Upon the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling on Dobbs Vs. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone released the following statement,
“The arc of history is long but it bends towards justice.” Never have the words the Rev. Martin Luther King, the great prophet of human rights in the 20th century, rung more true. This historic Supreme Court decision would not have happened without fifty years of patient, loving, hard work by people of all faiths and none in diverse fields including social service, religion, law, medicine, culture, education, policy and politics.
But our work has just begun. The artificial barriers the Supreme Court created by erecting a so-called Constitutional right out of thin air have been removed. The struggle to demonstrate we can build a culture that respects every human life, including mothers in crisis pregnancies and the babies they carry, continues.
We must redouble our efforts to accompany women and couples who are facing unexpected or difficult pregnancies, as well as to offer mercy to those suffering the after-effects of the abortion experience. Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of the unborn, pray for us.”
From Archbishop Cordileone statement
Obama used the same quote.
Today is the feast day of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. I don’t think that’s a coincidence.
Nor do I.
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, make our hearts like unto thine.
It is also the feast of the birth of John the Baptist.
And right on cue Big Pro-Life is already using it to fundraise. “The fight isn’t over; the hard work continues. We need your support more than ever.”
Yawn.
oh look the baby killer is upset that they just got handed a loss that they will not recover from….
Planned Parenthood ads looking for donations are popping up my laptop screen. Prolife ads are not. Who is this “Big Prolife” you refer to?
Or, do you simply use the strategy of the Big Lie?
It worked for the Third Reich for a while.
Celebrate the Victory, Roe overturned, and on the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. God’s hand at work here.
The good archbishop is right. I was a student at Camden High School in San Jose when news hit that abortion was being imposed upon our nation by the Roe v. Wade decision and the subsequent Doe v. Bolton decision. I chose that topic in my speech and debate class. And, I’ve worked to protect babies and their mothers from the violence of abortion ever since. As we prayed on a retreat for priests and deacons last week, may there be a compassionate end to abortion. Many states already have laws limiting abortion.Tragically, California still has abortion up until birth. While this legal decision is good and important, pray even more fervently for a change of hearts. May all come to know the value of life, from conception until natural death.
And, ultimately, may all come to know the love of the sacred and merciful heart of Jesus.
We give Thee thanks and praise, O Almighty God, for all thy benefits and mercies. May the souls of all the faithful departed and all the souls of those killed in the womb rest in peace. Amen.
YAY! No more Roe! I recall well, the infamous day of the SCOTUS Roe vs. Wade decision. Abp. Sheen offered a beautiful spiritual program of spiritual adoption of unborn children. How I wish our beloved Abp. Sheen were alive today, to see Roe vs. Wade overturned! How I have missed Abp. Sheen, all these years! Very grateful for our dear Abp. Cordileone!
Ditto for me.
As Pope St. John Paul II told Archbishop Fulton Sheen in his beautiful baritone voice that he had been a good son of the Church and had spoken well of Our Lord, I have no doubt that they are both looking down from heaven on this day.
Oh, this comment of yours just brought tears to my eyes. How I would just love to see Ven. Abp. Sheen get on TV, with a fabulous show, and tons of praise for the SCOTUS victory today. How beautiful, Pope St. John Paul II embracing Ven. Abp. Fulton J. Sheen in St. Patrick’s Cathedral in NYC, telling him that he had been a good son of the Church, and had spoken well of Our Lord. And Ven. Sheen’s zuchetta fell off his head. Oh, how my heart just aches, now, to see both of them exclaim joy in this victory. We will have to wait awhile to see them in Heaven, with Christ, Our Lady, and all the Angels and Saints. They are surely beaming with joy, in Heaven, for this victory for God’s beloved unborn children.
In my comment of June 24 at, 10:23pm, the word “zucchetto” was misspelled! Instead of removing my exclamation points, as the modernist moderators often do– why not correct a spelling error? My first sentence shoukd have gone sonething like thus: “Oh, this comment of yours just brought tears to my eyes!” Modernists of the East and West Coasts, typically reject natural, humanistic feelings, embracing the cold, cynical, hardened, apathetic, passionless “hip zeitgeist” of the 20th/21st century modern age.
Looks like I have a few more misspellings, just in one sentence, in my comment of June 25th at 3:17pm! Here is a correction: “My first sentence should have gone something like this:”
Don’t worry about your misspellings. “To err is human, to brag about it is of the devil.” You are not doing the latter. I have heard presidents and congresspeople make errors in English and other languages.
Whatever one may think of Mr. Trump (and I have some serious disagreements with him and hope and pray that he does not run again), today’s ruling which allows states to again protect unborn babies would not have happened without his appointments to the Supreme Court of Justices who adhere to the Constitution (and not some political wanderings in the penumbras). And, for that, I thank him.
Every bishop who opposed Trump should resign in disgrace. Trump did more for prolife than any Catholic bishop.
And now we have Maxine Waters saying, “To hell with the Supreme Court. We will defy them.”
Shows that Democrats are totalitarians who don’t respect the rule of law. They want to impose their will through power.
All the Supreme Court did was return the matter of abortion to the states. Congress can pass a law if it wants. Why does Maxine fear that approach?
Who’s gonna be the first bishop to tell Brandon he can’t receive Communion when he starts aggressively promoting abortion?
Today would have been an opportune time to tell Judas Biden he was excommunicated.
Democrat Catholics… it’s time for you to either cease being Democrats or cease pretending to be Catholic.
When the Supreme Court rules along the limes of the prevailing cultural currents of the left (read media, entertainment industry, and the Democratic party) they are recognized as the vanguard of freedom. When they row against the current in support of the Constitution, they are evil, illegitimate, and marked for violence. Let us hope and pray that someone on the “peaceful, progressive” left sees the irony in all their vituperations and riotous acts. With the support of the the left, I fear conservative voices will be snuffed out with a vengeance not seen before in our history, and that somewhere Biden is smiling as his prospects for either himself or his replacement in 2024 have just increased exponentially. I suspect the likes of B. McElroy are also reinvigorated as they can say, “See, I told you so: Abortion divides and cannot be a preeminent issue for Catholics.” A prelate refusing Biden communion now will be regarded as adding fuel to the fire. I would expect to hear this very thing from B. McElroy and those of like mind.
” Biden is smiling as his prospects for either himself or his replacement in 2024 have just increased exponentially.” utter nonsense, in places where abortion is legal it will stay legal and where its restricted it will stay restricted. Most of the major protests are in places where abortion will stay legal, it will not cause any major change in the electorate. When the economy veers into recession as it will that will determine the election. On the bright side blue states will continue to abort red states will not and they will eventually take back power..
Planned Parenthood is already suing Utah to block a state abortion prohibition from taking effect. They are absurdly claiming Utahans need abortion care. Yes, abortion care.
Sad state of affairs when Catholic bishops have to invoke a fraud like King, especially in moments like this.

Roe v. Wade overturned: Washington Post columnist Marc Thiessen: thanks Donald Trump, hails ‘greatest pro-life president’ ‘Every pro-life conservative’ should thank Trump for Roe v. Wade being overturned
* Pray that Melania Trump can help Donald convert to the Catholic Faith.*
Well, I will say one thing. President Trump was the only candidate within recent history for the presidency who has had the fortitude to finally say in the debates for his/her candidacy exactly what an abortion does to an unborn baby, and how it can endanger a mother’s life. Now other candidates are following his lead.
