Like Paul on the road to Damascus, Al Gore had a revelation that he could become Catholic. Not because he’s had any religious revelation, but because of Pope Francis’s concern over global warming.
“I think Pope Francis is quite an inspiring figure really,” Gore said during an event at the University of California, Berkeley. “A phenomena. I’ve been startled with the clarity of the moral force that he embodies.”
“Well I’ve said publicly in the last year, I was raised in the Southern Baptist tradition, I could become a Catholic because of this Pope,” Gore said. “He is that inspiring to me. And I know the vast majority of my Catholic friends are just thrilled to the marrow of their bones that he is providing this kind of spiritual leadership.”
Gore’s remarks come as Pope Francis is prepared to issue an encyclical on global warming. Francis is expected to come out against the burning of fossil fuels for energy and champion decarbonizing the world’s economies.
“Market forces alone, bereft of ethical values, cannot solve the intertwined crises of poverty, exclusion, and the environment,” the Vatican document read. “The move to a sustainable world will not be cost-free for all: the options we face are not ‘win-win.’”
“We should be prepared to accept a reallocation of the benefits and burdens that accompany humanity’s activities both within nations and between nations,” according to the document.
The Papacy and the United Nations have joined forces to countries to agree to a global climate treaty when delegates meet in Paris in December. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called addressing global warming “an urgent moral imperative.”
How is it that we already know for sure what the encyclical says?
And is it titled, “On Global Warming”?

Making Gore and company richer, is hardly helping the poor. Any anyone who defies Jesus who stated the poor will always be with you – is not teaching Faith or Morals.

Paul, I am no fan of Al Gore, but I don’t think he is totally wrong in his belief that we must do what we can to protect our planet. As you pointed out, our CCC states: Man must therefore respect the particular goodness of every creature, to avoid any disordered use of things which would be in contempt of the Creator and would bring disastrous consequences for human beings and their environment. “ I suspect that you read that differently than I do. What I hear in that paragraph is that, as humans, we should do nothing tht would bring about disastrous consequences for humans and their environment – we should not spew coal dust into the air to make our electricity or run our plants, we should not reduce mountains to rubble to find coal, we should not build products that cause smog, of build fires in our fireplaces in cities and some towns when air inversions will cause problems for people with breathing difficulties, or over-crowd our parks, or allow large home building projects when there is not enough water, or … The Catechism is pretty clear, we humans must protect our environment and the data, world-wide, shows that we are not doing a very good job of it.

Apparently you are not aware of zoning laws which include following adopted “Comprehensive Plans” that do not allow ANY building in sensitive areas or that do not have water available etc.

Al Gore wants to continue getting richer with his scare tactics while he continues to ride around in his private jet.
And stated he would buy carbon credits (to bypass potential global warming laws). Does this sound like someone who cares about the environment, or more like a selfish hypocrite ?
What is fake about climate change? CO2 levels are higher than they have been in tens of thousands of years. Do you deny that? Energy production pours CO2 into the atmosphere and we can calculate that the increase in atmospheric CO2 is consistent with what we have put there ourselves. Do you deny that? Do you deny that CO2 traps solar radiation and generates heat? Do you deny that? The temperature of the atmosphere and the oceans is rising. Do you deny that? The ice caps are melting. Do you deny that?
Which part of this chain of data and logic do you think is fake?
I reject the suppression of traceable warming and cooling patterns that the earth experiences by its very nature. But then the suppression of what comes naturally seems to be the agenda of many.
What is your evidence that there are “traceable warming and cooling patterns that the earth experiences by its very nature”? Where is your evidence for this? What about CO2? Are you saying that has traceable patterns too? Because it really doesn’t.
What I’m saying, YFC, is attempting to put too much emphasis on “man” in any attempt to circumnavigate nature itself – to include elevating earth and animal above that which is made in the image and likeness of God – is just another attempt to put us above what God has ordained.
The earth has experienced cooling and warming cycles before our CO2 emissions was ever a factor.
….if there is no way to know about CO2 patterns in the past, YFC, why did you just admit that there were admittedly higher concentrations of CO2 in the atmosphere during the age of the dinosaurs?

It appears to me that Francis’ global warming encyclical will be just another poorly and inappropriately labeled V2 secular priority rather than one of spiritual priorities. What do I mean by this? Think it out. Take for example Francis should be caring more about feeding the sheep’s souls spiritually to get them to heaven as opposed to being preoccupied in cooling down the earth a fraction of a degree. This is all incredibily ridiculous and not appropriate for a “catholic” pope, bishop, or priest.

For goodness sake CO2 levels were close to 20 times higher during the dinosaur age than they are now. The Dino’s didn’t survive but the planet did. Don’t get your panties in a bunch over CO2 which is of course naturally produced as a by product of vegetation. Maybe we are planting too many trees. Great NOVA program some years back had a scientist in the Southern Hemisphere near Australia or New Zealand pull a mile deep core sample from rock and another in the arctic pulled a mile deep core sample from ice. The iron filings were compared and it was found that the magnetic alignment of the filings lined up between the samples. The conclusion was that there are subtle polar shifts every so many years which result in the natural ozone hole which they now believed always exists and as a result weather changes. I don’t remember if it was hundreds or thousands of years. I’m sure the program is buried now though. Check out the website ‘ponder the maunder’ to debunk global warming hoax. Just as many scientist believe this a hoax as those who drank Al Gore’s cool aide. (The same Al Gore whose personal carbon footprint exceeds that of a thousand people. ) The real scientists just can’t get any press. And Marx and Engels, Soros, etc. are so proud of these useful idiots.

Yes, it is true that CO2 levels were higher millions of years ago. And the planet was much much hotter then too. That’s why there is oil in Alaska.
So where do you suppose the CO2 came from in the age of the dinosaur, YFC? Could be there is some factor at work that we are currently rejecting or purposefully are not looking to discover/track so as to pin the blame on people.
Since there is a record of the earth experiencing these symptoms in previous eras, eras minus huge human populations, wouldn’t the prudent thing be to forestall blaming the wrong entity and continue to search for the correct answer?

Ann Malley, the prudent thing would be to keep track of the amount of carbon that we burn, and correlate that with measured the rise of atmospheric CO2 and the CO2 dissolved in our oceans. There is a very direct correlation. There is also a direct correlation with the warming of the planet, which we can also measure, the disappearance of ice, which we can also measure.
Humans did not create the vast majority of the CO2 in our ecosystem. CO2 comes from natural sources, like animals breathing, and also from volcanoes and other natural phenomena. But we are increasing it in a measurable way.
I don’t think being a frog in a pot being brought to boil is the “prudent” thing. I don’t think it is anti-people to want them to not die…
…yes, continue studies. But do not put constraining, society altering measures into place that work against people prior to having irrefutable proof of causality.

The evidence of manmade climate change is overwhelming. Those who refuse to see it tend to be the same kinds of people who don’t believe in science at all: evolution, the cause of AIDS, the origins and persistence of homosexuality in humans and other animas, for example. Birds of a feather flock together.
Perhaps its time for all of us, myself included, to disclose our degrees in science or footnote scientist when we talk about the state of mother earth. Its possible that some of us, myself included, are stating our preferred political views or hopes and not science. If the world is warming or not, and if the climate is changing or not, or if humans are contributing to the speed of change or not is all about science, not political view points. Mea culpa.
As a professional engineer and former weather observer with the USAF, I can summarize the debate in the words of my former pastor..during a sermon, aka homily, …”Global Warming is perhaps the greatest HOAX ever..and the Climate has always changed, long before man was around”. Amy – In California your view linking ‘global warming’ to population control is considered naive; as ‘everybody’ knows it is about ensuring enough quality water for golf courses, ornamental landscaping and of course washing the gutters in Hollyweird to keep the place sparkling and hold down the smell – which is kind of like the odor of market street in Frisco, only warmer.
BTW – Anybody ever look at the map of the globe and see a place called “Greenland” – a Frozen Ice Covered place that used to actually have green forests in the time of human memory. Just Sayin – The Sun and the Core have a lot more to do with the weather than any other factors – although I do recognize certain types of Smog and the like as a particularly human addition to the mix.
Kind of like the Contrails from all the fossil fuel burning executive jets ole Horatio-AlGore uses to head out west, in search of carbon offsets no doubt.
