The following comes from a November 1 story in the National Catholic Reporter entitled “University withdraws theologian’s invitation after pressure from financial contributors.” Nowhere in the story is pressure from financial contributors explained.
The original Cal Catholic story on this subject, itself from the Cardinal Newman Society website, ran on Monday (October 29).
The University of San Diego has canceled a visiting fellowship for a British theologian less than two weeks before her scheduled arrival at the university because of pressure from financial contributors, according to a letter from the university’s president.
Tina Beattie, a professor of Catholic studies at London’s private University of Roehampton known for her work in contemporary ethical issues and Catholic understandings of feminism, received notice of the cancellation Oct. 27. She was scheduled to take residence at the university on Tuesday.
Beattie — who also serves on the board of directors of the British Catholic weekly The Tablet and is a theological adviser to the Catholic Agency For Overseas Development, the Catholic aid agency for England and Wales — announced the withdrawal of the invitation in an email to friends and other theologians Thursday.
Beattie said in an interview with NCR that cancellation of her fellowship was “symptomatic of something very new and very worrying.”
“It’s unheard of, certainly in Britain, for a theologian in my position to feel threatened by this kind of action,” Beattie said. “It’s not about me; it’s about some change in the culture of the Catholic church that we should be very, very concerned about.”
Prominent theologians in the U.S. and the UK called the university’s treatment of Beattie “an insult” and “dispiriting” and worried that it might have a chilling effect in the academic world. Several said they had written directly to university president Mary Lyons about the matter.
Calls to the University of San Diego for comment were not immediately returned Thursday.
Beattie said she was notified that her invitation to be a fellow at the university’s Frances G. Harpst Center for Catholic Thought and Culture had been withdrawn in a letter from Lyons….
In Lyons’ letter, which Beattie shared in her email, Lyons writes that Beattie publicly dissents from church teaching.
“The Center’s primary mission, consistent with those who have financially supported the Center, is to provide opportunities to engage the Catholic intellectual tradition in its diverse embodiments,” Lyons wrote.
“This would include clear and consistent presentations concerning the Church’s moral teachings, teaching with which you, as a Catholic theologian, dissent publicly. In light of the contradiction between the mission of the Center and your own public stances as a Catholic theologian, I regretfully rescind the invitation that has been extended to you.”
In the letter, Lyons offers to reimburse Beattie for travel-related expenses and says she and the university “hope to mitigate any inconvenience this decision may have created for you.”
Beattie asked Lyons to reconsider, but was told the decision was final, Beattie wrote in her email to friends….

Beattie needs to know that we don’t need to import her garbage over here. She should read the “Catechism of the Catholic Church, Second Edition” for the Year of Faith instead.
Beattie is a Catholic heretic masquerading as a theologian. Let this be a warning to all of the same ilk.
It’s interesting that she ran to the heretical rag – the National Catholic REPORTER which should not be able to call itself “Catholic” either.
Thank you to this CCD web site for reporting. And to all those who contacted the Bishop’s Office and USD.
Smell the sweet victory for Christ!!
Victory would be to fire the current people who are running USD! I am thankful though that this was cancelled and that news of this got out and I thank this website for acting quick with the news…Thank God for everyone who made a difference in stopping this.
It was the people running USD who decided to cancel the event as soon as they received the news of Beattie’s letter. It was put into motion by the USD administration before they heard from anyone protesting the seminar.
Erol why was it ever even scheduled before it was cancelled? Who first entertained the thought of having this scandalous speaker!
The scandal didn’t really arise until after it was scheduled. The excerpts provided in the previous article were taken out of context and severely twisted and misinterpreted.
I’m glad that it was cancelled but this still does not change my opinion of this University at all! The fact that they even considered her to begin with was very troubling. They only cancelled her because of the outrage…its too bad the outrage wasn’t as influential when they had that stupid drag show.
I still feel that people should not contribute to this school, it is not a real Catholic University anymore! I don’t even know if it ever was. I encourage contributors to donate to John Paul the Great University, our students there need more financial aid so they can afford to attend there and they can graduate with less of financial hardships due to student loans. Donate only to authentic Catholic Universities…Please IN Jesus I beg!
Well; Well; you like the leftist cannot find it in you to forgive and give this school a chance to redeem itself…
USD has had plenty of chances to redeem itself, but instead it digs itself deeper into the Leftist mire!
Thank you Karen….I didn’t really appreciate MKM’s comment comparing me to the leftest, such shame!
Abeca, you should check your facts. USD put the cancellation in motion before any outrage was made over the matter. If you are going to make judgements, back them up with knowledge not opinion. Also, your refusal to even consider forgiving the university for the ordeal does reflect Catholic values. As soon as Beattie released her letter supporting same-sex marriage, USD pulled their support. I don’t know what else you expected the administrators to do. They do not have foresight. Actually, the fact that USD canceled the events is drawing anger from universities across the country. Because they refuse to let Beattie speak, their integrity in the academic world has been seriously threatened. The fact the USD is holding to it’s Catholic values rather than letting ridicule and pressure from the most prestigious universities in the nation change it’s mind should say a lot. You can not ignore other’s attempts to right their wrongs just because you don’t like them. Forgiveness is the key.
“For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.” (Matthew 6:14)
Nah Erol I stand by my sentiments in regards to this fake Catholic University!
Alright, that’s your choice but remember that God sees your inability to have compassion for those who are trying to do better for themselves and will judge you for it. You are not exempt from following his laws.
Erol I have never exempted myself from anything as you have brought up in our Lord, but I can tell you that I can discern in our Lord and right now, it would be the greatest evil to not care for the ones who have been scandalized by the decisions made by this University in lacking Catholicism. You are busy trying to brain wash me with your reasoning but you lack to understand the greater harm that many of these students had to endure even without their knowledge, under the believe that they are attending a Catholic University! That is a great tragedy if you ask. I have checked the facts, I may not know those in charge personally but I do know what their leadership in running this supposedly Catholic University is doing to their formation in their faith in Christ, it is being compromised.
I’m afraid that the real judgement will come to those who felt false compassion towards those in charge and allowed them to continue in their misleading of these youth, then with those who are angered by these scandals.
Erol please watch Bishop Fulton sheen’s videos on his lessons on false compassion. There are several episodes, I’m sure they will enlighten you. God bless Fulton Sheen!
Abeca, I have watched them many times before this conversation and I do not think they apply to this situation. There is a difference between false compassion and wanting to encourage someone to continue in the right direction. It is impossible to find someone who has not made mistakes and, therefore, people should be allowed to try to redeem themselves. This is never a smooth and easy path and there will almost surely be steps backward when trying to move in the right direction. If you have never made a mistake, Abeca, then you can continue to feel this way without guilt. If not, think of how you would have reacted if everyone abandoned you when you made your mistakes and did not allow you to make things right. I have seen you make a few statements on this site without the Lord in your mind and heart but you have not been shunned for it because mistake is part of human nature. We must do everything we can to avoid it but it is bound to happen and, when it does, we must learn from our mistakes. I will pray for you Abeca in the hope that you will someday understand how to reach people and help them in their journey rather than turn them away.
I would also suggest, Abeca, that you do some research on the earliest Vatican funded universities. If possible on your next visit to the Vatican, take a look at the library. I will not tell you specifically what to look for because I think it is much more meaningful to make the discovery for yourself. I think you will learn a lot and that it will help you find your way.
MKM, this one move by USD does not redemption make! Imagine someone going into the confessional and being contrite for only one out of 50 serious sins, which they are not sorry for and which they are still intent on committing, and then think that this should earn them the right of being resolved from their sins!
I’m with Abeca on most things and this is certainly one of them! I would hope that Catholics would support this university with their prayers only. God help them!
Thank you Tracy, I agree also with you on keeping them in our prayers only…..no mula for them.
Would a truly contrite person ever say, “Bless me Father for I have sinned, it has been such and such time since my last confession and these are the very serious sins that I have committed… I would like to confess that there are many times in the past where I have been using my authority to extend invitations of certain evil influences into the lives of many University students…. and just recently I had to *regretfully* rescind my invitation to another seriously evil influence after much thoughtful consideration.
Should a contrite sinner be sad or disappointed or regretful that he or she is no longer inviting evil in?
Regret is a feeling of sadness or disappointment. Mary Lyons is actually writing that she feels sad and disappointed that she has to take back the invitation that she initially extended to this evil influence and that she had to give great thought and consideration about canceling her initial invitation. Isn’t that pretty much like saying, Dear evil influences, I regretfully have to cancel my initial invitation to you.”
Faithful Catholics always recognize who is REALLY the author of orchestrating this kind of vile attack on the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Should the President of ANY Catholic University ever publicly confess in a letter to the sulphuric author of this kind of evil influence, a written statement such as, “Lucifer, Even though I have invited in your deadly poisonous influences many other times, (Gay Pride shows, Drag Queen Shows, just to name a few) this time after much careful and thoughtful consideration, I regretfully have to rescind this particular invitation that I extended to you. Oh, and Lucifer can I at least pay you some money so you won’t be so mad at me for taking back this most recent invitation? “We are prepared to reimburse you for any travel related expenses you may have received to date to prepare for your visit to the University and hope to mitigate any inconvenience this decision may have created for you.”…..Sincerely, The President of a Catholic University.
This is another example of the great wave of diabolical disorientation that has swept over the world, including many Catholic Universities. When did these Catholics who consider themselves the beacons of higher learning start to lower their own resolve to mitigate all false doctrines and evil influences instead of groveling about mitigating the inconvenience to Lucifer’s agenda?
Look on the bright side….this was a victory for Christ, His Church and it was done by the laity….FANTASTIC!
A.C., it certainly was a true Catholic university when I graduated decades ago! First Friday Mass at Founders Chapel as a student body, full habits for the RSCJs, real Catholic courses and theology, a required philosophy minor, etc., etc. They gave in to the heresy of modernism and to the secular world. All alums should know what’s going on, especially those who contribute. USD never gets one red cent from me!
Sandy sounds like it use to be wonderful. I wonder if some that support this University Now, are somewhat pro-gay friendly? Just wondering. It’s too bad that this beautiful University is run by unfaithful folks. It speaks volumes on the way it is run because we see it’s fruit and the scandals coming out from them through the years have been very sad and heartbreaking for many of us devout Catholics!
Folks that do love real Catholic Universities please donate to John Paul the Great University in San Diego! Our students there need all the blessings they can get and so does John Paul II…I have been praying that they get the same support as St. Thomas Aquinas, so many of our students there can graduate with less debt. Please consider them in your donations. God bless you all!
Beattie and other so-called theologians need to understand that when they violate the teachings in the “Catechism of the Catholic Church, Second Edition” they may no longer have a job.
False teachers are not wanted or needed.
Thank God for the Magisterium giving all of us the CCC.
Truth with triumph.
Amen! Margarite, and thank you to the contributors who were going to remove their donations. They need to threaten the loss of their donations about a few other things going on there too.
I’m pretty sure “Theologian” is defined as an expert in the study of religious faith, practice, and experience; especially : the study of God and of God’s relation to the world.
Does not say anything about not being able to disagree with the catholic church. in fact a theologian could be atheist, buddhist, or whatever they like. Theology and the study of god and his relationship to humanity is not exclusive to Catholicism but is open and inherent in all humans.
Let her teach what she wants as a theologian and professor.
this issue should not be worth your passionate concern….place that passion in more important social justice problems like “feeding the hungry, shelter the OPPRESSED, clothe the naked, care for the sick, protect the orphan”!!! -book of Isaiah
Regardless of whether Mary Lyons’ decision was based on Beattie’s public dissent and denunciation of Catholic teaching, or financial pressure from donors, the decision was the right one, and one for which I am sure she reasonably expects a lot of whining, criticism and pushback. All the same, it was the right decision. Teaching blasphemy is widespread at both Catholic and other colleges and universities; indeed, it is one of the many dangers parents face when sending their children to college. Anyone who halts it is to be admired for so doing, no matter what the motivation. Beattie’s response was openly petty and pouty, not to mention huffy and insulting, as befits someone who promotes evil in Catholic settings.
I for one appriciate Mrs. Lyons decision to site decent from Catholic teaching as one of the reasons the invite was withdrawn; its time someone put Catholic thought police in some of these universities.
Perhaps the theologians in USD need to sign document saying they will not decent from Church teaching in their classrooms. It would be a start.
I for one do not appreciate your comments here MKM
Lyons was likely told that a USD president would be cancelling Beattie, and it could be her. Betcha Lyons then hit her panic button immediately.
Very likely,Very likely,JLS! The Beattie woman had been cancelled in Bristol Eng. and it didnt cause much of a stink, but when it comes to losing $$$ from fat American school speaking fees this lying jade, an atheistic ‘theologian’ posing as some sort of authority, must be really in a pucker. She’s just the sort of woman that led to witch trials in the first place. What I would truly love to see is both of these feminazis having Damacas road conversions to show the world that God loves even such as these and that we do too! It saddens me to see so many going the way of the world and that they are able to take so many souls down with them!
Actually, you are both wrong. Please do yourselves a favor and gather knowledge before making assumptions.
I certainly don’t agree with any form of ‘thought police’. In Catholic parlence our conscience is our guide providing it is well-formed. Well formed means in communion with the teachings of the Church else it is mal-formed.
However I agree that more work needs to be done to assure that professors and theologians are teaching in the classroom authentic Catholic doctrine…..period.
MKM, have you ever pondered how many students with a theology degree from USD and are now working as DRE’s for our diocese and parishes?
You are right that all theology teachers should take an oath upholding Catholic dogma, but you may not want to use the term “Catholic thought police”. Doesn’t this put the Catholic Church on par with the “State”. You should never compare Jesus’ kingdom with the state.
she does not PROMOTE evil. do you understand the weight and meaning of what words you choose? The conclusions many people have made upon the out of context quotations she made have been illogical and unfounded. She’s a catholic who supports civil unions of homosexuals. This is not evil. You may have qualms with supporting Sacramental union but she has not made such a statement.
this issue should not be worth your passionate concern….place that passion in more important social justice problems like “feeding the hungry, shelter the OPPRESSED, clothe the naked, care for the sick, protect the orphan’!!!!
Praise God and His Mother for that!
Re.: ” “It’s not about me; it’s about some change in the culture of the Catholic church that we should be very, very concerned about.”, yes you should be concerned because the real Catholic World is beggining to Fight Back!
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
Kenneth M. Fisher
Its about her; after all she is teaching her own stuff and not church stuff.
Work as if everything depended on you, and pray as if everything depended on God. I believe that faithful Catholics have done this, and now the heretical and sacriligious cenference will not be delivered.
Finally – a university that will stand up for Catholic doctrine. Why would any Catholic institution hire a dissenting theologian? A big thank you to the donors who prevented this scandal to students! Would that principle guided the decision instead of money, but there seems to be a short supply of that on most Catholic campuses these days.
Thank heavens. Money talks, but I hope some of the staff at the university have come to their senses. Our young people need to be fed the truth and become holier, not corrupt, which is what this visit may have done!
What a sad day this is when “theologians” and anti-catholics such as this poor misguided woman, feel threatened by what every Catholic organization should be doing: stop the evil one from entering into the schools, etc. to spread his errors and lies. Chilling effect, amazing! Let us hope that it puts a deep freeze on these type of ‘catholics’ in order to save their souls, of which, they seem not to care about. When they approach Jesus after they take their last breath, His Words to them will have more than a chilling effect, it will be the final good-bye from Heaven and hello into the gates of hell. +JMJ+
Thank you Ms. Lyons, for taking a stand for our beloved Church. It took courage to do and may God bless you. We must continue to pray for the Univ.of SanDiego and be encouragers rather than denigrators. Whenever a delicate tendril of faithfulness begins to appear on the vine of our Lord, we must nurture it and protect it from harsh winds.
Dana,
Ms. Lyons is not courageous, she is just responding to the economic pressure placed on her by the Universities donors. That is not courageous. Remember the the GLBT scandals she allowed?
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
Kenneth M. Fisher
Dana the harm has been done years ago, this school has produced much scandal in the past and currently too, they lack Catholicity! People stop being fooled, as long as this woman is in charge don’t expect better, the drag show went on not too long ago, even their homosexual classes. WAKE UP!
Yes wake up….you let your guard down to sleep and the enemy will sneak in once again..
PS. Why don’t you put Ms. Lyons on your prayer list?
Dana I did alongside with the thousands of prayers we already pray for but without the actions of folks, well how can anyone gain graces from our prayers if hearts aren’t moved to embrace graces.
Maybe God help this woman with His graces but in the meantime we must find a replacement that will truly help this University be faithful in it’s mission in Christ. To correct the error they have caused and the scandalizing of the students with it’s lack of true Catholicity and faithfulness to the faith….the harm is done, the harm is harder to correct.
Well, I am always open to the possibility of the conversion of the sinner…being a sinner myself makes me able to empathize with those that aren’t aware that what they do is hurting our Lord. I am putting the Beattie woman on my prayer list. I’m sorry I didn’t do it earlier. Jesus died for her as well.
This has nothing to do with the conversion of the sinner, which I am for, but this has to do with someone or some few who are in charge and who are scandalizing the minds of very highly influenced young minds…….we are to pray for the conversion of all sinners, which includes us but we are not to neglect the care of the ones who are scandalized….caring for them should be our priority!
This is worth repeating “this has to do with someone or some few who are in charge and who are scandalizing the minds of very highly influenced young minds…….we are to pray for the conversion of all sinners, which includes us but we are not to neglect the care of the ones who are scandalized….caring for them should be our priority!”
“It’s unheard of, certainly in Britain, for a theologian in my position to feel threatened by this kind of action,” Beattie said. “It’s not about me; it’s about some change in the culture of the Catholic church that we should be very, very concerned about. Yes little girl you should be worried, we are finally going to run your type out the Church along with the rest of corrupt filth…Pompous Brit….
Its sad day for British Catholics…
As I mentioned in response toJLS she was cancelled in Bristol Eng. and probably other places as well. She’s trying to infer Americans are religious reactionaries…the arrogant little bigot. Let’s pray for her conversion and a heap of coals on her head.
Well done people, well done lets turn our sights on the clergy as well
Why is this a problem? In fact, Catholic intellectual tradition has eroded in the past 50-years (since the you-know-what event). Reason has historically been used to explain and advance the Faith. Instead — and always in the names of “intellectual and academic freedom” — the modern version of reason is used to advance destructive principles and life styles; destructive for purposes of salvation, and for living even a happy life. Note that few of the “dis-invited” profess anything affirming, or consistent with established Catholic thought. The planned talks are all about further destruction (and it is always “deserved”) to the institutional Church, the “fairy tale” narrations of the Bible (“who could ever really believe this stuff!”), the freedom and moral equivalency of all manner of sexual expression, the need for women to be in control, and all of that. Ms. Beattie’s lectures would mean virtually nothing to the intellectual stew of the University, except to give scandal to a “Catholic” institution. It is good that she was dis-invited. Now, with the growing acceptance of the return of Tradition to mainstream Catholicism, perhaps there will also be a re-flowering of true Catholic thought, and how the very and only institution that God established on this earth is to act in the society of mankind. Dangerous and heady stuff, to be sure; if left to its logical conclusion, it may re-introduce a form of Catholic monarchy (but that is a different discussion).
Bravo University of San Diego….bravo!
Thx b 2 GOD!
“Beattie said in an interview with NCR that cancellation of her fellowship was “symptomatic of something very new and very worrying.” Golly, Ms. Molly, the Catholics are starting to show some faith in their Church. How very shocking indeed!
LOUD APPLAUSE FOR CALIFORNIA CATHOLIC DAILY for exposing the dissident, well-paid “theologian.” University of San Diego got the message. How pathetic that Lynons said she did so “regretfully..”
One would think that the president of a Catholic university would have cancelled the anti-Catholic Beattie with joy!
Can we hope that the bishop asked Mary Lyons to cancel Beattie?
Please get a copy of the alleged letter from “prominent theologians” who
endorsed Beattie.
This is wonderful news! JOHN is absolutely right. LOUD APPLAUSE FOR CALIFORNIA CATHOLIC DAILY for exposing the dissident! Thank you California Catholic Daily! Rome knows how bad it is and they are waiting for the laity to speak up and they have.
“The only thing necessary for evil to flourish is for good men to do nothing.”
Mary Lyons wrote, “I hope you understand the difficulties associated with this decision, one to which I arrived with great and thoughtful consideration.”
I would like to ask Mary Lyons to envision Our Lord standing right next to her with His hand placed gently on her shoulder while she composed her letter to Tina Beattie. Our Lord could also say… Mary Lyons, Do you completely understand the difficulties associated with the Incarnation? Mary, Have you considered My great and thoughtful decision to humble Myself by taking on flesh to do My Father’s Will and My suffering the bitter cruel Passion and hanging on a Cross for three hours to Redeem all sinners, including those who have led many of My children astray?
Well written Catherine!
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
Kenneth M. Fisher
Thank you Kenneth Fisher!
Lyons’ was thoughtful after hearing from her banker.
The Bishop of San Diego may be low key; but he is extremely Orthodox in his own 70’s kind of way.
He is intorerrant of dissent from Church teaching. If you need him to take action aganist a situation, you have to write him directly, sign the letter yourself, and send the evidence, to his attention.
He reads all letters addressed to him that are signed by the sender, and believe you me, if its merited, he will take action.
MKM ya right….NOT
Hey, dude, you’ve got the touch. We could do stand up comedy and make a fortune.
My esteem for USD has gone up 100% God bless you decision.
Careful with percentages–they sneak in so much more than this. This just got caught–that’s all.
john malloy what a foolish percentage…
Well, Malloy, presumably it is still zero, since 100% of zero is still zero.
The short way to get rid of Obama Sin Laden.
Catherine: You painted a beautiful picture of our Savior….With tears in His eyes saying “I could not do more to save you”
Thank you John Malaspina for your beautiful comment. God bless you!
NEXT?
and in scotland, things get even stranger…and more vicious…
Stonewall, a gay-rights organization in Scotland, has outraged Catholics by naming Cardinal Keith O’Brien as the Bigot of the Year.
A spokesman for the Church in Scotland said that the award by Stonewall “reveals the depth of their intolerance and their willingness to attack and demean those who don’t share their views.” The Church spokesman suggested that the Scottish government should cut off the public funding that the group currently receives.
Scotland’s First Minister Alex Salmond said that public funding for Stonewall would continue, but allowed that the group was “clearly wrong to describe Scotland’s cardinal in these terms, and in any case should reflect on whether pejorative titles like this do anything to enhance their cause.”
My friend in Paisley says you can be arrested in Scotland for wearing a Crucifix and fined for offending muslims. She says it’s very anti-Christian in Scotland anymore, so being accused of being a bigot applies to ALL orthodox Catholics, really. The British Isles are such a disappointment in so many ways. They’ve become such a bunch of panty wastes and empty headed nincompoops. Disgusting really, what a once proud nation, the Dowery of Mary has become. Well, they’ll certainly learn about what bigotry really means when the muslim brotherhood mows them all down and turns Westminster Abbey into a hokey mosque with hour on hour wailing.
The Brits are primarily homosexuals. It is the way of their upper classes.
When I was in college, TIME Magazine published an article with a sentence that asstounded me and which I believe I have committed to memory accurately: Homosexuality is the English vice. I had never heard that before or since until your comment, JLS. It does explain why so many of the male representatives of the upper classes we watch on television and being played in films seem so exceedingly effete. One of the most curious film castings I’ve ever seen was the British actor who played Scarlett O’Hara’s heartthrob, Ashley Wilkes. He seemed neutered to me, as do so many Brits. Still, how can we know these things? JLS, where did you get your information, or how did you form this opinion? How could they be reproducing if your opinion is so?
Maybe a chastisement, Maryanne. It was pointed out to me. Subsequent observations tend to verify it. The English upper class is different from other Continentals and from Americans. Look at the English cousins in Canada … a jail time crime to say something against sodomites. As an empiracal power for centuries, the English rape every peoples they can. The Americans are presently somewhat under their sway, if you notice the leadership in international activities. None of the other European cultures have ever been characterized in such a way, and there is a decided difference between the crusty upper English and everyone else. They are bloodier, more cruel, and merciless than any other European culture. Nazi Germany had one primary love/hate affair and it was with the English. I suspect the profound powers in contention are the Catholic Church and Her adversaries. England was taken down long before any of the others, and more devastatingly completely also. Idol worship and adultery are the precursors to institutionalized sodomy. Look at the men in recent times who have received England’s highest awards, that of knighthood … those who promote free sex and sodomy.
Tina Beattie and her Satanic British “Catholic” conspirators against Our Lord and His Church need a very strong punishment– and to be permanently out-of-work, as so-called “theologians!!” These “theologians” are all agents of Satan!! What horrifying BLASPHEMY!! These people all need strong punishments, from the Church, British society, and from the British government! They should all be thrown out of the country!!! University of San Diego officials who originally invited evil Beattie to come, should likewise receive the strongest possible punishments, from our church!!
Those of you who have family and friends in other Countries, please provide them with a link to the following web site:
” What Catholics REALLY Believe SOURCE “.
For some strange reason both in the USA and abroad, most Bishops in literate Countries have not actively promoted the reading of the ‘Catechism of the Catholic Church, Second Edition”.
As individuals we can start our responsibility to evangelize by sharing the web site.
Blessed John Paul II wrote: “ this catechism will make a very important contribution to that work of renewing the whole life of the Church “,
and this was quoted again in Pope Benedict’s Porta Fidei.
Thanks, CCD, for the story and the follow-up. Let us pray these large financial contributors to USD (and our Bishop too) always stay faithful to the teachings of Christ and his Church.
So it boiled down to money of course, not because of inviting a heretic and pervert come to a “Roman Catholic” University!! There should be no kudos to Miss Lyons it was withdrawn because of the money factor!!!!
Thank you Janek, I am glad that you see it like it truly is, at least not everyone is fooled.
Ohhhh whoaaaa! So it boiled down to money eh? You have all the information to determine that right? Of course not….but whether or not it was money as a motivation it does show that if we lay Catholics put our foot down a lot of this kind of ‘junk theology’ can be put in file 13 where it belongs.
A lot of other Catholic colleges plead ‘educational diversity’ to ignore the input from orthodox Catholics.
Victory for Christ I say.
Man has a choice between God or money. So, Mike what’s to guess at?
i pray we see more of this at ALL the ‘Catholic’ Universities in our country!!!
She says she is concerned it might have a ‘chilling effect’ on the
academic world……..Oh my, it’s about time. This woman needs
many prayers.
Alleluia!!!
Thank you, President Lyons, for taking one small step for Catholicism.
Further good faith would be to rescind any future invitations for drag shows, gay-pride anything and contracts with those who have quietly undermined Catholic teachings in the classrooms. To do otherwise, while still publicly embracing the Catholic identity, is the epitome of hypocrisy and speaks volumes about the integrity of those in the boardroom.
thank you alumnus of USD. I appreciate that you too understand the bigger picture of how bad this school went wrong.
Ms Lyons and the board of directors ought to bring in a faithful priest to be in charge. After kicking out the unfaithful clergy on board … yeah, make them walk the plank.
Now that the visiting “professor” is gone, lets tackle the people and process that invited her in the first place. There is where the true problem lies.
Let’s remember that at all Colleges and Universities the BOARD of TRUSTEES controls what happens.
They have the power to hire and fire the President.
The Diocese Bishop has control over whether the School can call itself Catholic.
And must require that each person who teaches theology has the Mandatum.
Further – students and parents – if the “CATECHISM of the CATHOLIC CHURCH, Second Edition” is not a required student text for all freshman and/or sophomores, then the school should not be considered.
Seniors in high school should be encouraged to read the CCC prior to leaving for any College, so they will know heresy and schism when they hear it.
We don’t need to import heretical and schismatic theologians. We have enough of those in our own Country.
This may not be a done deal? More than 100 faculty members presented their president with an ultimatum: Reinstate a canceled fellowship for a theologian or face potential questioning of your capability to lead.
