The following comes from a Nov. 27 story on Reuters (U.K.)
As the Christmas season approaches in the United States, a group of non-believers in the California capital are planning to erect billboards explaining why they are atheists in hopes of bringing broader visibility to their lack of religious faith.
The 55 billboards that will soon dot the Sacramento landscape will feature pictures of local residents and slogans such as “Good without God,” and follow similar campaigns in other major U.S. cities in recent years.
“Those of us who are free from religion, who work to keep dogma out of government, science, medicine and education, have a lot to offer society,” said Annie Laurie Gaylor, co-president of the Wisconsin-based Freedom from Religion Foundation, which sponsored the ads.
The billboards set to go up in Sacramento on the day after Thanksgiving are part of the increasingly loud arguments between many deeply religious Christians whose faith has informed U.S. conservative politics for a generation, and a vocal cohort of secular, often younger voters who want to keep religion out of public life.
The foundation also plans to place a large version of the letter “A,” for atheism, in Chicago’s Daley Plaza, the site of an annual Christmas display.
The aim of the campaign is to show people who are not religious that they don’t have to hide their views in a polarized nation where atheists and agnostics often feel isolated, Gaylor said.
The Sacramento billboards show smiling capital-area residents against softly colored backgrounds, listing their names and the communities in which they live.
“Doing good is my religion,” says a sign featuring Mashariki Lawson, who identifies herself on the billboard as a “humanist.”

“Doing good is my religion”, I wonder where she gets her concept of “good” from? Margaret Sanger thought she was “doing good” by getting rid of the “unfit”. A world without God only leaves us with a world filled up with billions of gods!
Tracy that is correct. This is very sad that they do not believe but I bet you deep down they do, they fear and do not want anyone to answer to, so they choose to promote their disbelieve so they can do whatever the heck they want to do and feel good about it.
I am reminded of a book about graffiti at Ivy League universities.
Apparently, one bathroom sported the quote: “God is dead. Nietzsche.”
Just below it, a more accurate person had written: “Nietzsche is dead. God.”
God will always be God, but the poor atheists will come and go, gloomily imagining this is all there is…
Sad, really.
Thank God for the joy and richness of Catholicism!
Bill yes Praise God for His joy and richness in our beautiful Catholic faith. In order to correct this error from these atheist, we pray and offer prayers to our Lord. We worship Him and beg for His forgiveness for the unsults he receives daily. With compassion we look to these brothers and sisters who are lost today and pray for their return soon.
Why do atheists spend time, effort and money to proclaim that there is no God? Activities or ideas that I don’t believe in I simply ignore. Could it be that, instinctively, they know there is a God, but don’t want to acknowledge Him, because then they might have to obey things like the Ten Commandments?
Why did they choose Sacramento for this champaign? Who is behind the funding? George Soros?
I hope that faithful Catholics will hold public rosary rallies in front of these billboards in reparation for this great offense to God. Parents could also daily recite the Divine Praises with their children.
Please take note that atheist are not just for keeping government free of religion, but “medicine and education” as well. Soon our government will be providing the paychecks of doctors and nurses, just as it already is for the majority of teachers in this country! Doctors and nurses will be denied their right to follow their conscience and keep their jobs. Make no mistake about it, the ultimate goal of Annie Laurie Gaylor and her many cohorts is to succeed in abolishing “The Land of the Free”
Obama promised that if elected President that he would “FUNDAMENTALLY CHANGE AMERICA!!!!!!!” These billboards are helping him promote his evil agenda!
When good is relative, then evil eventually becomes good — A very sad state of affairs.

Without God what is good? In other words, if one does not believe in God, good is just someone’s personal opinion. Mass murderers think they are doing good for themselves and sometimes others. Many think like that now. Note how some scientists are saying that putting a seriously deformed child, already born, out of its “misery”, instead of helping correct his/her deformities, is just fine. The only problem with all this, besides performing murder, is, Who will be next? When they come after those children, none of us are safe. Hitler and other mass murderers did exactly that. It is a slippery slide, my friends, from abortion to mass murder.
By the way, a California couple just had identical triplets by natural means — an extreme rarity. I thank them for choosing life for ALL their children. Hopefully they are married or soon will be. God bless and protect these children and keep the mother and father healthy to care for them and each other.
I have always found atheists to be basically dishonest. I can understand an Agnostic simply claiming ignorance, for it is by Faith that we Believe…
Biut as Author Chesterton once said, an atheist is “someone who believes that absolutely everything came from absolutely nothing” – and based on that definition I have to admit II certainly lack enough ‘faith’ to be an atheist.
Here is another take to be aware of in the battle for Hearts & Minds: The Hunger Games
The ‘Hunger Games’ series of books & now movies is a Cultural phenomenon that it is important to understand, as it demonstrates an already a Shared set of concepts & terms & Images that those who will become New Voters will respond to…
There is a real controversy over how Hollyweird is representing Susan Collins written work – with the ‘Capitol City’ crowd of uber jaded hyper-poufy techno-atheistic types (think of ‘Society’ in places like the Uber-Crust of Pond Scum on Snob Hill in Frisco, jacked up with power over the rest)
– Versus the poor and downtrodden – led by now multi Millionaire Actors like Lawrence & my favorite of all –
‘Effie Trinket’ who would be as home perched atop the hills of money and pretty toys in Sodom by the Sea as any of CHINO Nancy Pelosi’s “Gucci Scarecrow” Harpy Pals & Donors.
The audience the movie is aimed at will come of age and vote rather soon – I and I say it pays to pay attention to how this one plays out in many ways.

I think what the atheists are trying to say is Merry non-Christmas.
“An atheist is a man who has no invisible means of support.” – Venerable Fulton J. Sheen
“If you do not worship God, you worship something, and nine times out of ten it will be yourself. You have a duty to worship God, not because He will be imperfect and unhappy if you do not, but because you will be imperfect and unhappy.”
― Fulton J. Sheen
Listen to the sermon preached to you by the flowers, the trees, the shrubs, the sky, and the whole world. Notice how they preach to you a sermon full of love, of praise of God, and how they invite you to glorify the sublimity of that sovereign Artist who has given them being.
St. Paul of the Cross
“To one who has faith, no explanation is necessary. To one without faith, no explanation is possible.”
–St. Thomas Aquinas
It is not the actual physical exertion that counts towards one’s progress, nor the nature of the task, but by the spirit of faith with which it is undertaken.
–Saint Francis Xavier
“Faith has to do with things that are not seen, and hope with things that are not in hand.”
–Saint Thomas Aquinas
“I believe though I do not comprehend, and I hold by faith what I cannot grasp with the mind.”
–St. Bernard
