbs down, but I was not born into a white neighborhood. I was raised in a multiracial neighborhood in the 1940s – 1960’s in California. We had a decent public high school. with social studies telling us about other other ethnic groups and religions. There was crime back then but more discipline in the home which kept it at bay because there was less divorce and more mothers at home. With the Viet Nam War and the arrival of the contraceptive pill, which led to higher promiscuity in the 60’s, that all fell apart, and, I might add, in most American cities.
And Audrey Lockwood, I still live in a multiracial neighborhood, and as far as black people, I have had good black neighbors and some horrible ones. The young men in one black family used to jump fences and burglarized houses. One white woman came home from work only to find one of them in her house. They sold their home and left. The young men burglarized the houses of mixed-raced families, too, and sold drugs. We got a dog and put cacti around our fence, so we were never burglarized. That family has long gone.
Praise the Lord.!
Audrey Lockwood, I had a history teacher in college who was female. I live in a rural area and attended a state college. She said that she had been offered a job at Yale but the pay was so low she took the job in the small town in a Southern state because “you can’t eat Ivy.”
I attended colleges in a large urban area and in a small rural area. Most of my professors were female. I went to state colleges.
You definitely got a more interesting education than I did. But there were female professors. Female students were in every major although not as many in STEM classes.
That wasn’t the school’s fault. They were actively promoting that to females. And the companies that hired them were seeking females, too.
Alternative Universe.
Troll Alert.
The level of fear I am reading from supposed people of faith is saddening. Quite the contrary, learning more about the beautiful diversity of God’s creation and praising him for the many gifts we are given to learn from and deepen our faith sounds like something to celebrate. I say spread joy instead of fear; and celebrate some necessary tough conversations that will bring about the justice God wants for all.
Hey, Adolfo: Are you high?
Watch the video of the fight in the Miami International Airport that went viral today and then see if you still want to lecture us about celebrating diversity. The tough conversation that needs to be had is why 3% of the population commits 55% of the violent crime and why politicians and the media want to enable that to continue with impunity because to punish or control such behavior is now deemed racist.
Don’t generalize bad behavior onto a whole race of people.
They are not. Those are FBI stats. Multi Culti is not your friend unless you are brown or black.
America is heading for a race war. Democrats are fanning the flames. Advice to everyone: get out of dense urban areas. Get out of high minority locales. Do not travel to those places. You don’t know when the war will erupt and engulf you. Move to rural, middle America where the urban decay and race baiting hasn’t affected the way people treat and regard each other.
I agree with Kanye West. There is only one race-the human race.
I identify as human.
Anti-racism is a good thing. Everyone should be treated with respect no matter their race, ethnicity, color, People should be kind to each other.
Anti-Racism=hate whitey
