NEWS FROM THE TRENCHES
I stopped a young woman who seemed like she had been crying, she was with her mother. I asked the young girl if she had gone through an abortion. She replied no. I saw that she had some brochures in her hand, and she asked me about the place where they have ultrasounds. I told her that they would be able to help her right then and there, and all we had to do was show up. I offered to drive her or guide her there. She agreed. Meanwhile the other counselors called COLFS (Culture of Life Family Services) to them know we would be on our way.
When we arrived, I started talking to the mother, I asked her how she felt, and I held her hand, she immediately opened up, and started to talk to me about her daughter’s life, her boyfriend and her four grandchildren. She told me that her daughter who wanted to have an abortion, had been taking contraceptive pills. She did not know how far along she was, she only knew that she was pregnant, and that when she had gone to Family Planning Associates, she went in for an abortion, but decided to come out shortly after she had been reading brochures given to her by a sidewalk counselor. They stated that the counselors had also made an impression on her.
At COLFS, the doctor saw her. She was close to six months. When we left, the mother was speaking about late-term abortions in Los Angeles, so I told them, let’s go have lunch together, so that we can calm down and talk about it. They accepted. I shared the ultrasound pictures the daughter gave me with the mother, and I saw her face change. They both became more relaxed, and opened up further about their situation.
The girl was scared about losing her job. I told her that she was not alone, that she had several prayer warriors willing to pray for her, and that with the help of COLFS we would do our best to help her out.
Sunday, I received a text saying, she was happy to choose life, and she had accepted the baby no matter what. I spoke today with her mother, we made an appointment for Thursday at COLFS, and another one with her OBGYN on Wednesday.
She has nothing to wear, her pants don’t fit anymore, and she needs new or used maternity clothes to wear. If anyone is willing to help, let me know. She has four kids.
I have a new phone number, see below.
God bless her, and the good God who inspires us, and puts us in the right place at the right time.
Thank you…
Thank God for people like Carolina who stand up for their belief in the sanctity of human life! My prayers, rosaries and masses during October will be said for the work of Culture of Life Family Services.
Approximately what size clothing does she wear, and approximately how tall?
It seems California Catholic has not got the memo from the “pope”. What is this obsession with Abortion? Get over it, is the message from ‘on high’
I ask you “Whatever happened to our beautiful Catholic Faith?”
Carolina was doing exactly what Pope Francis said to do. The small minded obsession approach would be to lambaste the poor girl. Carolina approached her with love and that’s the message this young mother needed. She saw Christ’s mercy in the sidewalk counselors and chose life. Keep up the good work!
By the way Caroline, God Bless you for the good work you do. My previous letter omitted my admiration for you.
Lets be Charitable towards the Vicar of Christ.
In so many ways, Carolina is a living saint. God bless her in her counseling and all the other things she does for the unborn babies and the mothers. And these people, Carolina and her confreres, are the real heroes of the 20th and 21st centuries. They SAVE LIVES! Lives that are unrepeatable, will never come this way again. I’ll say Hail Maries and Litanies for her and all the others who put their convictions re the sanctity of life on the line and do the heavy lifting of pro-life. GOD BLESS, Markrite
