The following story comes from a July 20 posting on LifeSiteNews.com.
A young man praying the rosary while participating in the Crossroads Pro-Life walks across America was killed when struck by a car in Indiana early Friday morning.
Andrew Moore, 20, of California, was walking along U.S. 40 near Stilesville at 5 a.m. when the incident occurred, according to the Indianapolis Star Press. Moore died at the scene.
Crossroads, founded in 1995, has expanded to seven walks in four countries: Canada, U.S., Spain and Ireland. This year, the initiative’s most successful by far, the group hosted four walks across the U.S., all culminating in Washington, D.C. The accident occurred in the Central Walk, which began in San Francisco.
LifeSiteNews.com was unable to speak with Crossroads president Jim Nolan as of early Friday afternoon. In a Facebook post Friday, Nolan asked for prayers for Moore and his family, and said the young student was praying the rosary at the moment he was struck.
“I feel rest assured that he is with our blessed mother Mary in heaven,” wrote Nolan.
Catholic blogger Mark Shea reported that he received a message from readers asking for prayers for “the repose of the soul of our oldest son, Andrew, who was hit by a car and killed early this morning while walking in the Crossroads Walk for Life.”
The note said that Moore, a student at Thomas Aquinas College in California, was taking part in the walk both to “further the cause” of pro-life and because he was discerning a vocation to the priesthood.
“If there is any cause he would have willingly died for, defending life is it,” the note concluded, as quoted by Shea.

This young man, a student at our beloved Thomas Aquinas College, died with honor for a cause that is dear to the hearts of all faithful Catholics and Christians who care deeply about the values he exemplified. Our family extends our most sincere condolences to his family and friends, as we too know what it is like to lose a son unexpectedly. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this sad time in the life of a family that has every reason to be ever proud of their son.
this is a very sad accident that the walkers knew was part of the danger of walking for life.
we had fine young people from this group swpeak at our masses, as they do each year, and they warned us that the walk would be “dangerous,” not only spiritually, but also physically.
i pray for this young man, his family, and the pro-life cause for which he was walking — and praying.
i’m also dismayed at the media for calling him and his crossroads group “anti-abortion” over and over again, rather than “pro-life.” their concern was TRULY pro-life in the very best sense of the word.
Deus vos benedicat, walkers…
God Bless Andrew for dying for such a worthy cause. I hope the Lord covers Him with a loving embrace. God Love You.
What a sad tragedy of such a holy life cut down so young. We must all pray for his family and for the cause of all human, both already born and yet to be born. Hopefully, Crossroads organizers will keep the walkers off freeways in the future.
God is acquainted with grief. Almighty God is also lowly in Jesus Christ and understands the charitable hearts of those trying to save babies: No greater love has a man than to give up his life for his brother.
May he rest in peace. My prayers are with his family and for repose of his soul. God bless
Andrew Moore, unique, unselfish and a special defender of life! This is a heartbreaking accident. I am so sorry for the tremendous loss for his family. I will have a Mass offered for the special intention of Andrew. May God embrace and comfort his family during this very difficult time.
God bless you, the Holy Ghost led you to offer a Mass for him. You are a kind and caring soul!
Requiescat in pace , condolences and prayers to the family and friends of this fine young man, God be with you all at this most difficult time. We are all poorer for the loss of such a man, may his example remind and inspire all of us. I will remember him and his loved ones in my rosary and prayers as I am sure my fellow posters will as well.
A NEEDLESS LOSS OF A VERY SPECIAL PERSON. I ASK CROSSROADS TO CONSIDER SIMPLY WALKING IN FRONT OF ANY PLANNED PARENTHOOD ALL SUMMER. THINK OF THE LIVES THAT CAN BE SAVED. MAY ANDREW’S DEATH INSPIRE CROSSROADS TO CHANGE AND TAKE YOUNG PEOPLE OFF THESE DANGEROUS ROADS.
May Andrew Moore rest in peace with Our Lord, Our Lady and all the saints. He is a wonderful role model for our young people and a true hero. God bless him.
Yet another Martyr for Life from that Bastion of Catholic orthodoxy, Thomas Aquinas College.
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
Kenneth M. Fisher
Our dear loving Lord recognized a young soul aspiring for holiness and relieved him from a lifetime of exposure to this corrupt, hateful world.
There are no doubts as to where Andrew Moore has departed.
