Did someone say “Agnus Dei?” That sounds like that dangerous language: Latin.

Norm, Thanks for the laugh. No paper bag needed here. Respiration and pulse are normal. I don’t attend the TLM, but I think I could and it wouldn’t raise my blood pressure. “At least for the time being!”

At least they don’t hang the gay pride flag on the ambo as they are doing right now at Friday’s Mass at the Los Angeles Religious Education Congress. Don’t believe me? Watch the video: the gay pride flag is hanging from the ambo at Mass. Archbishop Gomez should be ashamed.

I wonder if sometimes we don’t understand that the Mass, faith, and religion aren’t the same thing. The downfall in attendance that started back in the 50s was the reason for V II. The bishops struggled with ways to stem the tide. Alas, to no avail. On the other hand, Joel Osteen’s church has an average weekly attendance of 45,000 believers. They may not have the Mass, but they are believers in Christ….
Wondering ‘Stockton and Oakland return to kneeling after Agnus Dei’ 2024/02/17

Joel Osteen’s church isn’t a church. It’s a Jesus club for secularists who want to do some religion on the side as a lifestyle extra.

If you think Joel Osteen is preaching the Word of God, you need to learn more about him. He is preaching the prosperity gospel.

Bleah! The 1998 texts are banal, insipid, and total lacking any sense of transcendent holiness.

I know of one parish that uses the 1998 prayers illegally. St. Ann in Barrington, IL. That’s a church worth driving AWAY from.

No worries. If you look at the video, the arena during his speech was nearly empty, and those in attendance looked like they averaged 75 years in age.

Objecting to blessing a couple, as a couple, gay or straight, engaging in sex outside of marriage is not based on animus toward either of them. It’s based on compassion and truth. Sin destroys. We shouldn’t encourage people in self-harm that could lead to hell. Do we love people enough to speak the truth?

You did not understand what he said. The neo-colonialism is the US trying to force acceptance of LGBTQ rights (and abortion) as a requirement for food and economic aid.
He is standing up for the African bishops.

You have misinterpreted what Reese wrote.
Reese believes in transubstantiation.
If you read the article you linked to, you will see that.
transubstantiation ‘Father Reese calls for popular words at Mass’ 2024/02/19

Actually, re-reading it, he says that he believes in the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist, which is what I thought transubstantiation is.
He claims that he does not believe in transubstantiation because he does not believe in prime matter, substantial forms and accidents that are part of Aristotelian metaphysics. He says how Christ is made present in the Eucharist is a mystery that our minds cannot fathom.

“It is particularly distressing in our own country that the opposition to Fiducia focuses overwhelmingly on blessing those in same-sex relationships, rather than those many more men and women who are in heterosexual relationships that are not ecclesially valid.”
The statement is politically charged and it is sadly morally inaccurate. One act (heterosexual relations) is natural even if illicit. The other (homosexual relations involving sodomy or the female equivalent) is always and everywhere morally reprehensible.

I don’t get why people think this conference is a big deal. it’s just a bunch of Boomers trying to relive the 70s and sing a new church into being.

We need more liturgies like that like we need Mick Jagger cantoring the psalm.

We can be pretty sure about this. In the “silver lining” department, one of the few blessings of having ancient separated Churches is that they give us a ‘control’, or point of reference. Consider that not one of the ancient Churches that fell out of communion with Rome, even the earliest, ever ordained women. Not the Orthodox, not the Armenians, not the Copts, not the Ethiopians, nor any other ancient Church.

“Neo-colonialism.” Or, the idea that Africans are unable to realize why sodomy is evil without American influence. Never mind that it was “old colonialism” that stopped many Africans from committing wicked acts of sexual impurity. Even the Muslims, with their culture of sex slavery, divorce, and polygamy, can be somewhat credited for teaching sub-Saharan Africans not to shag dudes.

I confronted one priest who repeatedly allowed a sister to preach gospel during mass. Fake nun at the Ambo if you can believe it. The priest told me it wasn’t a homily but a reflection. Liar. She did the ‘reflection” at the ordo specified time. Did this repeatedly and I’d leave during this part. I told him I’d report him to his bishop and I did. Never heard from the bishop. Too busy with his golf tournament.

Want to see “leaving the church in droves”? Try changing the nature of Holy Orders and see what happens. It’s actually not possible, so won’t happen. But are the Anglicans flourishing after making a similar move in the late 20th century? Don’t think so . . .
Greg the Geologist ‘Fr. Gerald Murray discounts the prospect of female deacons’ 2024/02/22

You are quite simply wrong that all mortal sins are equal. They have an equal consequence — the loss of the state of grace — but they are not equal in gravity. Some mortal sins are more objectively grave than others. Fornication and sodomy are both mortal sins, but sodomy is worse because it is contra naturam.

I can’t believe the animus towards gays and fornicators that Bishop Cary is showing. Cardinal McElroy, please give Bishop Cary a call and set him straight.

After a meeting of Cardinal McElroy with his priests he told them that if anyone had any questions or interest on synodality, he would address it after the break. One priest told me that no one stayed for any comments on synods or synodality. They all left and want to get back to parish work, forming people in the faith, not synod talk.
