The following comes from an Aug. 3 story in the Washington Post.
A Thai surrogate mother said Sunday that she was not angry with the Australian biological parents who left behind a baby boy born with Down syndrome, and hoped that the family would take care of the boy’s twin sister they took with them.
Pattaramon Chanbua, a 21-year-old food vendor in Thailand’s seaside town of Sri Racha, has had to take a break from her job to take care of her 7-month-old surrogate baby, named “Gammy,” who also has a congenital heart condition. The boy, with blond hair and dark brown eyes, is now being treated in a hospital for infection in his lungs.
Pattaramon said she met the Australian couple once when the babies were born and knew only that they lived in Western Australia state….
She said the agency knew about Gammy’s condition four to five months after she became pregnant but did not tell her. It wasn’t until the seventh month of her pregnancy when the doctors and the agency told her that one of the twin babies had Down syndrome and suggested that she have an abortion just for him.
Pattaramon recalled strongly rejecting the idea, believing that having the abortion would be sinful. “I asked them, ‘Are you still humans?’”

Poor little kid. At least the surrogate did not compound the immorality of the situation by having an abortion. To separate twins is considered unethical even by secular social workers and is illegal in the US. What will his sister think of her parents when she finds out (and she will eventually) that they abandoned her twin after trying to get him killed? “So, Mommy and Daddy, you only love me because I’m cute and perfect?” Holy Mother of God, pray for them all!
If the Australian woman had carried and delivered the baby the natural way, would the couple have abandoned the baby at the hospital? They are treating the baby like a “thing” they had ordered by mail that was found to be defective when it arrived at their home. How will they deal with the second baby who has a heart condition?
The main idea, thought, feeling that I got from this story; is that the surrogate Mom has already so much grace and wisdom. What does it say in the Gospel, to those that have a little, even more will be given them and to those who have not, even what little they have will be taken from them…?
Surrogate motherhood, IVF, and all similar procedures, are all immoral, and should be made ILLEGAL, worldwide! For married couples who cannot naturally conceive– they can always adopt! It is badly needed, for some agency to help this poor Thai lady, in contributing money, medical care, and all necessary help, to raise this baby properly! Bless her! The Australians should have been denied even the baby they took home! They are evil, very bad prospective parents!! What if the baby they took home, develops serious medical problems?? I think they should be prosecuted for their evils, and the child they took home, should be taken away from them, by law—and placed in a more suitable, very loving home!! And this couple should land in JAIL, for a very, very long time, and legally prohibited from ever again seeking a child, by ANY means!!
Surrogacy, IVF, cloning, etc. is wrong, period. It’s man once again trying to play God. God will not be mocked. All who are involved will be held accountable. Dear Lord protect these innocent children born from such evil practices.
This tragedy and controversy could have been avoided if the couple would have adopted. The adults never think of the children, only of their own needs: money and desire.
I read elsewhere that the “father” is a convicted child sex offender. True?
Samanthia, here is the link to the story,

“Court documents have also unearthed a total of 22 convictions recorded against Farnell on child sex offenses.”
“Farnell was sentenced to three years in jail in 1997 for molesting seven and 10-year-old girls in 1982 and 1983, the ABC reports.”
CCC: ” 2376 Techniques that entail the dissociation of husband and wife, by the intrusion of a person other than the couple (donation of sperm or ovum, surrogate uterus), are gravely immoral.
These techniques (heterologous artificial insemination and fertilization) infringe the child’s right to be born of a father and mother known to him and bound to each other by marriage. They betray the spouses’ “right to become a father and a mother only through each other.”
This is a mortal sin.
This needs to be repeated – MORTAL SIN.
This is NOT an option for Catholics.

Are your Diocese Bishop and Parish Priests teaching about this mortal sin?
Do they teach the Faith accurately and in entirety?
If not, ask them why not !
It is so easy to encourage all literate Laity to read the Bible and the “Catechism of the Catholic Church, Second Edition”.
There are no excuses.
“Are you still humans?” That is a good question. Moral individuals rightly denounce the slave trade, i.e. the buying and selling of one set of human beings for the profit, pleasure and convenience of another set of human beings. Yet, why is it that so many people are blind to the reality that the “fertility industry” is as vile and condemnable as the “slave industry”?
I find it ironic that this misguided young Thai woman is a “food vendor”. Surely she would not be surprised if any of her customers rejected some seemingly spoiled food she had for sale. In becoming a “surrogate” mother, she became a “baby vendor”. She failed to see that the children she was carrying were being treated as “commodities” even before the came into existence. If she were in the “slave” trade she would be the captain of the ship transporting human product from one location to another.
It’s getting harder & harder to read some of these stories without having a stomach-churning experience re the doubling down into further depths of depravity indulged in by those who should know better, like the “agency” that contracted for the Thai girl’s “services.” However, it did turn out well for the unaborted Down’s Syndrome baby, Tank God for that. The stats seem to show that 85-90 % of Down’s Syndromes are murdered in the womb, what a horrible commentary upon the U.S. corrupt culture. And now, the dreaded ISIS demonic hordes are upon all of us; Fox News reported on August 8th that these ISIS killing machines were incubated in the area between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, the imputed “CRADLE OF CIVILIZATION.” There’s something very creepy about ALL of these stories coming out about the ISIS phalanx; it smacks very much of the Apocalyptic St. John Bible story. I fear something very unsettling this way comes.
