The CNA article is a puff piece. Nothing about Cupich banning clergy and seminarians from praying outside abortion clinics in Spokane.
While I am encouraged that the majority voted for a proven pro-lifer, it is discouraging to think that 46% voted for the cardinal.
Please see previous CalCatholic article, ‘Progressive’ archbishop in the running to head U.S. bishops’ pro-life committee
Father maybe you can answer this ? Now that the Bishop was elected to this position can Cupich be told to advise his priests to get involved with the prolife movement, as in the past he’s told them to not ?
The USCCB, except in rare circumstances, cannot mandate anything to a local bishop. Certainly the Pro-Life Committee cannot tell the Cardinal Archbishop of Chicago to do anything. Truth be told, I don’t know that he has told the Chicago priests what he told the ones in Spokane. I know a number of Chicago priests. They don’t really hang out outside abortion clinics!
Father, “Thank You” for the reply and clarity.
Perhaps the 96 just needed the anonymous nature of the vote to do the right thing. The “seamless garment” so admired by Cardinal Cupich has been rejected and the bishops who did so in private must man up and publicly state their opposition to it.
Good; bad-committee to implement Amoris Laetitia which allows mortal sin for adulterers!
“FrMichael”, you are correct: almost one-half the bishops see no issue with electing someone as chairman who does all he can to limit public, visible, anti-abortion activities of his priests, and who seeks to “blend” that opposition into the other, crazy, and anti-Biblical and anti-Catholic, modern views on things like capital punishment, socialism, and the like.
Of even more concern are the, well, heretical views of Cardinal Cupich on the Eucharist and the availability of the Christ to enablers of child murder, sodomy, and other vile “rights” espoused by Zombie-Liberals.
THE HOLY SPIRIT AT WORK !!!
Archbishop Naumann is mentioned in this opinion piece.
