His Excellency, the Most Reverend Timothy P. Broglio, J.C.D., Archbishop for the Military Services, USA, issued the following statement today on President Trump’s decision to disqualify transgender individuals from military service:
“Saint Pope John Paul the Second wrote that, ‘Every individual, precisely by reason of the mystery of the Word of God who was made flesh (cf. Jn 1:14), is entrusted to the maternal care of the Church.’ This care extends from the time an individual is conceived, until natural death, and every point of life in between. It is offered regardless of personal choices or conditions, because Christ offers salvation to all people.
“Earlier this week, citing a detriment to military readiness and the cost associated with gender reassignment surgeries and therapies, President Trump banned individuals who identify as transgender from serving in the military in any capacity.
“Certainly military readiness is of utmost importance to our servicemen and women who selflessly risk personal safety to defend the values and freedoms of our Nation. The President’s announcement and the prevailing response, however, fail to address the essence of the issue – the dignity of the human person.
“The dignity of the human person is rooted in the fact that people are created in the image and likeness of God – God who in the fullness of his divinity assumed humanity to redeem the world. A recent conference, titled ‘Framing a Catholic Response to Gender Ideology’ held this past May at Saint John Vianney Theological Seminary in Denver, noted that gender ideology undermines basic Christian anthropology by defining the person as a disembodied mind and the body as a mere instrument. A Catholic response to gender ideology considers multiple insights including medical, psychological, philosophical, theological, pastoral, and legal perspectives. The Church honors human dignity by drawing near in order to accompany people.
“Sexual orientation and gender identity issues reflect a rapidly increasing and incorrect societal attitude that individual behaviors in life should pursue immediate and personal choices rather than eternal truth. In extending the maternal care of the Church to the faithful of this Archdiocese, it is opportune to reaffirm that personal choices in life, whether regarding the protection of the unborn, the sanctity of marriage and the family, or the acceptance of a person’s God-created biology, should be made not solely for a penultimate reality on this earth but in anticipation of the ultimate reality of sharing in the very life of God in heaven.”

God bless Most Reverend Timothy P. Broglio. He is recommending what is best for all involved, including those who are confused about their sex and gender.
Christian Anthropology – much needed.

Currently the predominant cultural understanding of male-to-female transsexualism is that all male-to-female (MtF) transsexuals are, essentially, women trapped in men’s bodies
This understanding has little scientific basis, however, and is inconsistent with clinical observations. Ray Blanchard has shown that there are two distinct subtypes of MtF transsexuals
Members of one subtype, homosexual transsexuals, are best understood as a type of homosexual male. The other subtype, autogynephilic transsexuals, are motivated by the erotic desire to become women
The persistence of the…
Dr. Anthony Daniels (writing as Theodore Dalrymple) correctly observed that the Purpose of ‘Political Correctness’ is:
“…not to persuade or convince, nor to inform, but to humiliate; and therefore, the less it corresponded to reality the better
When people are forced to remain silent when they are being told the most obvious lies, or even worse when they are forced to repeat the lies themselves, they lose once and for all their sense of probity
To assent to obvious lies is to co-operate with evil, and in some small way to become evil oneself. One’s standing to resist anything is thus eroded, and even destroyed
A society of emasculated liars is easy to control. I think if you examine political correctness, it has the same effect and…

Indeed – when confronted by tranniez who demand you Validate their Pretend World (despite – like this Guy = Obvious Fraud), the ‘Pander or Perish’ paradigm kicks in, and those who fail to roll on their back and soil themselves with such lies – are targeted for retaliation in a particularly vicious manner. It is not enough to simply cut off social contact – rather they will target the most vulnerable including Jobs supporting Family Members and particularly Children – as Hostages to the PC Thought Police

Radical feminist attempts to divorce identity from sex put in motion a rolling revolution in marriage and family life whose latest turn is toward transgender rights
– I argue in a new report entitled “Sex, Gender, and the Origins of the Culture War” that controversies over transgender rights result from the widespread adoption of radical feminist assumptions
Radical feminists rejected the prevailing idea that social expectations about men and women’s roles (which would come to be…

In today’s culture wars, yesterday’s common sense is often tomorrow’s bigotry
How could such obvious elements of reality come into question? How could the essentials of marriage and family life—and even human life in general—become such subjects of such controversy and invective?
Radical feminists rejected the prevailing idea that social expectations about men and women’s roles (which would come to be known as “gender”) were grounded in anatomy and sex
Their critique claimed to show how those elements of womanly identity were neither necessary nor healthy, and posited a future where women would be free to define their identities…

Bishop (former Apostolic Nuncio to the Dominican Republic) Timothy P. Broglio has done an outstanding job as military ordinariate since 2007, and in fact his principal consecrator was actually P. John Paul II (also Angelo Sodano—:( bleah—and Giovanni Battista Re :) . He was appointed to his present position by BXVI and all 4 branches of the military respect him greatly.
Which makes us hope that by this clear and opposite statement to people like Cocopalmerio and Dominican Timothy Radcliffe, that he doesn’t show up as a target on someone’s screen on Vatican Hill.
I have met the good Archbishop, and he seems generally “conservative” in Catholic approach and intellect. Here, however, it is unclear what he means. He seems to say that personal choice in “gender identity” is wrong, as a matter of Catholic morality. He posits this opinion, though, in a way seeming to criticize Trump’s decision to bar transgender people from serving.
In any event, transgender people should not serve in the military. The test is not whether you can also kill the opponent. Those fine people that serve in the military need to be cohesive, and uniform: no women in combat, and no homosexuals or transgender, either. Sorry, but our record in combat was achieved with men at arms, men willing to attack on…
St. Christopher, I think the archbishop is not saying that President Trump should allow this behavior, or transitions, in the military, but that he does not agree with all the president’s reasoning. If you reread his last paragraph, I think you would find it helpful.
Not mentioned in the article, too, is that diabetics and others are not allowed in the military because they have to take shots and other treatments frequently, which interferes with their readiness for combat, It would be the same for people getting “sex change” operations.
I should have said in my last post that it seems to me that the archbishop just does not think President Trump included one of the chief reasons that transgenders should not be allowed in the military. It seems to me, though, that President Trump did not want to come at it from a religious or philosophical point of view but from a more secular readiness point of view, although both the archbishop’s and the president’s reasoning are correct.
(Part Deux) ” . . . command and to fight through to the end, perhaps of their very lives. They fought on Guadalcanal, at Midway, and at the Battle of Lepanto.
We need the best fighting forces, not the most politically expedient, or correct. President Trump was entirely correct in his actions to bar transgenders from serving.
I have a hard time understanding Broglio’s statement as supportive or not of the exclusion. But at the end of the day, what does the dignity of the person have to do with fitness for military service? All sorts of persons are excluded from the military for various reasons, age, infirmities, height, weight, deformities, etc., and behavior disorders. These people suffer no lack of “dignity,” they’re just not suitable for service.
There is something else the Archbishop might be taking into consideration in his statements. It is help for those born with rare conditions of genital abnormalities and those wounded in battle who need some type of corrective surgery. The former should not be done while in the military, whereas a person wounded in battle has the right for corrective surgery needed due to military service.

Public controversies – . Should males who identify as women have access to women’s restrooms? Which school locker room should girls who identify as boys be permitted, or required, to use? Should teachers be compelled to use a student’s preferred pronoun, or even a gender-neutral pronoun such as “ze” instead of “he” or “she”?
Alongside these questions of public concern, however, there are quieter matters of medicine and wellbeing -…
