The following comes from an August 12 Catholic World News article:
The new archbishop of Tijuana, Mexico, visited the US-Mexican border on August 11, leaned on the border fence, and said, “We need to build bridges, and tear down walls.”
Archbishop Francisco Moreno Barrón also said that he hoped that US presidential candidate Donald Trump “will always have people near him who will help him make a profound reflection that would allow him to re-orient his convictions … for the benefit of the entire human community beyond the interests of one single country,” the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.
Father Patrick Murphy, who operates a shelter on the border, said that the archbishop has “worked in Michoacan, where a lot of deportees are from, and where a lot of people are coming from to ask for political asylum. He knows the reality.”
If Mexico wasn’t such a crummy, corrupt country the U.S. wouldn’t need a wall on its southern border. Do we have a wall separating us from Canada? No. Maybe the Archbishop should ask why there’s a wall on the southern border but not on the northern border and then turn his indignation toward his own country’s failures, and the failures of Central and South American nations in general. The failures are cultural and ideological in origin, and America doesn’t need nor want that in our own country because we want to remain secure, free, prosperous and sovereign. Hence the wall. It’s a good thing. Anybody who wants to come to America should follow well-defined procedures and laws that have America’s best interests as their primary aim…
Some of the bishops, like this one, are irresponsible media hounds.
Of course this is politically correct pablum, and he will be adored by the ruling leftists in the US and Mexico who don’t really care about the poor and the ordinary person: but the reality at the border, and I have seen it first-hand totally deteriorate since the Bush administration ended, is there is already anarchy and chaos here. And now, for a person who should be responsible and concerned for the lives within the grasp of the gangs and the cartels, this is a perfectly irresponsible and dangerous advocacy.
DOCTRINE of the FAITH –
CCC: ” 2241 ……. Political authorities, for the sake of the common good for which they are responsible, may make the exercise of the right to immigrate subject to various juridical conditions, especially with regard to the immigrants’ duties toward their country of adoption.
Immigrants are obliged to respect with gratitude the material and spiritual heritage of the country that receives them, to obey its laws and to assist in carrying civic burdens. ”

some time ago the mexican government spent time in profound reflection and decided that they needed to control the border with guatemala because too many people were crossing bridges and using remote rivers to get into mexico. quite a few loved mexico enough to decide to stay try to put roots down there.
Why does the Vatican have a wall around it ? Preach the word of God and not your own opinion.
The Vatican has a wall around it to keep the Pope from escaping. Same reason the Soviets built a wall around Berlin, and an Iron Curtain between the east and west.
Anonymous, the wall around the Vatican was put there to keep the Moslem invaders out.
Life Site News – Cardinal Burke: The Church ‘really should be afraid’ of Islam

I thought it was to keep out the Mexicans.
Sure bring everybody in no problem, MONEY, WELFARE, FREE HEALTH CARE, FREE EDUCATION come one come all, LOWER WAGES, this is what the LEFT AND DEMOCRAT party has always wanted the total destruction of the United States of America and you know what? Its happening before our very eyes. Oh call me a racist, bigot, homphobe, Nazi, thats what the LEFT always does and it does not work anymore folks. TRUMP 2016 IF HE LOSES AMERICA AS WE KNOW IT IS DEAD!!!
ILLEGAL (not legal) immigrants cost the American taxpayers approx. $ 94.5 BILLION dollars annually.
https://www.heritage.org/research/reports/2013/05/the-fiscal-cost-of-unlawful-immigrants-and-amnesty-to-the-us-taxpayer
The USA is no longer a prosperous nation. We are $19.4 TRILLION dollars in debt, and this does not include State or Local Government debt.
The USA does not have enough jobs for our own people.
The Marxist Leninist who sits in the Chair of Peter has utterly destroyed Christian Europe, MOST of us here knew the minute he stepped onto the loggia and became Pope we knew right then and there the Church was doomed by this Argentine Marxist Jesuit. Yes I said it because somebody has to call out this man named Bergoglio, and don’t let the Novus Ordonarians on this site call you foul names for the shall, they defend this disaster in the Church and are blinded by Vatican II and what it has done to the Holy Roman Catholic Church. Time is however on our side and Tradition and The Mass of All Times will return in triumph.
TOTALLY WRONG is Janek: What we are defending is the office of St. Peter. It is truly un-Catholic, irreverent, unholy in fact, to denigrate whoever sits on Peter’s Throne. To incite hostility and animosity against any bishop, much less the Pope, is forbidden in Canon Law (1373), in case you didn’t know. And then your hysteria goes on to denigrate Vatican II (SSPX alert!). Not only is that illogical (it’s akin to saying “Oh let’s blame the Fifth Lateran Council for making possible the crimes of the Borgias!”) but also irrelevant (as if Vat2 has anything to do with the present immigration non-policy of the US gov’t).
Folks, see how these mal-intentioned folks seek ways to denigrate unjustly the Council. This is truly…
Look at Germany, Holland, Great Britain, France, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Italy all being INVADED by MUSLIMS, only the East i.e. Poland, Czech Republic, Croatia, Serbia, Slovakia and Hungary are well aware of the implications of Islamic invasion for it was at the Gates of Vienna the the Islamic Ottoman Turks were stopped from total control of Christian Europe, now the Europeans just let them come in and taking over and not by the sword this time.
This Archbishop be working with the Mexican Government! Why do all his people want to LEAVE their country & why are they so desperate to get away most now come here illegally? Is it the drug cartel criminals they run from? Dear Archbishop, with all due respect, work on improving your own country & it’s policies & government so your people WANT to stay & help with your much needed reform ‘for all the people’. Furthermore, it is OUR country & we will finally build what we NEED, A WALL, God willing. It isn’t your business. Engage in your governments politics, & STAY the heck out of ours. We are putting America first. The ‘gravy train’ is over. Maybe you should start from within & put Mexico first?
Well stated.
Quack, heal thyself.
When the Mexican Government tears down its walls, then we can consider that. The Archbishop is thinking only one way.
The Archbishop needs to look realistically at the laws of his own country which attempt to keep people from Countries in Central and South America from illegally crossing the southern border of Mexico to illegally enter Mexico. Even Americans who want to visit Mexico for more than a few days need to get proper documentation before entering the Country. There is an old saying that good fences make good neighbors.
No country on earth can handle unlimited immigration. Of course, as we know, The United States is the dream destination of millions of would be immigrants. However, realistically, not everyone who manages to enter the United States becomes rich or famous. Right now the United States is one of the biggest debtor nations on earth. We simply cannot welcome everyone who would like to come. It takes time to arrange for housing and jobs for immigrants and our own citizens should come first. Unfortunately at this time in history a strong border wall is needed allong the border with the United States and Mexico. The Archbishop should spend his energy seeking solutions to the plight of people so they will not need to leave their own country…
Good fences DO make good neighbors. I well remember when the Nited States had an immigration policy that allowed Mexicans to work in this country and then return home. Everybody was happy and Mexico loved the influx of hard cash. Now there is chaos and only the cartels prosper. Wake up Americans!
This website is not about being Catholic, it’s about being Conservative. Those faithful Catholics who are part of the social justice movement, are applauding Bishop Barrón . You all aren’t people of God. You’re people of Trump.
Do you mean Archbishop Moreno?
“PantherMom”, you and the Obama-Clintonista-left (we may assume your alliance), don’t own social justice values, either, and in fact the beneficiaries of your ruinous government welfare system have been thoroughly laid waste under 8 years of your exalted charity.
And the vast waves of coming immigrants are going to destroy even further and divert funds away from those in your modern urban plantations: Inner city Chicago, Baltimore, Oakland, Milwaukee, Detroit, too many welfare-warehouses to name. THERE is your legacy. Wear it like an gold medal.
Newsflash, PantherMom, any knowledgeable, sincere and faithful Catholic living today will be conservative. It is not possible for a knowledgeable, sincere, faithful Catholic to support the Left; not at all.
In my book, any Catholic who identifies as a social justice warrior is immediately suspect because SJW is leftism in disguise.
Where do we buy “your book”?
If you don’t understand the social justice movement, and especially if you go out of your way to disparage it as you do, Sawyer, then you don’t understand the Church’s social teachings for the last 135 years, since at least Rerum Novarum. Wake up. The church has moved on.
I understand the social justice warrior movement thoroughly, which is why I identify it with leftist ideology.
I also understand the Church’s social doctrine thoroughly, which is why I’m conservative.
What the Church advocates and what SJW advocate are incompatible.
Just consider the principle of subsidiarity, which no SJW favors but which the Catholic Church insists upon.
The Church has not moved on, but it has wisely addressed modern social circumstances. The left has distorted and attempted to co-opt those teachings to suit its Marxist aims, and some Catholics have been duped into thinking that Catholic faith entails leftism when the very opposite is the case.
See, Sawyer, a person who is not conservative is not automatically “leftist”, “Clintonista”, “social justice warrior”. Yours is a tactic common on CCD and other conservative media: Label people who disagree with you with the most extreme monikers you can think of. Don’t actually engage in a substantive and fact-driven conversation, just label those who disagree with you with terms that paint them as a parody. It’s an intellectually dishonest line of attack and is basically a kind of lie.
Perhaps Sawyer has learned the labeling tactic from you, YFC, the master of slander, spin, and move on. Sadly, however, you are not the master teacher you perceive yourself to be. Others are not always using your tactics or following your example.
Sawyer is doing what he feels necessary with the equipment that he has been given, The Faith and the ability to discern. He’s learning as we all are…. if we allow ourselves.
That’s one lesson that you seem, as would-be-teacher, to reject. Why? Well, likely because in your quest for supposed fact based discussion you have lost sight of what “fact” actually means. You have disconnected yourself from the rock of truth which renders your remonstrations little more than empty farce.
But…
predictably and, I’ll admit, to the benefit of all, you have once again clearly demonstrated the “Don’t Let This Happen to You,” side of the discussion.
Thank you for being willing to take on the villain’s role. Nobody wants it, but then nobody does it better. Not even jon ;^)
Panthermom: Those Catholics who are part of the Social Justice movement have sadly moved toward idolizing the pretense of Social Justice to the detriment of the teachings of the Catholic Church.
That said, much as you wish to believe it so, the Catholic Church cannot move on past its own foundation in truth. So, YFC, I understand that you clamor after things like “books” to legitimize, but being published is often only a sign of pandering to what the public will pay for.
That’s sadly what has motivated many in the Church to seemingly…. move on.
Thank God for TRUMP our only hope for America!!!
Ok, let’s get rid of the wall like the Archbishop wants. If many of the Archbishop’s faithful leave Mexico and come to the USA will his diocese then go bankrupt do to few people in the pews donating to the collection basket? What will the Archbishop do then?
I’m sure all are welcome in the pews, regardless of their ability to pay. You should be ashamed of yourself to imply otherwise.
You should be ashamed of yourself for discounting the intellect that God has given His people when it comes to the requisite discerning of fruits. All may be welcome, but, increasingly, Catholic doctrine is not.
Does “Fellow Catholic have a deep-seated issue with “shame”?
Denying his own, he seems to weaponize shame against others. It is his recurring lash-back line at others.
YFC has a deep-seated issue, it would appear, with anything outside the party line being towed here on CCD. Could be his remuneration is hanging in the balance, much like the career aspirations of those with a collar who are telling themselves that if they sell out – just one more time – they will get the opportunity to really “help” people.
But “just one more time” is often the bait of the Deceiver who predictably reels them in just one crank at a time until the hapless wriggling – big one – finds himself in a basket awaiting gutting first and then the grill.
A Remittance in the Hand is Worth Two Parishioners in the Bush.
Still a disgusting implication. What is the marginal cost to a priest if 20 more people come to Communion? A quarter? A dollar?
Open wide the doors of salvation so that all may enter in!
Indeed, it is disgusting to be forced to make such an observation. But to allow the obvious corruption within the Church to go unchallenged so as to fester and scandalize more hapless sheep is more disgusting as it is aiding an abetting wolves who would make a meal of those whom Christ suffered and died to save.
The Truth shall set you free and when Truth is not allowed inside the Church that is the surest sign of God’s wrath.
What corruption are you talking about? What Truth is not allowed inside the Church?
We know you hate the Church, Ann. Please stop with your baseless accusations.
Ann M., who we are told “hates the Church” (so it must be true, who needs facts, if a loving Fellow Catholic says so), should you not also stop beating your husband? Or kicking the family dog? Perhaps also she is watering her lawn!
But, Justin, YFC has replaced the Truth which the Church is there to cleave to with the “Church” having to be cleaved to minus any truth. The truth is now subject to change, change dependent upon the whims of a new, and bolder Magisterium that believes that eating away its own foundation is the only way to lead the faithful to what? The foundation will be hollow. There will be nothing there save the, “I’m your father!!! Do what I say!”
That’s when children leave home, however sad it may be, YFC. When those in “authority” misuse their position to beat the sheep for the very real need of solid food – not just stomach filler.
But thank you for illustrating – again – the bloated sense of entitlement that leads many to believe…
… that they can legislate reality by pompous posts that convey nothing.
So God bless you and THANK YOU! You never fail to deliver, exposing corruption with your every word. No wonder you accuse others of daring to put words/thoughts into others mouths/heads. You are expert at it as it is your stock and trade ;^)
To all of the good people who read this wonderful site, keep in mind if this woman called Hillary is elected a woman who is a proven liar, cheat, and supporter of the most evil of all things abortion this country is utterly finished as we know it. ANY ROMAN CATHOLIC who votes for this evil woman is committing a great SIN and YES I fully admit I WILL vote for Mr. Trump, is he perfect of course not but I will have a good conscious by voting for him. Shame on the Roman Catholics who will vote for her and yes there will be many, and I hope they will ask God and Our Lady for forgivness for voting for this evil one.
Well said. I agree completely.
I would add that this has been decades in the making, as timid and even leftist Catholic bishops in this country have permitted the faithful to continue to be mistaken in thinking that support for the Democrat Party or Democrat politicians is compatible with ardent Catholic faith. Catechesis and preaching have been woefully deficient.
The time has come for a courageous bishop to say that it is sinful to support the Democrat Party and to begin applying canonical penalties to Democrat politicians under his jurisdiction.
Exactly right,Janek. But they are the same dummies that voted for the present traitor in the WhiteHouse. Twice! Very slow learners. The American electorate got exactly who they deserved, and will get exactly who they deserve again, if they do not wake up.
He’s a foreign cleric. Who cares what he thinks about US policy? Now if he wants to talk Salsa recipes, craft beer, or even men’s fashions, I’m all ears.
Once again, Archbishop Moreno Barron needs to work closely with the government of Mexico – and I am sure people and government. agencies in the States will help – to make Mexico land where there is no corruption and where every child is given a good education. and then all can get good jobs and then the border wall can begin to come down and Mexicans will stay home.
A WALL will help to slow:
1) ILLEGAL (not legal) immigration;
2) Sex trafficking;
3) Drug trafficking;
4) Breaking up of families.
Mike, you have summed it up very nicely. As I said in an earlier post, and as hosemonkey agreed, GOOD FENCES DO MAKE FOR GOOD NEIGHBORS.
Mr. Trump
PRO LIFE
PRO LAW INFORCEMENT
PRO GUN
PRO MILITARY
CLOSED SOUTHERN BORDERS
HALTING MUSLIM IMMIGRATION FOR THE TIME BEING
PRO BUSINESS
PRO AMERICAN
PRO ISRAEL
INCLUSIVE OF ALL AMERICANS
Hilary is against all of the above mentioned, she like “most” Democrats hate America and all that it stands for. This evil woman must never attain the highest office of our land like I said before AMERICA is OVER if she is elected, Mr. Trump is our last hope Ladies and Gentlemen.
All so very true. VOTE THEM OUT. God help us and bless Mr. Trump.
Oh come on – just remember the old adage that good fences make good neighbors. Our national borders must be protected and if it takes a wall, so be it. If you don’t like that, blame those lawbreakers – yes lawbreakers, who enter illegally each and every day.
Where is the Church’s traditional religious devotion to God? Since Vatican II, the Church has become far too involved in worldly affairs, abandoning her true mission, for Christ! It is only by carrying out Christ’s mission of saving souls, that Churchmen can help make a better world! Not by involvement in worldly politics!
Kristin, this is just what I said in my post several days ago: that good fences make good neighbors – but in the case of the southern border of the United States with Mexico a fence will not do it – only a proper wall with sensitive built in electronics to warn the border patrol of anyone trying to climb over or under the wall. The wall must be completely across the southern border, not just in a few places, as farmers and ranchers along the border often find people trooping into the United States from Mexico – some are only seeking employment
Other people coming across the southern border into the United States from Mexico are carrying drugs. Still other people who are coming across the very open and porous border are from the Middle East. Often times American ranchers and farmers find Arabic/Mexican paperback dictionaries discarded on their property. It is very easy for someone affiliated with Isis to illegally enter the United States disguised as someone from Mexico or Central America looking for work. The United States has a solemn obligation to seal the border and protect US citizens and all those legally residing in the States.
